Hahahahahaha.....  One step at a time David.   You only need a .22 to quell nosy neighbors?  Where I grew up a .22 was a little worse than a misquito bite.  Unless it is a .22 long.  Personally I like a 9mm because it leaves no doubt.

But then most civilised countries, like former British Colonies, do not permit the citizens to have such lethal weapons. .22 can only be owned for pest control in most of these countries.

Even handguns at shooting clubs are banned in the UK now.

Willy, we are a former British Colony too but then the Americans booted their misfits out.  As to our excuse today?  Well....  I'm not suppose to get political on this site.

DAMN!!! back to throwing darts now?

A 22/22 long is alright, good for letting them know.. leave now. 9mm (and higher) does allot of damage, allot worse then in the movies. I had both (22L & 9) next one will be a 380. Small enough to put in your pocket and strong enough that they know they'r hit.  :D

If you actually need these items to be able to live there. Then why continue to stay there at all?  Is America that good that you take these risks day to day.

There were just too many muskets about when the BRITs owned it that why we just up and left.    8)

Willy "why?" I suppose first off I always had guns since I was a kid. There are some funny stories behind that. Later on because I'm a good shot. Maybe there's a reason? but I enjoy it. These days? I guess just for protection. Even moving to anywhere you think is safe and crime free? ya never know if you will need it.

But even way back when, they started all these gun laws and regulations? Because I have them legally, an FBI file and yet I was on a small island with President Reagan. Truth is gun laws and regulations don't apply to those that get them illegally. This is where the problem is.

Among those exempt are residents "who conscientiously oppose maintaining firearms as a result of beliefs or religious doctrine." Others exempt include the physically and mentally disabled, paupers and those convicted of a felony.

Exempt means that people have the right to not follow this law.  But does it mean that if the do not apply to be exempt then a Mentally disabled or felon can still buy and own guns?  I guess Reagan would be covered by that as well.

Yep...

22 LR is only for neighbors and rabbits for the pot...... ;D ;D ;D

For Goats, wild pigs and Scotsmen I would always use the .243.

For Londoners...gotta be .45...nothing else would do it  ;D ;D ;D

Mind you, I could hit a 10 cent piece at 300 yds with the .17 MHR...what a stunning round that is !!!

Gave Ming a shooting lesson last week in the indoor range at home...used .22 LR Zimmerman. First time she had ever held a gun....terrified yet fascinated !!

Willy...I dont want to open a bag of worms here...but guns dont kill people....people kill people, with all sorts of things, including guns.

Well its been quiet here so thought I would get some action on here.  I have had just 4  emails through to me for the past 10 hours or more. (and I sent two myself!)  Not even the usually batch of spam that offers me viagra (whatever that is - I and won't RISE to ask) and the latest batch of Heineken prize winning draw results. Oh and the usual 20 - 30 from variously named doctors.  Usually get 80 - 100 spam when I wake up but nearly 4 pm and just 3 today.

(Must be something to do with wukan - check it out on google.)

Rob

A .243 is a calibre of a bullet that is 0.243 inches in diameter. It is therefore bigger (more punch) than a .22 which is the most common "garden gun". Additionally the Cartridge (the brass bit that holds the gunpowder) is longer and has much more capacity that its relative the .22 LR.

Therefore the .243 bullet comes out of the end with a mighty Bang and a phenomenal velocity (up to 3000 feet per second) This means that it has a massive impact in Ft/Lbs of energy when it hits something out to about 1 mile if you need it !!!...just right for Scotsmen who live in the heather and mountains and you cant get close to them  ;D ;D ;D

The .45 on the other hand has even more stopping power and can knock over an elephant or a Londoner..............but you need to get a bit closer because the huge recoil can put you off your aim....

For indoor practice, we use the .22 LR "Zimmer" which has no powder to push the bullet out...only the primer which makes a pop no louder than an air rifle but drives the bullet out at about 500 ft/sec. Which is good enough for accuracy over a 10 meter indoor target range.

Happy now ?? ;D ;D.....firearms 101 !!!
