Intended Destinations on China Visa
« on: September 09, 2009, 04:57:26 am »
Hi all,

I applied for a visa to visit China and I put down that I wanted to visit Guangzhou and Yichang.

However, my beloved is unable to get a train ticket to Guangzhou due to mid-Autumn mayhem, so I think I will visit Wuhan and Yichang instead. Will the authorities get uppity about this or should I not worry?

Brett,

Don't worry about anything, you can visit where ever you want in China, apart from any closed or restricted area's that i doubt you'll ever come accross. They ask that in the visa appliccation basically to see if your planning on visiting any political hot spots in China. If there were tensions in that area, you would either be refused or asked if you would consider visiting another area.

So don't worry no-one's gonna be checking where you end up visiting.... As far as i know, they neven mention on your visa any particular provinces or Cities.... they did at one time, but over the last 15/20 years that has been dropped, you can go where you want too....

Thanks David5o - that's good to hear! I guess visiting during mid-Autumn is asking for trouble, but it's a lovely time of year to visit and my beloved doesn't get much vacation time.

I am filling out my visa application and I want to know if should I put my girl as the inviter or contact in China, or should I just leave it blank?
Reason to come to China should I just check Tourist only?

Thanks for your help

My advice is to put your girl's name and ID number as the person you intend to visit, and "tourist" is perfectly acceptable.

If, in the future you decide to go again to visit her, they will grant you  a 12 month unlimited entry visa if they see that your subsequent visit is a "repeat"

Do not put down Tibet. That's the key.

I did not know the hotel where I would be staying.  I also did not have her ID number.  I only put down the cities I would be going to, and her name, phone number, and email address.  It was not a problem.

I did much the same as Martin - on my second trip I put down THEIR names, THEIR telephone numbers and THEIR email addresses.  Had to use a second piece of paper though!!!!

Just put down the hotel your staying at, your going there as a tourist, on a tourist visa.
I would never put down a ladies name, ID, or her address. I've always found the less you tell them the better....

There are very few restrictions on where you can go in China. There are hot spots from time to time where there is a bit of civil unrest going on, and a couple of political gremlins they would rather you not know too much about, like Tibet.  But apart from that you can go pretty much anywhere you want to visit....

By the way, Tibet is not totally out of the question if you want to visit, but there will be a few more questions and answers as why you want to visit Tibet!!  So best, you don't state that your profession is a journalist...haha!!

I always just put tourist and the hotel name and number as being my contact. Worked fine for the three trips and four visa's i got (don't ask about why four!)
Become the change you want today, or all your tomorrows will be like yesterday.

Ted,

I was only joking.  Ronan said don't ask so I did.  I didn't expect a reply.

Sorry guys.  Kind of sick humor today.
