Well there's a themepark based on an old Soviet aircraft carrier (Minsk World?) I'm sure the brothers would like a report about that!

I found that the old rusty aircraft carrier over priced. For a little more money Window of the World theme park is good. It offers minature replicas of many famous world landmarks. "The Mix" is a shopping mall with an indoor skating rink and theaters. Although Window of the World also has an indoor skating rink and down hill skiing slope. If you hear about seaworld, just a caution, it is only a big floating restaurant based on a boat, not dolphins and such marine life. There are also many restaurants that you can try out Chinese food. I haven't been able to figure out why that type of food is so popular there

Anyways, I hope this gives you some ideas. Also the beach nearby is okay.

Great, thanks guys.
I read with surprise that they also speak Mandarin there instead of Cantonese which is great as I'm finally making a little headway with my studies.. Nice and warm all year round too, hopefully the pollution isn't as bad as Beijing and Guangzhou.

Greetings Brothers,

While I have never been to Shenzen and so cannot offer advice on where to go or things to do I would like to say Bon Voyage to both of you and have great trips.

Also Irish dont forget those wonderful photos you like to take and share with us.

I am sure you will both have great trips.  As for me my Zhen has suggested I find work in Tianjin near Beijing so I will concentrate my efforts there.  I will be in Country to work as of Oct 26th but where exactly is still open.

Good luck brothers and hope all goes the way you want it to.

Regards,

Zhen and Brian

Brian, thats a good suggestion by Zhen
Pay for laowai in Tianjin is higher than Beijing because of the obvious appeal of Beijing to most laowai. However its also considerably cheaper to live and if you want to go to Beijing the bullet train really does take only 30 minutes station to station and you could set your watch by the departure times.

I got about 1000 pics of Tianjin , I must get round to posting some of them in the pictures section.

Hmmm, it looks for me like I might be landing in HK on the 11/20, so it would be tight but feasible. Some beers would be great, and maybe some dumplings and spuds? ^_^ I'll confirm as soon as I have my tickets booked!

Brian, thanks for your wishes! Good luck to you in Tianjin, I'm jealous hehe!

Thanks for the heads up Irish, much appreciated. Only 3 weeks till I arrive in country.  I have sent out some resumes so hopefully I can get something before I land in China but if not then I will have to figure it out once I am there.  I just hope there are no issues with coming in as a tourist and then switching to a work visa.  I only have 2 visits on my current visa and this trip will use the second one.

Regards,

Brian

Don't sweat it, from my obsessive reading on the subject this is how its done. Arrive there on tourist visa and the school will arrange the residency and work visa for you. Being Canadian you will have zero problems finding work there as an English teacher. Me, I'm telling them that Ireland is part of the UK !
