David E the one that's missing is the one not in the deck? 52 cards in a deck.

Yes Vince, you are correct...but forgive my lack of explanation !!. There will be 51 cards left AFTER you have removed one card...and you did not look to see exactly WHICH card it was. The task is to go through the remaining 51 cards and deduce which is the "mystery" card you first removed.

Hope that makes it all more clear :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:

Well, I guess you can never be an ex-Texan.  I guess I am a Georgia planted Texan.

I want to hear what the Brits have to say about Sir Francis Drake.Depending on what history book you read in the States. He is a Hero.Or a dirty lowdown murdering pirate.

So I want to hear a Englishman's opinion of him.In the beginning when the hero.Does his brave deeds.Everybody thinks it is good. After time the Hero's brave deeds are subject to scrutiny. So where Does Sir Francis Drake stand in British History.

A good example of how things get twisted in American history.George Armstrong Custer. Was a famous Indian fighter. He attached a Cheyenne and Sioux camp on the Wichita river in Oklahoma in the dead off winter. The soldiers Killed about 70 Indians and ran the rest off into the river and the snow.Or captured them. And made them March across Oklahoma in the bitter cold.No food. Not enough warm clothing. For this he was a hero.He ended up being promoted to a general.

A couple of years latter. He tried the same thing with 220 Calvary soldiers.Against probably 3000 Sioux Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians. At the little bighorn river in South Dakota.Needles to say the Indians wiped his whole command out in about 30 minutes.Custer was still  considered a brave hero.

About 60 years latter military historians started to look at Custer. And really seen what a over eager. Ego manic that he really was.The quote I remember the most from one historian was. What kind of Idiot splits his command. And attacks 3000 Indians .In broad day light with 220 men.And no heavy guns.

So how doe's your history see.Sir Francis Drake.

Custer actually was a brigade commander - thus brigadier General during the Civil war. After the war with too many Generals and no need for the big Armies he was assigned a regimental command. A Cavarly regiment is about a battalion strength so he was decomisoned as a General and became a Lieutant Colonel.

But you are right about him being an idiot. I hear that he had plans of running for public office. So one more glorious battle would be the spring board for his attempt at the Presidency. He never took any additional support troops or gattling guns because he did not want to share in the glory. Good thing his political carrier ended with a bullet not a ballot.

This walk was called 'The Trail of Tears'

As for FD he is potrayed as a hero, while playing bowls he was told that the Spaish Armada wason it's way to Enland and he still took the time to finish the game.  also whike walking along the road he took off his cape and placed it over this puddle of water so the lady woukdn't get her feet wet.

Vince,

They are Republican bashing again, but instead they are showing their stupidity.  (Hope this comment isn't considered political.  I do not affiliate with either party.  I have more integrity than that.) :icon_cheesygrin:

Rob the trail of tears is when the goverment moved the Cherokee indians out of the Carolinise. They did it 2 times the first time it wasn't to bad the second time there was no food for the animals or the indians.I don't remember the exact number  of dead after the 2 marches march but it was a huge amount.

In the Cherokee nation there was allot of mixed marraiges. With the whites.A few of my ancestores were married to a Cherokee women. So if a American tells you they are a Cherokee indian. There  is a good chance that a distant relitive married into the tribe.

The story is so over told in New Mexico. That you will get laughed out of the bar.If you tell somebody that you are Cherokee indian. Most everybody in New Mexico is related to one indian tribe or another

Sorry guys my mistake:blush:  Oh also sorry for all the bad spelling in my original post too hehe

Vince same as the British mate...  The cruelty that went on was atrocious (may be spelled wrong).

The English were known for there cruelty, you just have to look at the 'Highland Clearances' and this was part of their 'island'...:@

Maxx,

Not sure what your asking here about Sir Francis Drake.

To the Spanish (in particular) French and the Portuguese he was a determined Pirate or as they were called in those days....Privateer!! To the English he was a hero of some distinction, Navigator, sea Captain/vice Admiral, Politician...

He was also i believe, involved in the slave trade of the day, in fact it was on such a voyage (his last as a slaver) that he had his first encounter with the Spanish, and it was to be the beginning of a life long hatred for them. From that time on he would attack Spanish ships and Ports at every opportunity. In fact Queen Elizabeth 1 kept him in England for some time, to ensure he didn't rock the boat too much with the Spanish.... But when he did venture out again, he headed straight to where he knew the Spanish would be!! Looting and sinking Spanish ships in and around the Caribbean and as far down as Brazil ...lol!!

I believe that he still stands as a hero of his time in the UK. Mainly for his circumnavigation of the world, and his deeds against the Spanish armada. That's not saying that he was probably a ruthless bugger when he needed to be, but he was certainly nothing like Custer!! you could never call him and idiot or a fool!!  lol!!

So, what do you know about him, that you would find now, ..''subject to scrutiny'' ???

I can't really say that i know too much on his life's history, so i'm sure there are going to be dark areas in his life or deeds, .... after all this was the norm in those days, life was still considered relatively cheap by to-days standards....
