How to cure rising house prices?

This afternoon China have announced that when you buy a home in China you have to put up a minimum of 50% of the cost as deposit as the banks are now only able to offer 50% mortgages!

They put it up to 30 % only last week but that did not appear to slow down the sales.   What they are trying to prevent is a collapse in the 'housing bubble' that caused major problems in the Western World.

By the way, the shout mail hasn't changed in days, there are fewer threads on here, none of the older ones, very little getting

Spring time Rocky. Everybody is getting off their computer and going outside! Spending more time with their ladies on line than with us on the forum. :icon_cheesygrin:

I watched the Shanghi grand prix, missed the end because I fell asleep. It is monday noon here now. NASCAR rained out Texas race on now so I am logging off after this post. I used to race at the local track here when I was younger. I had a lot of fun doing it too. I also did the wrecker job at the track with a friend of mine. That was interesting too. I also like NHRA drag racing. I have just been given an interesting description of top fuel drag racing that I should post here.

DEFINITION OF ACCELERATION

- One top fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows of stock cars at the Daytona 500.

- It takes just 15/100ths of a second for all 6,000+ horsepower of an NHRA Top Fuel dragster engine to reach the rear wheels..

- Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1-1/2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced.

- A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster's supercharger.

- With 3,000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition.

- Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle.

- At the stoichiometric (stoichiometry: methodology and technology by which quantities of reactants and products in chemical reactions are determined) 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture of nitro methane, the flame front temperature measures 7,050 deg F.

- Nitro methane burns yellow.  The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases.

- Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass.  After halfway, the engine is dieseling from compression, plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1,400 deg F.  The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow.

- If spark plug momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half.

- In order to exceed 300 mph in 4. 5 seconds, dragsters must accelerate an average of over 4G's.  In order to reach 200 mph (well before half-track), the launch acceleration approaches 8G's.

- Dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed reading this sentence.

- Top fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light!

- Including the burnout, the engine must only survive 900 revolutions under load.

- The redline is actually quite high at 9,500 rpm.

Assuming all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked for free, and for once NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run costs an estimate $1,000.00 per second.

The current top fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.428 seconds for the quarter mile (11/12/06, Tony Schumacher, at Pomona , CA ).

The top speed record is 336.15 mph as measured over the last 66' of the run (05/25/05 Tony Schumacher, at Hebron , OH ).

Putting all of this into perspective:

You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter 'twin-turbo' powered Corvette Z06.

Over a mile up the road, a top fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start.

You run the 'Vette hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and pass the dragster at an honest 200 mph.

The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment.

The dragster launches and starts after you.

You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds, the dragster catches and passes you.

He beats you to the finish line, a quarter mile away from where you just passed him.

Think about it, from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 mph and not only caught, but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1,320 foot long race course.

Now That's ACCELERATION!
I thought this might be UP (remember this word at the end) your alley.

THIS IS GREAT... took a lot of work to put together !!!

You think English is easy ???

Read to the end . . . a new twist !

 1) The bandage was wound around the wound.

 2) The farm was used to produce produce.

 3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

 4) We must polish the Polish furniture.

 5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.

 6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.

 7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.

 8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.

 9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

10) I did not object to the object.

11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

13) They were too close to the door to close it.

14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.

15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.

16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.

17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail.

18) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.

19) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

20) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend ?

Let's face it - English is a crazy language !

There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple.

English muffins weren't invented in England or French Fries in France ..

Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.

We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly,

boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham ?

If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth ? One goose, 2 geese.

So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices ?

Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend ?

If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it ?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught?

If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?

Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane.

In what language do people  recite at a play and play at a recital ?

Ship by truck and send cargo by ship ?

Have noses that run and feet that smell ?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites ?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up

as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers and it reflects the creativity of the human race,

which, of course, is not a race at all.

That is why when the stars are out they are visible but when the lights are out they are invisible.

PS. - Why doesn't 'Buick' rhyme with 'quick' ?

You lovers of the English language might enjoy this...

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word,

and that is 'UP'.

It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP ? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ?

Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report ?

We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver; we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen.

We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car..

At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses.

To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP.

We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night.

We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP !

To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary.

In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions.

If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used.

It will take UP a lot of your time  but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more.

When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP.

When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP !

When is rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP.

When is doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP.

One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP,

so........it is time to shut UP !

Oh . . . One more thing:

What is the first thing you do in the morning & the last thing you do at night?  U-P !

On that dragster stuff, last time I went to the drags, a guy with a jet dragster whipped up on about 3 fuelers without any problem,
it was incredible.  He even let them get halfway down the track, before taking off the brakes.  Now that is acceleration!  Wonder what
the spec's were on that one .... :icon_cool:

By the way, I agree with everyone enjoying the weather and the spring.  Last weekend I launched my boat for the first time since I
bought it.  Just a look see launch to see if it leaked, engines run ok, what was needed and most important, to see if it sank...LOL
Everything went good, and I caught a sh*t load of fish...eat yer hearts out guys...lol

Rocky,

I watched those jet powered cars too! Those things are fast! I think that they use commercial jet engines. Could you imagine what they would be like with military jet engines? I will have to get the books out again but I think that the commercial jets are about 50,000 or 75,000 lbs of thrust while the military jets are around 150,000 to 250,000 lbs. (with full afterburners)

I just liked the description of the race with the Vette! I have an email about the blackbird written by a pilot just before it was retired from service. It was an interesting read. If I can find it I will post it here.

I was at a airshow in Durango Co. about 8 years ago. They had a Russian MiG race a Jet truck. The MiG won the race. But the truck wasn't far behind. You could feel the blast from the Jet truck.when it passed by.I was standing about 100 yards from the runway they were racing on.

Now if you really want to get confused I could explain the rules of Cricket.

So sitting in the pavilion you go out when its time for you to go in.   Then whilst you are in you could be out so you go back in and the the next one goes out to be in until he is out and is on his way in! So the next one stays in until the one before is out and when he is in the next one is out to be in until he is out and then when he is in the next one......... etc etc.

But it becomes interesting when you can do leg breaks and have a maiden over and end up in the gully!

Don,

In that first picture, who are you kidding?  You caught a fish with a pole?  Then why is there a box of dynamite snuggled in the corner of the boat in the second picture?  Now that is real red neck fishing.  :icon_cheesygrin:
