Shenzhen brothers
« on: July 17, 2009, 01:31:13 pm »
One of my lady friends in China (I perceive her to be my mei mei:icon_biggrin:) has a friend that just started a job in Shenzhen. It pays 2500 rmb plus 1% commission. My mei mei Nicole told me about it and said my girl would be perfect for it considering she knows English well. (It's a US company) So I mentioned the idea to Jessie and she's willing to accept the job if it's offered to her with two conditions; 1. Will the company pay for her meals? and 2. Will the apartment be provided at no cost to her? If the answer is "yes", then I'm sure she'll want to move to Shenzhen to do this job but if the answer is "no", she's not so sure it would be worth it considering rent expenses are very high in that city. My question to you Shenzhen brothers, in particularly you, Michael since you have your own place there now, how much does an apartment go for there and is it possible for Jessie to live comfortably on 2500 rmb(+ 1% commission)??

If it's affordable, Jessie and I just may move to Shenzhen. Assuming I can find a job, both our salaries combined should make life there very good in addition, we'll be able to save lots of money for the future.

Michael and anyone else able to answer these questions, I thank you in advance.

Josh, I've been meaning to get to you on this but have actually been swamped with so much work as of late. Teaching industry is exploding here right now. I have made so many contacts here and could find you work here at a half of dozen different schools. Recently a new International school called Pattison just opened a chain up in and around Shenzhen so there is tons of new opportunity available. My supervisor from one of my jobs is moving over there so she can get you in there at 10,000 rmbs starting and then 12,000 rmbs after probationary period. I think some additional money up to 4,000 rmbs for lesson planning. Drawbacks are 6 day 48 hour work week but the cover your work visa and pay for your airline tix. Money isn't what I'm making but it is a start and more than enough to live on. I was thinking about suggesting you move here just because there is more opportunity for both of you here. The economy is stronger, the air cleaner, better quality of living here. Also, the teaching job does not come with an apartment. I live in a nice apartment for 2,100 rmbs plus water and electric. It is definitely more practical living here as opposed to Guangzhou.

Dude, I'm clocking around 20,000 rmbs a month, buco bucks, life is good here.

Wow, Michael, I'm so happy for you. But how goes the soul mate hunt? I can only be so fortunate, if I could get a 10000-12000 rmb per month job there, I'd be set....correction, both Jessie and I would be set. She'd still work obviously. 12000 after prob. period and another 4000 for lesson planning.....sounds good to me :icon_biggrin: 48 hours is tough but I have worked hours like that before. I've worked 8-12 hours per day for 16 days in a row before cleaning for two movie theatres. I'm sure I can handle six 8 hour work periods. haha. It's the 10 and 12 hour shifts that will start running you ragged.

My mei mei Nicole said that once her friend starts feeling more comfortable at her new job, she'll do better with time. Nicole estimates her friend to make 10000-20000 rmb later on. If Jess could get this job and do similar sales, we'd be earning 20000 per month easily. She had an interview today but I doubt we'll get to talk tonight. I'm eager to find out how it went.

I so so soooo want to come to China before Christmas this year, Michael. My future wife is great motivation. But my damn salary is so damn low. I'm skeptical on whether or not I'll be able to save the amount needed to come to China on my own. If your ex-supervisor could hook me up with a work visa and free way there, I'd be so down for that. My only drawback is all the money I had saved has been loaned out to my roommate and friend. They got into some money troubles and I was the only one they could count on to help out. It may takes a few months to get the money back so no matter what, I will still have to wait at least another three months before I can even think about moving there. Do me a favour and talk to your supervisor friend and find out some more info for me or give her/him my email address so I can talk directly. Thanks for the info and advice. I'll pass it on to Jessie next time I see her.

Time for bed. See you Michael and everyone.

Well there are not many jobs with pay like that anywhere in China.

In fact there are not many in UK that pay that sort of money.

Yes and I am thinking RMB - thats 20,000 rmb a week - a medical doctor in China with 18 years service would have to work for three months to earn 20,000 rmb.

In the UK very few people are earning 100,000 pounds a year other that the bankings who put the world in financial turmoil as they have.

I have a middle class lifestyle in China and my monthly income is about 15,000 rmb a month.

I think you said your brother works in IT, I'm curious as to what area, project management and is he fluent in Mandarin reading and spoken?

Irish:

My brother is fully bilingual (Mandarin and English). He can read, write, speak, and understand both as a native speaker. He was raised in China and went to 1.5 years of University in China at Fudan University (ask anyone in China about Fudan University and see what they tell you) before he came to Canada. He has a Bachelors in Computer Science and an MBA from Canada. He's worked in several project management roles include Royal Bank of Canada, Tencent (which all you guys know right?), Google China nd his latest job is in Shanghai. I think his current title is CTO.

He was also involved in a startup in Shen Zhen but he left after 3 years.

I'm envious too. I can't read/write Chinese at all. I can understand and speak it. I like to move back and get a job and meet a nice Chinese gal. But hard for me.
