UK China Visa - visaforchina.org.uk problems!
« on: September 01, 2009, 07:51:42 am »
Hi all,

Has anyone tried to use the visaforchina.org.uk Visa application service?

It is turning into a farce for me. As far as I am aware you have to type the form, not hand write it.

So I download the PDF, but you cannot edit it in Adobe Reader.

So instead I try filling out the online e-Form. I get all the way through it in IE7, then the final page is blank. I press "Back" and it's lost all my details.

B*llocks.

So I tried again in Firefox, but it doesn't submit the first page due to dodgy web programming.

I will try my home PC as it's got IE8 and the full Adobe Acrobat.

Brett I hate the game with PDF. I've tried just about everything. Printing it and scanning it in filling it out and then saving as PDF? But multi page is a big pain. There's no choice in this other then buy the program needed.

Ok - It was just that I am coming back to the UK on Tuesday 29th September for one week and when there I will renew my visa the same day under the Express service and collect on Thursday 1st October.  I expect you will have yours in hand by then but if not let me know.

I will be Adobe Acrobat hacking tonight. Do they accept handwritten applications?

I always download my copy and then complete it by hand and take it to the Chinese Visa office at Holborn.

I still have severe problems, so I am downloading different web browsers.

Are you sure about handwritten copies? Half the websites I've seen say they are OK, the other half say they are not OK. Well, that's China for you :s.
P.S. It doesn't work in Opera either. What a farce.
Pah, this is a whole load of hassle.

Did somebody say that http://www.orientalvisas.co.uk/ were good? If so I'll just use them! I live quite near to London so I can go down and knock some heads together at the weekend if they mess up!

I had big problems with this too.

Here's what worked for me in the end :-

1) Installed latest Adobe Acrobat
2) Installed Chinese simplified font pack
3) Installed Japanese font pack (no idea why this was needed but adobe acrobat program told me it was)
4) Installed dopdf (free software)

Then filled out the form and printed to a new pdf using dopdf. Saved that file to a usb stick and then printed out in work.
Become the change you want today, or all your tomorrows will be like yesterday.

For UK Guys.

Just received the following on a footnote I received from the British Consulate in Guangzhao.

'Please note that the current reference processing time for settlement visa applications submitted in South China is around 12 weeks, for non-settlement visa applications, the current reference processing time is around 20 working days.'

Looks like there is a shorter wait in the South than in the North.

This is for UK passport holders only.
