Sending to China Via DHL, Fedex
« on: February 02, 2010, 11:47:02 pm »
Just a question,

The Fraud dept at my bank has suggested that I get my branch of my bank to send the replacement debit cards to me by courier.

I can give them my address in English but not in Chinese.

Will it arrive to me if they only send it to China with an English written address?

I am trying to avoid the trip backto UK.  For no other reason than I do not want to miss the get together in GZ on the 20th or Oilers arrival in Zhongshan later that week.   Nothing to do with wanting to stay with my new wife.

(Bloody lucky the wife cannnot read English yet!!!! If I don't make the 20th then she has learned to read without telling me.  Some flowers and some grapes would be appreciated in that case.)

Willy,

As a test, my sister mailed me a regular letter to my home address in Kaiping ... in English only. Someone at the post office wrote the Chinese equivalent beside the mailing address. Any letter from Canada has to be picked up personally or signed for if delivered to your place.

The letter from Toronto took two weeks.

Regarding the courier, I'm not sure. Maybe call the Fedex hotline and inquire ???

I just courier my immigration application to my sister using "EMS" ... cost 330 RMB [ heavy weight of the photos ]. It'll take onw week to reach Toronto. The mailing address just had "English", no Chinese translation was required on my part.

Willy,
I have mailed 2 packages to 2 different cities in China from the States. Both only had the address written in English. There was no problem
with delivery.  So I guess someone at the delivery point can read English.

Yes they will arrive, my Chinese ex would send her parents parcels with English only on them (and she could write Chinese ...)

Willy, normally there is an activation process for the card, no biggie if it gets lost, at least not from a security perspective. You could also have them send it to one of their branch offices if they have one in Guangdong.

When my wallet was nicked last visit MBNA sent a replacement one via courier to Sunny's work address, got there three days later, really impressive and no problems.

I will be speaking to my bank later so may have saved myself 300 plus pounds, if so I will be standing a round in Guangzhou at teh get together.   That is standing around and waiting for someone else to pay for the drinks!!!!!! :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:

No I will pay for a round or two or four -  may even take you off to Teds favourite Ice cream parlour.

Update on Financial problem.

Just spent 35 minutes on phone to bank telephone centre in London and eventually i was put through to my own branch and without any argument they agreed to send me the new card by courier.

It may be early next week before they receive the replacement card but at least I should have it in time for the get together in GZ.

In the meantime I will be out on the streets, bowl in hand, pestering all those wealthy looking Chinese for the odd yuan or two.   Oh well, no change there then.
