dinner on sat night 2/20
« on: February 21, 2010, 02:54:03 am »
On Saturday a few of us ad i do mean a few got together for dinner in GZ. In the early afternoon i met up with Peter from South Africa and we went to a coffee shop close to his hotel. We chatted there for a couple of hours and had coffee and a bagel sandwich.

When we left to go on the other side of GZ for dinner Peter realized his translator machine had fallen out of his jacket pocket. So we left the subway station and fortunately for him the shop had secured it behind the counter for him. As usual in China you can count on a business to secure anything you might have left behind, for your return to pick it up.

We then took the subway across town and chatted and waited for my wife to show up, and Frank and his lady. We all proceded to go into the
restuarant and had dinner. Actually they had to ask us to leave as we stayed there from about 6:30 until closing chatting about everything. All
the workers wanted to go home. We had quite a bit of food and the bill
came to 131 rmb total. Including tea for 5 people.

So we walked across the street and went to Mcdonalds for coffee as it was the only thing open at that time, and proceeded to chat for a while longer. Frank and his lady then walked to the hotel which was across the street pretty close and my wife and i got a taxi for Peter and my wife told the driver were to take him as his hotel was across town. She even mentioned to the driver the fair should be no higher than 15 rmb so that he didnt take the scenic route:icon_cheesygrin:.

Overall it was a pretty good time chatting and meeting up. To bad more people didnt show up but it didnt dampen the night at all with just the 5 of us. Peter was leaving for Guilin in the morning to meet his lady from
china love.

As Rob said.  Hopefully this kind of thing will catch on and will be better attended in the future.  I am glad that each of you were able to get together.

Rocky,

Actually that doesn't look like that much food.  Remember something about chinese culture... If your guests leave hungry, you haven't done your job as host.  When I go out with guests, I make sure we order enough food for everyone.  If we have a little bit for take home, that's ok.  But never let your guests starve.
