Re-sizing Photos
« on: February 28, 2010, 09:09:02 pm »
Ok, since this has been brought up several times and with Vince's latest post, I thought I'd post how to do re-sizing with Picasa (assuming you use Picasa)

1) Locate the image you want to export and make sure it's highlighted;
2) Click on FILE - EXPORT TO FOLDER;
3) Under "Image Size" select the size you want to export to (640 or 720 are both good resolutions);
4) Click on EXPORT and wait a few moments;
5) Go to "MY DOCUMENTS" -> "MY PICTURES" -> "PICASA" and locate your folder;
6) Check the photos.  They should be the right size to post to the forum at this point.

If anyone has any specific requests for other programs, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
Ok, one more... Windows Paint...

1) Open the image in Windows Paint
2) Click on IMAGE -> STRETCH/SKEW (CTRL-W)
3) Select the percentage you want to reduce the image to (this is a bit of a challenge as different pize photos should be reduce different sizes, but if you put the percentage down to 10-20%, that should be good enough) and click OK
4) Click on FILE -> SAVE AS (unless you want to overwrite your original images... not a good idea) and pick a name and location to save as.
5) Go to where you saved the file and check it out.

This is a more difficult method of doing things, but if that's all you have...

That's google's terminology.  From what I can tell, it puts all the resized folders in a similar named folder under it's own folder (in the My Pictures section of Windows)... most likely to protect the originals... I know quite a few people who would overwrite the originals (and then call me to try to fix that little mistake)

That's assuming you remember to use the "Save as" feature. :huh: Remember the IT technician saying... People are inherently lazy... Hence why so many people don't backup their data on a regular basis... same thing applies here.

I don't think Windows Paint is very good to resize photos, just because I tried it a few times and I lost the quality.
Paint Shop Pro, Gimp or any other program can also help. There are also some url's that can help to resize but I don't have it yet in memory...
Well...
I have to resize my photos from Beijing too ^^
