Locally based dating/marriage agencies
« on: March 19, 2010, 03:06:21 am »
I am wondering if anyone here has considered using a local Chinese dating/marriage agency? I am pretty sure that they must be around in any city with a large Chinese population, and I see that some of the posters here are from places like London and Los Angeles which have large Chinese communities.

This would save the drama of having to use the Chnlove EMF system, and then having to go to China to meet someone, be under pressure to make a decision to commit to them while you are there for only a couple of weeks, then all the separation anxiety once you return home, and visa issues and uncertainty if she wants to migrate to your country. Not that I am saying that there is anything wrong with this, I admire those who have met someone worthy that they are willing to go through the whole process. But has anyone had any experience with a local agency? I am surprised this has not been mentioned at all here? I remember reading Willsbrough who met a locally based Chinese girl in the UK, but that was not through an agency though.

For me, I never really considered it because I planned to go to China anyway and wanted to travel there, but now my circumstances have changed with a  new job here and therefore I no longer have the freedom (leave) to be able to go there anytime soon. So I signed up with a local agency, and met up with the manager (a Chinese man) who I had an "interview" with, had to send photos, and he took my details. Surely I can't be the only one on this site who has tried this?

I know a good friend & former colleague in Singapore who owns an agency & runs it with his wife, but he only does brides from Hainan, and he screens both parties very carefully. In fact for agencies, he is ranked #1 on Google if you search under "Singapore Matchmaker" or something similar, so I need not say more.
Men are great thinkers coz they have 2 heads (just don't think with the wrong one!) & women are great talkers coz they have 2...:icon_cheesygrin:

I do not know where you live but you can look on blossoms.com too.  They have listings of women that live all the way around the world.  I forget how many women there are on the site that live in the US.  It seems 200-300 woman looking for men.  Some used it to chat with members at home only so they may not talk with you but most are looking for husbands. Just a thought.

Sorry guys, I meant locally based agencies that allow you to meet locally based Chinese girls in your own hometown. Which saves you from going through the difficult issues of the long distance, intercontinental relationship. I am just curious why this has not been brought up on this forum, and why people go the other route instead?

Yeah blossoms has girls in many countries - there are many filipinas working overseas, maybe the same is true of Chinese. A lot of mainland Chinese living overseas are young students though.

You could try match.com or one of the other big sites. Be careful though as scammers are moving onto these sites big time.

I am just starting to research this but Thai ladies seem a bit more open to moving overseas - so long as you have got a warm house they'll be happy!

i would tend to think the ratio of women to men would be very small as
there are yes big communities but it is mainly made up of families who
have relocated there.

Seagull, what you are talking about did the opposite to most. Checking out the local chinese dating sites is what brought me to Chnlove. Keep in mind the ladies you find on these sites may have kept some traditions but are westernized. So I think it not quite the same?

Guys, I didn't mean dating sites, I mean proper agencies run by the local Chinese community that introduce you to local Chinese ladies. I would have thought that these would be around in any major city with a large Chinese population, but I guess maybe they are not. I have joined one in my city, have my first introduction coming up this weekend. Thanks anyway. :icon_biggrin:

Seagull, I know what you meant. Maybe there in Aus. they have it but here in the states? You would have to be in that community to know about it.

The chinese women here, came here either for marriage, work, for school or were born here. An example of what I mean is if they come on a work visa and get married? They are out of here, work visa revoked. So it wouldn't be advertised as an agency would. Your on your own if wanting to meet a chinese woman. That's why most turn to the internet sites to find local women. Unless you live in that community it's not going to happen.

Singapore is one such city, and the population is 90% Chinese. There are agencies that specialize in China ladies, but now the trend has shifted towards ladies from Vietnam. As for me, why chose from the small pool of ladies here, when I can have the whole of China? Very few of them actually join a local agency. I can recognize them from a mile away, and I know where they usually hang out and work. It is far easier, and cheaper, for me to do direct approach when I see someone I might like. So does that answer your question? :icon_cheesygrin:

The Chinese Community in every country is filled with Match Makers.  The most valuable girls are the ones who already have permission to stay visa or even Green Cards. The population outside of China, and maybe Singapore, does not make this a viable as a business but it is a steady income for the unadvertised part timers that are involved.

My wife tells me here that the family of a Chinese girl who has permission to remain or even a green card in a 'Foreign Country' can expect a very huge red envelope stuffed with cash by marrying a wealthy Chinese man.

So I guess what I was talking about doesn't seem to be that common then. In my hometown there is an introduction agency that specialises in introducing men to Chinese women who have migrated to Australia (e.g. have an Australian passport), so no need to worry about visa issues or if you are being used for your citizenship. I live in a medium sized Australian city (Perth) and I thought that any city with a large Chinese population may have similar agencies, but I guess not.

Anyway I joined this agency and I was sceptical at first, but it seems like a lot of these local Chinese women have limited social lives and don't seem to interact much with the wider community, unlike say, Hong Kong women, Koreans or Vietnamese who are easier to meet. I was introduced to a nice Chinese lady from Foshan, Guangdong yesterday, and wondered why she is single, but it seems that her life revolves around working 6 days a week and hanging around with her extended family (her mother and sister also migrated here) for much of her time, so now I can understand why. So far so good with this one, but we will see how it goes. Thanks for the feedback.
