Another Earthquake hits China
« on: April 14, 2010, 04:32:40 am »
Its is Qinghai between Gansu and Tibet with Sichuan to the South.

80% plus of the town of Jiego destroyed.  Now reported as up to 90%.

At least 300 dead but rising.  1000's reported injured.

6.9 but said to be close to the ground level so more damage caused.

Yes, They were just showing it here on a morning show. What they reported was 30 dead and thousands injured and the numbers are rising?

China has been getting hit with lots of quakes recently which leads me to believe a
really big one is headed this way. do you think that maybe the govt will step in and
set up some type of building codes on new buildings. a lot of the devestation is do to
the way these buildings are put up which is sad because a lot of suffering and destruction
could otherwise be avoided.

I got a call at 7am China time this morning from my son and another at 12.30pm from my mother as all they know is I'm in West China (Chongqing) but nothing felt here, they know more about it than I do as the tv is rs.
I'd hate to see something large hit a city like this as I'm sure it would go down like a stack of cards, especially where I am on the side of a mountain in Fuling...........Glad I'm escaping this horrible company I work for tomorrow & heading back to Aus on Sunday, doubt I'll be allowed back in China as I'm leaving on a work visa without giving notice lol.

China TV has not been restricting the access to this Earthquake.   CCTV had a two hour special programme last night dealing with it as best they could in the style of Sky news or Fox news.  They even showed the pictures taken by a drone that flew overhead and the devastation is so widespread.   It is in such a remote place that heavy lifting equipment just cannot get to the town.

The problem with the homes there is that the majority are built individually by the owners with a mixture of wood and brick  with no thoughts of safety whatosever.

They reported last night that since this earthquake there has been more 100 other aftershocks!

It is on the same fault line as the one two years ago that killed so many thousands of people and is now kept as it is was left as a memorial.

ive been following this also on cctv and the remoteness has been
making it difficult in the after help that is needed there. is it just me
thinking this but doesnt it seem that for the last two years China has
been having one to many earthquakes all over the country? when before
it didnt seem as such a regular occurence as what has been happening
lately??

A sign of the times ..... not a big surprise really.

Mike O.

As Mike says it is the the sign of the times.  We are now into the period of the New 'New China'.  More things are now finding their way into the news than ever before.

The massive successful resue in the coal mine, this earthquake.  Even a couple of years ago they would not have been 'news worthy'.

Minor earthquakes in that province of China are almost monthly they say.  And they do destroy one or two houses but they soon rebuiild them on the same spot! The major problems occur when the epicentre strikes where there are large populations.  Then there are real problems like this week.

I've been watching all these earthquakes, and have plotted all the earthquakes this year that are major.  South America, North America,
China, Asia, the pacific ocean....

If you run a stringline from each one they create a circle.  Perhaps the earth is going through some serious changes, like when the
contenents split.  I have a feeling somthing major is on the horizan and we are in for it.  I have also noted they are all 6 and above
which are pretty heavy duty.

The time to get worried Rocky is when your President decides it is time to take in a visit to the space station that is orbiting the earth!!!

But here on earth my hat go off to the Chinese and the planners.

They are showing what can be done when there is an urgent need. From what I see on TV there is now about 1 doctor for ever 10  injured.  Doctors in their hudreds were taken from hosptals all over China and flown to the the nearest airfield by passenger jets full of them.  Train were loaded with ambulances and taken as close to the site as possible.  Earthquake specialist from all over China were there in a short while.  Heavy lifting equaipment took only a day to get to one of the most inaccesible places and in a spot so high that most rescuers were not only having to deal with aftershock after aftershock but also with the very thin air that is making breathing very hard for those not used to it.  Tents in their thousands were arriving there within 24 hours.

They certainly have this one planned and the plan worked extremely well.

That's because they've learned their lesson.  One thing I've got to give the chinese government credit for is that they do learn from their disasters.  Most likely there was a policy after Sichuan that put people on DR (Disaster Recovery) duty.  Pretty smart how they had people from all over the country spread out like that... Now if only we could have some of the other governments do that.
