Medical Health Coverage For Visiting Ladies
« on: June 08, 2010, 04:13:15 am »
Does anybody have information for out-of-country medical health coverage for Chinese ladies ?

We have travel insurance that will reimburse for medical emergencies when we travel ... do they have likewise when they travel ?

In the Province of Ontario, a person arriving on a Pernament Residence Visa does not have provincial coverage for the first three months. What are alternative health coverage for the lady during these first three months ?

Even if nobody has the answer for Ontario, what about other cities/provinces/states/countries ?

Hey Chong,

I'm sure travel agencies there would sell travel insurance.  Over here, it's one of the things the travel agencies push as an add on.  As for visitor's medical insurance, there's got to be some.  I just (quickly) checked and you might want to look at Manulife (http://www.coverme.com/products/travel-insurance-visitors.jsp).  I believe there's others here too.  I remember seeing a web site that provides information to new immigrants by the YMCA... On my way to work tonight, I'll copy it down and send it your way.

I don't know about Canada. But in the states you can just add them to your insurance policy threw your employer.Or You can buy them their own insurance.Which is usually allot cheaper.I keep receiving advertisements for my wife.I have ben quoted 100.00 month.to 300.00 a month. At 100.00 a month it is full coverage. But the detectable. Is sky high.At 300.00 a month the deductible is like 100.00.So you would have to look around and find a happy medium.

Maxx you can add your wife on your insurance but first she has to have a ssno.  That is what the insurance companies use to keep track of those they insure.

Of course maybe they get one when the enter the US.  I don't know.    Yet!!!!!!

Shaun Ted is right. And sorry buddy. No I didn't need a social security number to add my wife to my insurance policy. They just used my wife's visa number until.I got her a social security number.I was out of options my wife needed insurance.Right then and there. If you have to take your wife to the baby doctor. It is 250.00 a visit. All of the doctors visits combined. Are over 4,000 cash. The hospital bill for a baby is 12,000 the anesthesiologist is 1,500.The assistant to the baby doctor is 3,000.

Your wife is not eligible for Medicaid until she is in country for five years. So they will not help. The good news is Medicaid will pay the hospital bill the anesthesiologist. And the doctor assistant.Any test or extra examinations. They will not pay for.One test for anemia is 404.16 Ultrasound is 500.00

This is just a example of the medical bills you could run into.Insurance for your wife or your girlfriend is mandatory. There is a number of government run programs in the states. That will help. But they are well hidden. You usually have to know somebody who works in the system. To even hear about half of these programs.

My company told me they needed a ssno.  So I'll try the visa # when she gets here.

I have insurance coverage through my Job, but this insurance is a supplement to the provincial health insurance. I need to get medical insurance for my wife for three months until she qualifies for OHIP.

Ok, not quite what I expected, but check this site out.  It's for the YMCA of the GTA (Sorry Martin), doesn't mention medical insurance that I could see briefly, but it might help in other ways...

Thanks for that link. Good info but it covers "travellers to and from" Canada.

Martin and I are looking for OHIP/provincial-type coverage for the first three months. Our wives are here to stay., not visiting.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean to imply that your wives were "just visiting".  :D More that this might tide you over for the three months before you can get her coverage.

I don't think you'll get actual OHIP type coverage for the first three months.  I've only heard of one exception to the OHIP rules and that was when Israel and Lebannon (I think) were having it out a few years ago and we had all those Canadians who we evacuated out of there and were inelligable for OHIP (that was another mess).

Shaun , if you marry Peggy in China and apply for a K-3 Visa .. the S.S. Card and Number will come together with the Green Card .
This was in our case , no need to apply separately for the S.S. C.

Martin, Chong,

I thought there was something about this subject in Moores movie "Sicko". It was more about the US medical system but there was a little of a michigan woman that had a canadian boyfriend and she would come to canada for treatment through OHIP.

Have you checked for coverage from Green Shield? They provide supplemental coverage for me for hospitalization and other health care services. Their web site is www.greenshield.ca and they may have some information there if you want to check.
