My wife gets 1500 RMB each month as her retirement.  This goes into a bank account in China.  By way of reference.  her uncle is a retired general from the Japanese/China war.  His retirement is 10,000 RMB each month, and his wife gets 4000 RMB each month. they live in government quarters and get free medical.
My wife is a retired doctor. and as Maxx said,  it is pay as you go.
My wife kept her name.  When we got married we did not change the name due to her never becoming a US citizen.  She keeps her passport, her retirement card, and we can send her to and from china as we need.  She has her social security card, and her work permit all in her china name.  The local Chinese asked me what 'American name' i was going to call my wife.  my response, she is Chinese and i like her name just fine.
As it stands now, my wife is covered with my medical insurance, has access to my social security 'if needed' as well as she keeps her Chinese benefits as well.

There are different rights for the Chinese people in china. Some of the Chinese are city citizen (城市户口), the others are countryside citizen(农村户口). Some of the countryside citizen wouldn’t have their passion (退休金) although they work and live in the cities because their boss wouldn’t pay the money to their retied salary account.

My wife said the same about pensions - only government workers get it where she comes from (the countryside). The benefits far out weigh the negatives regarding her getting an Irish passport, in fact I cant wait until she does so we can go travelling whenever we like .
