If your coming this way and have room in your bags I could use a few packages of Chili seasoning. (medium, not hot)

 Not hot?  Then why would you eat Chili?   ;D  Again you can make your own.  I don't know if they have all of this in China but to feed about 8 people 3 TBSP of Chili powder, 2 cloves of garlic, 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper (maybe 1/8 for you (it is very hot)) 1 tsp of paprika, 1/2 tsp of ground cumin, a little regular black pepper; 1/2 tsp of salt, 1 large onion(preferably yellow onion) beans and meat.   Simmer for about 3 hours and you've got a meal from heaven.  My children add cheese and crackers, the wimps.

If that doesn't do it for you just tell me what brand and I'll see what I can do.  Haven't got an actual date for the trip yet but before the end of this year I hope.


 :o :o Haven't even made any yet and I feel the indigestion coming on  :o :o  add a little baking soda for the indigestion.  Get ready for it to foam up.  ;D

I love chili but if you remember I spent two weeks in a Chinese hospital with a bleeding hole in my stomach. I think medium chili is about all I can handle.

Gerry I understand.  The primary ingredient that causes heat in the chili is the cayenne pepper.  The next gastric delight is the chili powder.   Limiting your intake on cooked onions might help too.

I was thinking if I have you a recipe for the spices you might be able to enjoy prior to my getting there.  If you are more comfortable with a specific mix just let me know what you are looking for and I'll keep my eye out for it.

I've got just about everything else wrong with me but my stomach is made of cast iron.

But I like my LaoPo's American cooking .. like an example here .

Tri-Tip Roast (w..Rosemary/Peppercorns/Grape/Olive Oil marinaded ) Mash/Mush-Gravy , Cauliflower/Holandiase Sauce/Italian Parsely and a wonderful Salad . Downed with a Melot . Yummy for sure .Qing's own creation .

God is great !
He gave us Chocolate Cake !

Not the best looking cake I've ever made but it is delicious.

My quick country gravey recipe.
a large pinch of salt.
3 tblspoons of bacon grease, or vegetable oil, or butter.
1/8 cup wheat flour.
1 1/3 cups milk ( about two of the small cartons you get in China)

Get the oil nice and hot.
 add 2 tblspoons of flour and the salt.
Let the flour brown and just before it burns add the milk.
Bring to a boil and add the remaining flour.
Let it simmer for 3 minutes. then turn off the heat and let it cool for a while.
Add black pepper if you like and enjoy !

They have these small ovens in the stores here.  I was looking for an Oven to roast my Christmas Turkey in!  Or maybe settle for a pair of pigeons they sell at the market.  Or maybe one if I want any trimmings.

Granted, it is a small oven but it has been a real work horse. Right now I am baking an apple pie and some cinnamin rolls. It is looking very good. I'll let you know.

Although it is a small oven it is the largest available without spending a huge amount of cash for a full sized one. It came with a rotessary that will hold two chickens if that give you and idea of what you can cook with it. It also comes with an hour long video to teach you how to use it.  I think that if I remove all but the bottom rack I could put a turkey inside. Now find me a turkey and I will share the results with you ! I have never seen a turkey for sale here. Perhaps they have a goose?

I gotta go. Fiona is scarfing down the cinnamin rolls all by herself.

Gerry, I believe you have a sweet tooth.  It's funny because I craved sweet things too while I was there.  :P   But I knew somethings would get me in a permanent doghouse if I remotely acted interested.  ;)

I took the granddaughter to McDonald's almost everyday for get an ice cream.  Every time they go there she say Yaya buy me ice cream.

My god, I just got back from Oliver's market. I was so excited to see so many western products in one place. but.....I got two small bags of groceries and the total came to 980 RMB. What a ripoff. but i guess they are the only game in town and can get what they are asking. I could cut cut the prices in half and still make a healthy profit. 

for instance 18 USD for a 1 pound of maxwellhouse coffee or 5 USD for a tiny jar of peanut butter.

I won't be back anytime soon..

Gerry.  There are peanut farms all around you.  You can make if that is what you like.  Can't help you with the coffee.  Juan Valdez has a monopoly on the coffee bean.

It's been about 30 years but I used to make my own peanut butter.  All I can remember is peanuts, a little oil and a minuscule amount of sugar.   Oh roast the peanuts.  It kind of works better that way.  Experiment until you get the taste you like. 

I used to do that with pistachios too.  My father had a step son in law who has a pistachio farm so I had access to them.  It really tastes better than it sounds.

Not a problem. Just got to know ahead Oliver's is expensive. Be prepared to pay a premium for western food. That is their marketing model. I just got too excited and overspent buying things I could have found elsewhere if I had tried.
