Tax Time

Was wondering if anyone has experience using Turbo Tax and how to enter information regarding their wife as a non resident.
The software always wants me to input her SIN number and province?

Good question.  I was wondering how being married will affect my taxes this year.  Hmmm.  My t4's are always so late.

I am using the online version....very confusing. I cannot figure out how to do it, and the Turbo Tax forum is a joke. Maybe I will need to go to
a tax specialist this year. The online version will not allow me to file as married without inputing a SIN # for my wife.

Had the same problem applying for the passport (online). It would not take my old passport number? said it was not correct? I knew better it was in my hand. Maybe do as I did?

See if you can download the form and enter what is needed?

Just as a sideline to Tax thread. 

An announcement made two days ago.

Some of the UK soldiers in Afghanistan need to complete Inland Revenue Self Assessment Forms for tax returns.  The IR has said that they are aware that aware that most military there do not have ready internet access. But any not sending in their online form by 31st of January each year will be give an automatic 100 GBP penalty (about 150 US Dollars).

They said that they are unable to mark any changes without a new law being passed! What a load of B---------s!

So go ahead and be prepared to maybe possibly give up your life, but survive and the Government blood suckers are still queued up for their pound of flesh.

Thanks everyone! I called the CRA international line 800-267-5177. They were very helpful there. There is a trick when using software.
As you have to file as married they will ask for her SIN#. This is what I was told, you put all zeros in for her SIN#.
I hope this will help others is a similar situation.

Sorry guys I spoke too soon. Now I cannot enter a selection under province...not sure now...maybe I will file using the old paper system.

I have found a good solution now. Ufile works better in this instance, it has a non resident question that will bypass this problem  ;D ;D ;D

2 years ago I decided to take advantage of a Tax Rule in Aus whereby if I signed up to work until I was 70, and not take the Government Pension at 65 as I am entitled to, I will get a Tax-free "bonus" when I reach 70....(if)  ;D ;D...on top of which I will be a self-funded retiree anyway.

I now find out that I need to fill in a mountainous and complex form explaining exactly why I have opted out of the Government Pension scheme. It reminds me that there are SEVERE penalties for people who knowingly cheat the Government by refusing to take a Pension...and I must explain fully within 30 days or risk a penalty...

It is easier just to give in and take my "hand-out, which I dont need because my Business is thriving and maybe some other poor sucker could use this money instead of me...hey ho, the World has gone mad !!!!!

Come on Dave, this is OZ you know the rules, stick your hand out and someone will put money in it............oh I forgot not for the people who pay the taxes to pay for it..........take the money and I will give you my bank details to deposit it into so you do not feel guilty......... ;D ;D

Friend of mine from college said he plans on going to work for the IRS soon. My question to him "You mean you are not sick of tax paper work by April 15?"

Yeah, we all have messed up tax codes and here in this country they want to scream about people only paying 15% tax on income from investments... I guess that means the 99% want to pay 36% on their retirement funds... :o

IRS had a lay off a while ago? Maybe they're hiring again? One the the things I stayed away from when possible.. doing taxes. I do my own and have done business taxes but as a full time position, no thanks.

I moved to China - I pay no taxes on any income from the UK.

If they UK IR come knocking on my door I will have two choices. Pay them or tell them to%^^&(#@ off.

Neither is going to happen. They just send me demands every year - I ignore them and the added penalties just pile up together with the interest.

Its a great feeling having the upper hand after all these years.
