What do you guys do to keep busy in China?

So, one of the things that comes across my mind is this, what to do with your time while there?  Can you play golf at a reasonable price?  How about boating, sailing, swimming, working out?  In California it can be insane to ride a bicyle on some roads.  I can only imagine what that would be like in China.  So, please tell me how you pursue your free time as a man.  Thanks, alex

Alex , whilst thinking is free ha ha , one has to find out to which area your lady lives as many activities vary from area to area , if you go to the larger cities you can spend weeks getting lost around the cities , do not forget they have 5000 years of history not 250 like the states and there are a zillion tours that can be had and they are dirt cheap by our standards and in most towns an abundance of parks where daily life never stops .
 China for the best part is a country that never stops , but slows down between 2 am and 6 am , and many of the women have not travelled even around their country to the extent that us Westerners do , regards Sujuan and Robert .

Shopping, Exploring, looking for western resturants, Temples, hot springs, walks, getting off the subway at a random location and see if you can find your way home, dirt cheap tours and holidays, cooking, reading, trying to connect to facebook without getting caught, KTV, majong, birthday parties, travel, trade shows, expos people watching in the parks, badmitton, foot massage, body massage, haircuts, photography, girl watching.

Spending time together with the person we go there to visit. Next time, we will visit some warm beach at Hainan. After that go see some snow somewhere, first time in her life. (We get plenty of snow at Finland so its more like misery for me haha... But I don't care really I'm used to the cold and snow. And it might be amazing for her).

Visit some local tourist attractions.

And the highlight of my last trip. Walking up a whole mountain. Emeishan. Took several days and I was quite tired every day. My 女pengyou that accompanied me. Did not like the walking trip though hehe... But did it for me. She swore she will never walk/climb that much ever again in her life. Several tens of thousands of steps climbing up and down... The higher we got the harder it was to breathe.

You can go and see some restaurants. Different kinds of stores. Walk around in the parks. I tried swimming, but lets just say I was the only person capable of going to the "deep water pool" so I did not go there to be alone hehe.

I think bicyle trip might be good, if you plan to do it locally. But otherwise, a car or even a motorbike would be awesome to travel those mountains, beautiful scenery areas etc. with.

Riding a bicycle isn't too bad in China.  You must remember to remain on the sidewalks though.  Getting in the streets could get you killed.

In some places that could get you killed with all the motor bikes and cars that use the sidewalks in preference to the street. Maybe why so many Chinese walk in the street.

Most of the activities sighted were basically tourist in nature.  That is cool and I would do it also.  But if you have hobbies like golf, swimming, working out, or such..do any of you have any knowledge about costs or availability?

I would say stay at a 4-5 star Hotel. they have gym's, pools, bicycle rental, casino, golf course (on site), indoor pool, jacuzzi, massage, outdoor pool, sauna, spa, squash courts, tennis courts, water sports, depends where your going (city)?

Of course they have spas and gyms and swimming pools in the major cities. The prices are probably cheaper than back in the USA although I have not personally priced them.

I am not sure I  understand why you would make a substantial investment in traveling to the land of beautiful women and then want to go play golf.

Tell me, why did your wife leave you?  ha ha.

This talk of golf has given me a wonderful idea.   Has anyone ever played golf in China?  What was the golf course like?  I know they play in Japan.  They can't use American balls there.  (golf-golf-golf)    The golf balls there are formulated a little differently because the courses are much smaller.


Gerry.  You don't like golf?  My fiance is wanting to learn when she comes to the U.S.  It is a great American sport.

I have given away two sets of golf clubs and each time I buy a new set it only takes one round for me to rember why I gave it if in the first place.

I now have two sets in the garage and I only use them on the driving range to work out my hostilities. BTW I am supposed to close on my house tomorrow. .    Maybe were  not homeless after all.

Golf is getting bigger in China. The Chinese tournamounts are often shown on TV here and the Chinese PGA finished last weekend.

There are a lot of Professional golfers in China.  With all these international tournaments being played they must have lots of full size courses.

Never seen the point myself. You hit a ball as far as you can, go and find it and hit it again and repeat the process for about 4 miles or so.  Plus you need a few loud mouths along the way shouting 'In The Hole'!

 I've been hearing that for years but not always during golf.

But then this game was invented in Scotland - need I say more?

2hip, over in China you just go to a park and you will see many cultural, musical, martial arts, sports, dance going on. It is very easy if you stay in China for any period of time to pick up a hobby by joining a group that participate in the park. Heck in Mezhou I remember seeing on a side street a mass of people learning to ballroom dance. There are so many variety of things to do and see that soon you will be too hip to be square.
