« on: May 02, 2012, 12:10:58 pm »
Hi all,
We just got the latest Samsung phone similar to the iphone but it is in English. Does anyone know who we can get a program or something to change the phone into Chinese language version?
Thanks.

Looking into the settings, should help.
If not, then the other way is to flash the rom, so that you can have chinese or any other language.
Hmm...
Btw, are you talking about Samsung Galaxy Note?
If you know a bit about that phone, you can find many good tips / advises here :
forum.xda-developers.com/

I will look again about that tonight.
On my rom, I can choose the language I want to use, when booting the first time.
Hmmm.... I have maybe the answer now in fact. you should reset to factory defaults, then, when turning off and on, it should ask you which language you want to use.
Please feel free to let me know :)

What model of phone do you have.

I just had my Samsung galaxy S converted over to Chinese last month. Actually it is both Chinese and English and can switch between from the settings menu. It is usually selectable when the phone is new but being from the good old USA from Att they only gave you two choices. English and ..er...english.

There is a shop in the telephone market that will do it for 100 RMB (about 15 bucks). If you are planning on being in Guangzhou I will show you where is is.

oh yes. if you got it from a USA carrier it is most likely locked to that company and cant be used in China. The shop that converted my phone also will unlock it for you.

That depends on the firmware that comes with the new phone. I have seen some galaxys here in China that have every language on earth to choose from  and others with just a few. I think it depends on the choices your carrier wants you to have. ATT only loaded the firmware for English on my phone. The reason is your guess but probably because they do not want the phone to leave them and don't want it used outside the USA.  Now I have new firmware I have more choices.

BTW I gave my phone to Fiona and have been looking at the Galaxy note.  How do you like it?  What is the going price for a new one?

I saw a used one her for i think 480. But you need to go to the market every day and have the cash in hand, because they disappear fast.

I have the Samsung Note too and have just got back from my first trip to China. The phone was fantastic - with my eyesight and fat fingers it is so much nicer to use than the smaller phones.

As a translator it was not too bad either. My girl had a Besta, and although I could type English on it fast enough, she struggled a little bit with the Chinese character recognition, often having to redo the characters as they weren't recognised properly. She is so patient and persevered though.

On the Note I had installed:
- Google Translate - probably the most used - for quick translation of whole sentences. It also has a conversation mode where we each speak in turn and it translates our voice. It got my English spot on most of the time, but struggled a bit with her Chinese, but at least she could edit the sentence before hitting the translate button.
- Train Chinese - good mostly for learning
- Pleco - a pretty good piece of software with 5 input methods: drawing characters with the pen or finger, selecting the character from similar characters within groups, normal keyboard, voice recognition, and camera. The camera option was cool especially for translating signs on buildings etc.

Sorry to hijaak the thread - just my opinion that the Note does all this extremely well, and if you are a big bloke like me, it's a great tool. This was the first trip away for years that I didn't take a laptop and I didn't miss it either.

Also I understand there is a difference in the Chinese versions (a slower processor) than the international ones. Also in the markets in China I saw some clones out already, a bit cheaper but I have no idea if they are any good.

Fiona got me a cool new phone a couple of days ago. It is a clone of something but I cant tell what. It is about the same size as the Samsung tab. From the back it looks like an HTC but from the front it looks like a Samsung Galaxy TAB. It is running the Android 2.2 os and I am very happy with it so far. It has dual sim cards, wifi, gps, and bluetooth. It has all the usual apps pre-loaded but It will download apps from Google market or from apps websites like 360.

The best part is the price.  1,000 RMB, no haggling. Thats 153 USD at today's rate. At that price it is a disposable phone.

Pineau. I see you still have a little way to go to qualify for Chinese status. Please write 100 times that nothing is 'disposable' to a Chinese person. ;D ;D

Ha Ha. I am more Chinese than you !

Do you remember in December 2010 when I landed in the hospital and almost bled to death? It was transfusions of CHINESE blood that kept me alive.  Does that qualify me as a Chinese-American or an American-Chinese?

Joking aside. This is a really good value for an Android Phone. Especially with all the features of an American designed phone. You can order it and have it delivered in America for about 150 + shipping  if you order 5 pieces.

Ha ha then it will cost me 1000 us dollars to fly to the USA to pick it up.  That is they ever give me a visa to enter!!!

I have just been for a sim card for my 3G phone.  Took about 10 pieces of paper and 30 minutes to complete it.  UK took 3 minutes and no paperwork.   But I still love you Chinese!!!
