Sending flowers
« on: April 25, 2013, 08:44:05 pm »
Anyone know a good way to send flowers to a lady in China?  This is supposed to be a surprise, so I can't just ask her if there is a good florist I can talk with.  I was wondering if FTD or 1800flowers delivers to China.

Thanks!

I doubt if you will be able to send surprise flowers to anyone in China.

They will insist that you provide a telephone number otherwise they will not take the order.

They will want to ring her first so as not to make a visit where no one is there to accept them.

That goes for anything delivered in China- no contact number then no delivery.

Did you have to give her telephone number when you placed the order?  I tried to do that once but they got onto me the next day to tell me they needed the phone number.

She is getting a long holiday for May Day then. Everyone down here is having Wednesday to Friday off 1 - 3 May.

We keep the red flag flying here. ::)

Flowers haven't arrived yet, but she got a call that they were going to be delivered within the hour while I was talking with her on FaceTime.

Will follow up when I know more.  Maybe she will send me a picture.

As I said no such things as surprise flowers here. But normally you do get a lot of flowers for your money here.  We have fresh flowers in our home here all the time.  There is nothing quite like walking in the front door to genuine flower aroma.

Yes, Willy, it was sad that they told her they were delivering them... but she liked them very much, so that is good.

Pretty lady!
Previous to my meeting with Jing, I too sent her flowers. The thing is Jing does not like flowers! It turns out she thinks flowers a waste because they can't be eaten. So...when the special occasion arose, I just bought a bunch of carrots, green tops still attached in all their glory, stuck the carrots in a vase and presented it to her. She liked. Thought it was kind of funny. Nice bouquet.. carrots.
Something I read somewhere, but we have to be careful in choosing color in China. I think white may not be a wise choice.

John.  I read that also.  Here:  http://www.jazzviolin.com/china/2007/10/05/china-gifts-chinese-gift-etiquette-gift-ideas-in-china-gift-giving-in-china-gift-taboos/

However, Hongping told me she liked white flowers, and I've seen a bouquet of flowers on her dining room table from time to time.  So I knew it was OK to send them to her.  I had also asked her about gift giving etiquette a few times in the past.  When I go to China, I expect to meet friends and family and wanted to know about the gifts I should get and should NOT get.
