Here's an interesting article in today's Irish times :-

--- Quote ---In the West, the Barbie doll symbolises particularly superficial form of consumerism, but in China, it has become associated feminist movement that is challenging long-established patriarchal norms, writes CLIFFORD COONAN in Shanghai

SHE’S BLONDE, SHE smiles all the time, and Shanghai’s newest and hippest shopping emporium is dedicated to her. She’s 11½ inches high. Her name is Barbie.

Keren loves Barbie mate, she has a small collection of them at home, I intend taking Ken over for her, if I can get him?

Interesting Article.  I had a Chinese (in his 60's i think) man here tell me that if I wanted a truly good wife.  "Go to the country".  "There women still know their place."  He was dead serious.  I just chuckled and told him too late.  He just shook his head laughed and said I would be sorry.  I guess that coincides with the article on women in the cities and in the country.
