Nineteen people were detained up to 15 days in June for transport of flammable materials or explosives in the subway in Shanghai, said the city police in the Tuesday edition of the Shanghai Daily.
Police in Shanghai has increased its controls on items prohibited in public transport after the fire, June 5, a bus in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province (southwest).
In this fire, a man had deliberately set fire to a bus through with gasoline, killing 27 people and wounding 74 others.
More than 7 500 items have been seized this year, including the highly concentrated industrial alcohol, thinner for paint and lacquer, according to Metro Police.
Security personnel checked the metro users to search for prohibited items such as fireworks, gasoline, poisons, corrosive materials and hazardous chemicals.
Many passengers were aware that prisoners were forbidden to travel on the subway with flammable items or explosives, but they thought they would never be controlled, "said metro police.
Police also urged the Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, the operator of the local subway, to renew its surveillance cameras in the subway.
On lignes1 to 5, some have never held office for eight years, said local police.
