A plane from Afghanistan, which was going to Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang autonomous region of northwestern China, racked by deadly violence last month, was the subject of a bomb.

The official China News agency, quoting police sources, said that the plane was refused landing by the airport authorities. Law enforcement and emergency services have, however, headed to the airport. New China, citing diplomatic sources, said the aircraft was returned to Afghanistan and arrived in Kandahar in the south of the country.

The riots on July 5 in Urumqi, where the Uighurs, Turkic-speaking Muslim ethnic majority in Xinjiang, Han attacked, 197 have officially dead. Beijing has accused the Congress of the World Uyghur dissident exiled Rebiya Kadeer to be organized, which she denied.
