It seems many of us are going to visit in February for the Chinese new year and to meet up with our girls, some for the first time, some to be reunited with their beloved!
I'd love to meet up with whatever brothers are near Guangzhou when i'm there and maybe some other bro's can hook up in other parts.
So for the guys visiting in February can you reply with the dates you are visiting and where and any romance plans you have (just being nosey there!!).
I'll get the ball rolling:_
I plan on visiting for the month of February to Guangzhou.
I will be staying near a Metro (subway) station so anybody visiting or living there (Ted) I'd love to hook up. I'm hoping to have an apartment for the month so will have a good base of operations!
I will get a double entry visa as I'd like to visit Hong Kong again if anyone is gonna be there for a few days then let me know :)
The major things planned for this trip are :-
1) Back together with Sunny as much as possible
2) Meet her parents
3) If parent meeting goes well, decide on wedding date
4) Chinese New Year celebrations!
All bros going to China in February may you have a fantastic romantic trip and maybe some of us can meet each other too and swap stories :)

Planning my 3rd trip in China, in February, from 14th to 28th :)
I should arrive at Gz at morning (about 05:45 am), then, waiting for Lyian, or maybe going in Gz to see her, I have to check about that with her ^^'
Then, later, we will go to Beijing, and Chengde. We should be back at Gz maybe on the 26-27th :)
I'd be glad and honored to meet you, Irish', as I'd like to see many other Brothers :)

I will be in Beijing from February 3rd to about march 3rd. Two weeks in Beijing and 2 weeks at Hainan Sanyo island in the South China Sea. Would be glad to hook up with anyone there. Will try to hook up with Chong at least. But, i thought we were all going to Willy's house. Didnt he volunteer to put all of us up with our laopo's? i thought he did. lol. There are 8 of us that I know of. Irish and Sunny, Chong and Sunny, Sylvain and Lyian and Gina and I. A big barbeque with a mix of Americans, Canadians, French, UK and our Chinese Ladies. That would really be a blast. We could have our own UN delegation to China. lol I am a certified minister in the US, i could marry all of you there. Of course i do not think the Chinese government would recognize that. But, so what as long as the ladies did. lol I have marriage certificates.

I am planning on a trip to HK as my lady wants to go there. I don't know when I'll go, but I guess avoiding new year might be a good idea. I'd also love to meet her folks again (this time with a translator).
-
Dibs on the bedroom at Willy's. lol
-
The military is not suppose to smile in the parade. Its all about the stonic look. Notice the 3 woman in the PLAAF/PLA/PLAN poster who are smiling?
-
Dibs on the bedroom at Willy's. lol
If Scottish Rob is coming you can fit two couples in there. Maybe not if he brings the bagipes - he should have the small balcony and annoy the rest of Zhongshan!!!!

Greetings Brothers,
First, congrats Chong and Sunny.
Second Zhen and I are planning to marry feb 14th but we will be in Handan. I do not know how much time we will have since I appear to be the only poor sap who actually has to work while in China!! Man, how the hell did that happen?
Anyway if anyone is near Handan you are of course all invited details to follow later. We would love to meet everyone but not sure if we could escape to meet up where everyone else is.
As for the thread about kicking out the teachers over 60. While that doesnt apply to me as I am no where near 60 only 50 plus hehhe my school is in the process of getting me a new visa. It wont be the Z visa, I think they said an F visa. We will see what happens and let you all know for reference.
Anyway congrats to all who are coming to china to visit. Hopefully you and your ladies get everything you hope for and we have a sudden upswing in the positive and the happy!!
Take care everyone,
Zhen and Brian
-
brian let me know or all uf us know how the visa thing works out.
as you know i am thinking of working here and have been told many things
so i worry about that. i just dont want to be asked to leave the country if
i dont have a z visa. anyway hope you find out soon. and by the way
Joyce is a really nice young lady willing to help so much and is understanding
-
Ted,
Your married to a Chinese National, so unless you break the laws of the land you will still have your residency visa, that has nothing to do with you working.
If you, for argument's sake had a Z visa and it was later revoked due to a new legislation, then you would simply exchange that Z visa for a normal residents visa. ....No big deal, your not going to be kicked out of the country!!
As I've mentioned before, there is also a massive demand for private English tuition in China, So if you want to work without a Z visa, then go about it, going the private tuition route!!
You should be finding out by now Ted, .... there are ways and means to get around most things in China....hahaha!!
David....
-
I have been told and read many times that private tutoring is the way to go. I know the problem of getting students. The first one would be the hardest but then word of mouth spreads like crazy over there. I hear the average is 100 rmb per hour. The possibilities are endless.

-
Ted,
I'll be there if I can figure a way. (Doubtful) Right now I am shooting for Feb 1 with a possible March 1. Either way I will more than likely stay until May 1 when both of my girls graduate.
I also talked with Peggy about meeting up with you and your wife. She is not traveling right now so I will remind her again.

Brian,
That's an interesting way around a Z visa. this is from the embassy website:-
Business Visa (F Visa) is issued to an alien who is invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies or internship for a period of no more than six months. I suppose you could be giving a lecture or maybe it could be a cultural exchange!
Yes Jim no shortage of private students here! A popular way is to teach 3 or 4 students at a time and then they split the cost between them. You charge a higher hourly rate but because they split the cost it works out cheaper for them! Everybody wins, only problem is the number of people you have coming to your door!:icon_cheesygrin:
Ted, don't know how legit this is or how much they charge!

David, if one of your neighbours reports you to the police you will have two choices. Either pay off the police man or pay the fine. I would not be so blase about breaking the law here, until you get a bit of "Guanxi" going! You could always teach the local police chief's son English ! that would do it!:icon_cheesygrin:

Paul,
There are ways around most things in China.
Sure you have to use your head, like in most things you get involved in, in life. No-one said the students always have to come to you, there's no reason why you can't on occasion go to them. There are many so called businesses conducted from home in China, it's an everyday occurance in most housing blocks. It's not as if your going to have a steady stream of students coming and going all day long. Probably it will be an evening thing anyway, after normal working hours, the neighbours would all be then glued to there TVs, rather than looking out at the comings and goings of neighbours visitors...lol!!
No-ones suggesting to be blase, It's upto the individules what arrangements your going to make to undertake their private tuition plans... All i know is, that there was and are, plenty making good money teaching private English lessons, and few if any have a full Z visa....
Many being just like Ted and others, being married to a Chinese National and making a bit (a good bit) on the side....
David.....

It seems we have a number of brothers wanting to meet up in February. i am one of them. i mentioned it to my wife and she really liked the idea. She thought that it would be good for the wives to get to know each other and exchange ideas, etc. So if we can set a date, like a weekend for example to get together in Guangzhou, I would be willing to make the trip down from Beijing. Besides she said it is warmer there than Beijing. we can make our island plans around it also. I know the 14th is New Years so that is out. What about the third week end in February? I am just throwing that out so those that are coming just before the 14th would have a chance to come also. Lets try to set it up. (Willy, I was kidding about your bedroom and home). If TTWjr or Willy could find a good inexpensive hotel for us to stay at, we could all stay there. I think it would be fun.
-
JimB
thats a good idea there is a hotel that my wife books rooms for people
who come and visit her company for her boss. its not a bad place and when
we had our house painted we stayed there 1 night because of the paint smell
and we got the room for 268 rmb now that was when the trade fair was in town
and all the rooms were from 1100rmb to 1800 rmb depending on which hotel. very clean
nice rooms in the haizhu district downtown is a 25 minute bus ride with no traffic
-
Could you put the info out in this thread? We will see how many can make it, then get a group rate.
-
I've updated the first post with a summary of the who will be in China and where over the new year festival period.
I'll update if and when we get some more replies.
It would be great if the GZ guys could meet up, there is going to be enough of us there to have a pretty big get together which could be good fun.
-
I will definately be there. It should be a great weekend.

I booked my flight yesterday and Sonia my translator has allready booked me a room over night. I will arrive in Shenyang friday evening February 12th. Leave Wednesday evening the 24th. Linda and i have no major plans other than spending time together. She mentioned going to Shanghai once on the phone, she said it is very beautiful there. Everything will depend on how her father is by then. I would love to go south and meet the guys there but will also depend on her father's condition.
I was a little suprised at the cost of my flight, much more expensive this time. I have a big layover in LA on the way back too. I think i have read on here that this is not everybody's favorite airport right?
Oh yeh i checked the long term weather forcast for north china and it said a major heat wave for February next year. It also said it would be a great year for guys from Ft. Lauderdale to visit. Just thought i would relay that info here.
Kenny
-
Yeah I know. Would love to. I'm thinking of divorcing my family? Instead of helping they block me. A heat wave would be nice since I don't want to be there in the cold. Not use to it anymore. If it drops below 60 degrees I'm wrapped up like it's 0 here. I'm hoping for June at best. Everyone is dragging their feet.

I am booked into this hotel 'Yu Feng hotel' for a few days from Monday. I am paying 250 rmb a night (i believe - but will wait and see the actual price when I get there). I will let you all know what I think of it and try to get them to work on a group rate. Although around 14th Feb may be pricey as that is New Year - so later in the month may be better unless we want to celebrate our first Chinese New Year as a group.
Willy

yes thats a good idea willy

If anyone is looking to book accommodation in GZ then you might want to check out http://www.5thhotel.com/En/phototours.aspx
Sunny has booked me a "Luxury suite with bedroom and living room" , which has a fully fitted kitchen with washing machine, cooker, microwave etc. The apartment has internet too.
She negotiated a rate of 140 RMB per night for us which isn't bad! She visited it today and said its very nice with many expats living there.
Its located beside "South China Normal University" (2 minute walk apparently) metro stop so very very convenient for getting around the city.

Thanks for the news, Ronan :)
I'll talk about it to Lyian, so that she can look about it :)
