I will be leaving Tuesday the 19th for Nanning, Shenzhen, and Beihai.
Visiting for the first time a girl in Nanning from CLL, and also to visit the 608 and 512 agency in town.
I then have to go over to Shenzhen to take care of business issues, but while I'm there I might visit Moonlove and the Oriental agency. There are two from the Moonlove agency I just started talking to. Hopefully I will be able to meet them. In any event I should acquire really good information on these agencies for the guys on this forum.
Then over to Beihai to look at homes to buy. I understand they are new and quite reasonable. I will also visit a friend of mine. She is only a friend and is looking for a guy. She is pretty 24 years old and can speak and write English well. Anyone interested PM me.
Then back to Nanning.
Now that is the plan, but at any point along the way if I find my girl then the whole schedule gets revised. I do have to be in Shenzhen at least breifly though.
I will be there for three weeks, as I return on the 14th of Feb.. If anyone has any advice I'm all ears. I have been to China several times, but I feel like a newbie sometimes. I hope this trip is successful. Really tired of the process.
Jeff
-
Jeff, good luck with all of that!
I'll be in the vicinity starting Feb 6th, so if you're bored, let me know!
Cheers,
Frank
-
Jeff,
I'm afraid that even if the homes are dirt cheap, you won't be able to buy one!! As far as i can remember, you need to be a Business in China for X amount of years with a Chinese business partner or married to a national and then the property is registared in her name...not yours!!
Unless the rules have changed in the last year or so that is.....
David....
-
Jeff glad to see you got your sign in issues taken care of.Irish or Martin was going to have to fix it.I don't have that kind of access to fix things like that.
About your trip the only advice.I can offer. Is slow down it is hard to really get to know someone in just a couple of days. You said your spending three weeks there so I hope you have one special lady picked out.And I hope your are going to give it a harder try then just a couple of days.Chinese women like romance to.They are not all about business all the time.I don't think I would be dragging the special lady to the other marriage agencies. To a Chinese woman it says your still looking. And you have just shot yourself in the foot. Most Chinese women I know have a big jealousy streak running threw them.SO be very careful
We do need your impression and opinion of the other agencies. But don't get yourself in trouble over it.
Good luck
Maxx
-
Looking forward to hearing about your trip Jeff. Good luck with everything. It sounds like you will be quite busy during these three weeks.
-
Wow I'm surprised by the quick replies, but it is appreciated. Thanks
Frank yes it would be great to sit and have a coffee or a wine. Do you have a Chinese cell phone? I have to get another while I'm there. In December I lost mine in a taxi in Beijing jeez, so I have to get another. In any event let's keep in touch and see if it happens. We have some experiences in common.
David- Yes I'm aware of that. I have a plan haha. Thanks though.
Maxx- Thanks for the advice. I do need to slow down. I do have a tendency to go to fast sometimes when I see something in business or a woman. I'm spending three weeks and only going back because I have a child support hearing Feb. 24th to get it lowered. If you knew what I was paying now you would be cheering for a victory lol. The plan is to go right back at the end of Feb. or the first of March and stay for awhile. I don't know how long. I have one girl I met on CLL, and she wants to pick me up at the airport. I'm not getting my hopes up. What is the saying here? Go without high expectations. That's what I'm doing. I am good at romance and affection, so I should be okay with that. Omg lol I would never think about taking her to an agency. That would be rude as heck. If she's the one then I might not ever make it to an agency. Yes if a Chinese woman loves you they will LOCK you down lol. I have experienced that. But having said all that I'm kind of just going to see what happens without forcing the issue. If it happens it happens. If not then I will do as the professional poker players say after losing a hand, "deal the cards". I appreciate your wisdom Maxx. Anytime you want to throw it my way I'm listening.
Martin- Talked to you earlier. Thanks yeah I'll be busy. I figure as much as I'm pursuing this I'm bound to get lucky and find a special woman. I'm playing the odds. Sooner or later I'm bound to hit. Once I do I won't screw this one up.
-
Is this only in Guangzhou or are they loosing up the rules for all of China ??
-
I was just out to dinner with a bunch of locals in Chongqing, they said no problem buying a house here.........I was in Nanning for about 10 days up till about 10 days ago, if you have nothing to do and like night clubs go to the Soho, full of gorgeous young ladies willing to talk to any westerner. There is also a very famous street/lane just opposite WallMart, you'll see a million people crossing the road every time the walk sign comes on, just follow them, there are some pretty amazing sights like dog raw or cooked ,great little street for a stroll
-
Cam
Thanks for the info. The Soho, hmm that sounds tempting. I also have heard of that street opposite WalMart. Did you visit the agencies there? Anything else you can tell me about Nanning before I arrive? Well if my girl doesn't show up at the airport and it doesn't work out at the agencies then at least I can visit the Soho. Is it on Dongge Rd or Minzu Ave.?
-
Ted,
225 sq mt, I hope your lady is up to cleaning it, that's big by Chinese standards.
Why do you need one that big?? There's only the 2 of you right?? Even if you wanted friends and relatives to stay at different times, that still seems on the big side for China.
Do you know, ....i don't think i've ever been into an apartment of that size inu China, ...around 150/170 is about the biggest i've seen, and that was in a real expensive block, on a real expensive development.... haha!!
David.....
-
David,
i have looked at many this size in guangzhou but didnt like the layouts
so i drew up one for us. we need 3 bedrooms as my mom and her mom and
dad will live with us. my mom all year long and hers about 6 months. it will
have 2 bathrooms and a big kitchen as my wife loves to cook and bake.
the kitchen will be a western kitchen with a full stove and oven along with
the dish washer yes you can get those here in china. i also want a den like
i had in usa as my office. i sold everything i the USA houses and all so i will
set up here comfortable and enjoy. the problem now is that i have to do
all this in a new building unless i do find one that is layed out well.
-
Good luck with your trip Jeff. remember to update us...:icon_cheesygrin:
-
Ted,
Are you saying your going to buy a plot of land and build your own place, or have i miss-read
you?? If you are ...that'll be a first...lol!! Does that new rule for Aliens include land purchase??
Yes i know those goods are available there, you can find just about anything really in China, just have to know where to look. I purchased a freestanding oven/hob while in China and took it with me when i moved projects there. Didn't go as far as a dishwasher though! ...lol!!
David......

Yeah the Soho bar is huge, the second time I went there I ended up drinking with the owner (little mafia looking type who rarely smiles but nice guy) and all the lovelies that hang around him, it was Xmas eve and I ended up leaving at 5am after a great night playing the dice game with a couple of little sweeties that were a good 30yrs younger than me, NYE was much the same.
I didn't go to meet a girl ( had one failure in Changsha about 5 months ago, that was enough to put me off ChnLove) I met a nice girl on QQ and as I was going to China anyhow I decided to go to Shanghai and meet her but I got sick of the place after 3 weeks of freezing my nuts off and seeing a westerner every time I turned around so I decided to go somewhere warmer (I came here to find a job teaching but they want a degree in the bigger city's & I only have TESOL) Nanning is really clean compared to a lot of places I've been and you'd be lucky to hear 10 people spit a day, names of streets and places I'm useless with but they sound familiar. once you get used to most of the girls looking very Vietnamese (on the border) they become more beautiful by the day.
I've ended up signing a 12 month contract in Chongqing (fog city) and I'll find my own woman once it's decided which school I'm at in a few weeks and have my own apartment, this place is MASSIVE and foggy, I'm sitting in a luxury 23rd floor apartment which they are letting me stay in for free until I'm placed and I can barely see the ground, I guess being 400m above sea level doesn't help much.
Good luck with the trip & ladies..........plenty out there.

No wonder Sarge went off to Vietnam in his younger days. He probably said screw the war, I am going to see this girl!
-
Cam
Thanks for that. haha. I have to say I am partial to the Vietnamese/Cantonese look. I think I'd like to have a drink with that owner. I would guess that bar is not far from their two or three universities there.
So what did you do close your eyes and put a finger on the map and it was Nanning? haha.
Good luck in Chongqing. I'm sure all will go well for you there. That is probably my second favorite province as far as beautiful women go. If I strike out in Guangxi province then Sichuan might be my next trek/adventure.
-
yes they do have seperate houses on their own lot outside of guangzhou
but you definately need a car for those. to far to town
what i am saying david is that on the new buildings in certain areas the top floors are
large housing. i looked at on that was 325 m finished but it basically had a large front
room and the bedrooms were average with 1 small bathroom??

Well apart from the blonde Brazilian singer who works there, you'll probably be the only westerner in the club, on a normal night, it starts to kick off at about 10.30pm.
As far as choosing Nanning I was talking to a girl who contacted me on qq and she said it was warmer there, I'd been to Guangdong before so I hit the airport and landed there, stayed at the 7 Days Inn (the one close to the 5 way intersection with KFC on one corner & McDonalds on the other) within walking distance of both WallMart & Soho for 129rmb per night, great hotel & very helpful staff, mind you it's only 7rmb to get to either by taxi.
If you like seafood hit that lane at night & stay away from PizzaHut, it's like a night club with more staff than customers & twice the price of one at your local.
As I'm here doing nothing they have given me a couple of relief classes ( the girls in the office couldn't organise a piss up in a pub, first time I've ever taught kids & they are doing Cambridge at that ) grade one's last Friday & grade 6's today, talk about an undisciplined bunch of little shit's, may as well get the 5 or 6 good kids & throw the other 40 out of the class, but you have no power to do anything and no support from the school, can't wait to get my own permanent school in late Feb.

Yes Jim , like me rowing to Shanghai . We would be fools not to .

I’m off to the airport in a few hours. Pulling an all-nighter to start adjusting to the time. Will keep everyone posted.
Cam that was a laugher and thanks for the info.

Jeff. Have a fantastic trip. I am looking forward to the updates. Good luck adjusting to the time, and have fun!

Alright.
I just got into my hotel in Nanning. Stayed over last night in Hong Kong. The Flight was an hour and a half late, so instead of getting in at 8:30pm it was more like 10pm or so. I supposedly picked a hotel less than a half mile away from the airport, because my flight left at 10:25am the next morning. Well the hotel was a good 30 minutes from the airport. Go figure. Driving up to the airport this morning I look off to my right and see a Marriott hotel maybe 1000 feet from the airport. I just had to laugh to myself. The flight went well to HK. The flight also went well to Nanning, but it always amazes me the smoking flight attendants on the Chinese airlines. Doesn’t matter which one they all mostly have really nice looking women. Hong Kong Airlines did not disappoint haha. I fly Continental and it is the polar opposite haha.
Went through the usual customs to get my bag, and then went to another machine that you had to put all of your luggage through for one last check. Well I get mine off the belt and start to attach my carry-on to the big bag, and I glance toward the doorway leading out to the public area. There is this girl there waving, but she was a good 40 feet away. I’m thinking she’s waving at someone else and continue to attach my bags together. As I walk toward the door it became apparent she was waving at me, as she waved again and had this smile on my face. The first time she waved I’m thinking to myself that is a nice looking girl. Well when I knew that was my girl I could just smile and think well she passes the look test right away haha. That part is over with, but I quickly found out that she can’t really speak any English. She wrote English, so I assumed she could at least speak a little. That wasn’t good, but I had my Besta 7000 and she had her cousin with her who did speak English. They brought their uncle along to drive us. It was raining pretty well. We got into this van, and everything about it was mini. It looked like it was built for small people. I felt pretty big in this thing haha. The valves were knocking something bad, and I could tell he couldn’t go very fast on the expressway because of it. It was kind of humbling for me, as all I could think of was how fortunate I am to have the things that I do. I’m not rich by any means, but my cars back home are in a lot better shape. These people didn’t think a thing of it, and were as happy as if they had everything. I always seem to either learn something new or have a revelation everytime I come to this country, and I haven’t been here 24 hours yet. Wendy (my girl) wanted to go into town before I checked in and get something to eat, as she had a three o’clock meeting at work to get to. So we went to a Cantonese restaurant close to her work and had a great meal with 5 different dishes on the table. Excellent food and a lot of it. We couldn’t finish it and there were four of us. The bill was 250RMB. What a deal. I know I’ll return to that place again. She then left the table to go to work and we kept eating a little more. Then we left to go to my hotel. I envisioned Nanning to be more modern, but it was a foggy rainy day, so maybe I just haven’t seen the real city yet; however I can see why they call it a green city. There are flowers everywhere. I think it probably is going to be a beautiful city with all the color and green exotic plants. The hotel is rated a 5 star, and the price is 85USD per night. It’s nice but I don’t know if I’d give it a 5 star rating, but the price if right and it’s clean, so I’m not complaining.
Wendy will be here at around 7pm. I don’t know what we’re doing tonight yet. I am the first westerner she’s met. That would explain the shyness. Pretty girl and very nice. If this goes well I might not make it to the agencies in town. That’s okay with me, because I am tired of the dog and pony show. The language barrier is going to be the big problem as I can see it now. I hope it doesn’t end up being a deal breaker for me. My patience will be put to the test. I can see that now, but keep seeing that pretty face just might make me stay in this lol.
That’s all I can think of now. Will post more as the days and events happen. By the way it is still raining steady. Kind of reminds me of those military movies that take place in jungles of Vietnam. It’s only right down the road probably an hour away.
Jeff
Oh how could I forget. Wendy greeted me with a Chinese ornament as a present. I wish I would have followed through and brought her something like I was going to.
-
Hi Jeff,
I'm glad you made it well to Nanning! You went empty handed? Wow I wouldn't dare, but that would also depend on how long you were writing to each other I guess. Good luck with Wendy, but if you do have time go and check out that agency for the other brothers in need here, ok ? :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:
Enjoy yourself, enjoy Wendy and keep us posted!
Cheers,
Frank
-
No gift for the lady!! Ummmm.....IMHO you may want to rectify that in some way. Maybe slip out somewhere and buy her something. Or take her shopping and let her pick out something nice. (within reason of course, ha)
I'm sure you will figure it out. Good luck and hope all works out for you.
Don

Great update Jeff. Glad to see you made it there safely. Thanks for all the details, I nejoyed reading this so far. Looking forward to your next update.
-
Jeff,
i would try to get to know her before making a decision just based
on not speaking english. its tough at first but i have to freinds in the
states and after 2 years they cant get their wives to shut up and they
could not speak at all either. who knows she might just be a terrific
lady like the two my freinds married

Great to see you made it, if you're staying a while or going back I can highly recommend the 7 Days Inn group of hotels, something like 350 across China, I've stayed in about 5 different ones and for the price $20 US ish a night you get a clean decent sized room with air, tv, good bathroom & free net but you'll need to get someone Chinese to book it for you as they don't have a western website yet & if you join their membership for about 14rmb & book on line you get a huge discount and your own key which they will re configure for you at each hotel to keep permanently.
Enjoy.
-
Great story Jeff, hope there is more updates to come !
Cam I never heard of the 7 Days Inn, I see there is several in Guangzhou and one right beside Beijing Street which is a great location. I'll definitely keep that in mind for future visits.
I really don't get people spending more than maybe 30 euro or so on a hotel room in China - that gets you a nice room, with internet, air con and a good hard king-size bed. I only plan on sleeping there, any extra is just wasted cash that i could be spending on having a good time out in the city with my girl.
-
and a good hard king-size bed. I only plan on sleeping there
I guess the rest of us know how to put a good King sized bed to use.
-

Some of us don't need to brag, it goes with out saying! :)
-
www/7daysinn is their western site, some of them are not licensed to have westerners ( I found one in Shanghai) but yes I find spending a fortune on a hotel a complete waste of money, I only sleep there and if I'm lucky do a bit of shagging, I don't need a pool or a heated sauna just a nice clean room with helpful staff, nearly always someone on duty that speaks a smattering of English and they will usually book you in on the reception net so you get the discount lol.
Lets face it, you spend 129 - 149rmb at 7 days or 500rmb at a fancier hotel & you're blowing a good 350rmb spending money every day.
P.S. They all have WESTERN TOILETS so no crapping in a hole under the shower where you could easily snap an ankle.

Hello all.
Let me first start off to say that it is STILL raining here. It has not stopped since I last wrote a couple of days ago. I had to change socks yesterday from my feet getting wet lol. The rain is relentless. Glad I brought an extra pair of shoes lol.
I didn’t write yesterday, because by the time we got back to my hotel I was too tired to write. It was a good day yesterday. I finally got another Chinese cell phone. I left my old one in a taxi in Beijing last month. It was a cheap one I got a year ago on my first trip to China, so it wasn’t a huge loss. I regretted losing almost all of my contacts I built up over that time in that phone. I’m still pissed about that. We walked around the mall on my recommendation, because I felt bad that Wendy gave me a present at the airport and I had nothing. It ended up being yes you guessed it skin cream lol. They live for that stuff. Had a brunch and sat at a coffee house and used the Besta to communicate. Later we had dinner before using two tickets she picked up for the theatre. We went a see Avatar with our 3D glasses on. It was the second time she saw it and wanted to see it again. Really good movie, and in 3D makes it even better. I would see it again myself.
Really nice girl calm personality with a nice sense of humor. Very respectful of me not spending much money. Restaurants have been low cost, and I had to twist her arm to let me buy a present for her. I had to insist on it lol. At this point it doesn’t appear she is in it for the money. I misunderstood her about her career. She’s an accountant at a clothing company. I might have posted that she was a fashion designer. That is an indication of the miscommunication, because of the language barrier. That is one glaring minus I have to decide if I have the patience for. It might also be because I’ve been spoiled by my last relationship. It was nice dating an English major LOL. Learning about each other went way more quickly. Today she wants to take me to an Exposition related to business. Don’t know quite yet exactly what that is, but will post it on my next letter. Oh did I say that it hasn’t stopped raining since I landed in Nanning? Lol
Tomorrow I have to go to Shenzhen to take care of business issues. While there my plan was to visit two agencies there. Plus there are two women I’ve started writing to from the agencies. I will try to meet them if possible. I also would like to stop by a bar where I used to live in Shekou at the Coastal Rose Garden apartments. Many westerners there. He’s from Chicago and has a nice little place there. Made some friends there. Then the plan is to return to Nanning and visit the two agencies here. They have been expecting me and are probably wondering where I’m at. They know I’m in town, but don’t know I met Wendy from CLL. The situation is relatively fluid so the plans with the agencies are not set in stone yet. I can tell you this that Wendy is 32 and looks 22. I wish she knew English a little better. There is so much I want to say to her, but I have kept it simple.
Any advice would be welcomed as always.
Cam – I couldn’t find any 7 days inns in Shenzhen. I went to their website and didn’t see a locater. I also looked on Ctrip and American Express travel and came up with nothing. I would find it hard to believe they don’t have a presence in Shenzhen of 9 or 10 million people.
That’s all I can think of now
Talk to you soon.
Jeff
-
Oh, i just checked the weather forecast, and you might be surprised to learn that it is going to rain some more. Good to hear you are enjoying yourself.
-
I've stayed at a 7 Days in Shenzhen 5 months ago, it was either149 or 169 per night and from memory there were at least 2 to chose from, try getting someone to call either 400 777 0777 or 156 2222 7777, they are the phone numbers on the back of my key, you'll find nothing on the western web site, try these web sites, they are also on the back of my key...www.7daysinn.cn or wap.7daysinn.cn.
The one in Nanning is 129, it depends on the size of the city and the location as to the price.
Hope that helps. Make sure you ask for membership as soon as you get there.
Oh and if you do manage to find one get whomever books it to write the exact address down in Chinese & be prepared to hunt for the sign & keep asking the people near where the taxi drops you off if he doesn't take you directly to the front door, if you stay at the one I did it's down a driveway behind some shop fronts...most are the same for some reason.
-
Thanks for that Cam. I'll check into it. I knew they had to have at least one here. I remembered seeing one in Guangzhou in August and it was tucked away like that. Maybe their low price brand is tied to buying space like that. Just a guess.
Yesterday in Nanning was a good time with Wendy. It continued to rain, but got a reprieve now and then. We spent most of the day at a scenic resort park above the city walking around in the rain with our umbrellas in 47F/8C. I think the name was Qingdao. I took a picture of the sign, so when I download the pics I’ll send the name again. I’ll also post some of those pictures when I download them. Man it was cold and wet, and had wet feet for three days in a row lol. We visited an old Buddist Temple. Some of the art work was beautiful. Still well kept. We continued to walk through the park and visited different monuments and buildings. Sorry it is a little of a blur of what exactly what they were. Part of the language issue. It was a nice a relaxing time just walking at our own pace communicating and using the translator. We saw a lot of exotic plants and flowers. It pretty much ended at what looked like a big water park and picnic area with a lake. We stood at the doc with a bunch of people feeding the million gold fish in the lake. Good simple quality time together. We went to eat at yet another great restaurant. The bill was about $15 lol. I can’t believe how good we ate for such a low price. Roasted duck heated in this hot bowl, a whole fish, and this big pot/roasting skillet with broth that was also on a hot plate that kept it boiling and duck kidneys or liver lol and Wendy put in different greens and let it cook down a few minutes. It was like vegetable soup with I think was large leaf kale and green onions. My god that was good. We then went to a coffee house and used the translator and just relaxed and talked. We then went back to the hotel and she went home. Nice girl and it might turn out okay, but I have learned not to put all my eggs in one basket. I am not sure about the communication difficulties yet. I have other women to meet, and want to see how I feel about it. At least if it doesn’t work out then I know I represented westerners well, as she thought I have been a gentleman during the entire time. So her impression of me is good. I am her first contact with a western guy. I told her I would return to Nanning while here.
Today I arrived in Shenzhen and am ready to get a few things done tomorrow. The most extremely unusual situation happened while at the hotel. I was here for only an hour. After putting my bags in the room I’d thought I’d walk around the hotel to see where things were. In the lobby I ran into my brother who I have not seen for 3 ½ years. Of all the places to run into him it is China and in a city of what 9 million people and a million hotels. I had to stay at the one he was staying at. He was talking business with a few Chinese, so I know he is now doing business in China lol. There has got to be a message in there somewhere. My jaw hit the floor. While here I plan on visiting a couple of agencies. Moonlove, Oriental, and maybe XinYuan. I’m also going to look for an apartment. I come here enough it’s about time I do this.
Until next time.
Jeff
-
You ran into your brother?? WOW! You should go out and buy a lottery ticket.
-
That is something to run into your brother who you havent
seen in a few years about 6000 miles from home.
Sounds like it is going well there in Nanning with
Wendy.
-
All I can say is: It's a small world ... I ran into my best friend in London in the crowd during the Queen's birthday parade, and a few years later in San Francisco airport ... we were on the same plane to Paris
-

Martin I thought the same thing. Maybe my lottery will be finding my new girl lol.

32 - 8200 miles but who's counting lol.
Yes it did but if the chemistry was 100% I wouldn't be keeping my options open. I'm going to let this thing play out and see where it leads me.
-
Great read Jeff . Now go and do some more ... as I'm watching closely what you say . haha
Forget the Brother , hope you run into the one that makes you say " I DO " .
-
Arnold thanks for the encouragement. It is appreciated, and if I do run into "the one" then I will be full-go, however I'll have to remember Maxx's advice on "slowing down" if I run into something that feels right.
Not much to report, as it was all business today. I will say that it was frustrating working with a financial institution today regarding what one person says as compared to another. This isn't the first time I've run into this situation, so it wasn't a complete surprise to me. I haggled for a good 3 hours on what the home office told me prior to my trip and what the local office was telling me, then when an agreement was reached I had to go to another office to process it as they didn't have the means to carry through with that particular deal. I really had to sit back and just laugh about it. This country is growing so fast that the policies outpace the training of the employees. Everyone is simply not on the same page to their own policies. Ultimately it is a good problem to have in this country. Better than what the alternative could be. I could go on, but you probably get the gist of it.
I went through City Walk today and Coco Park mall/stores. Both have prices what you see in the west. No bargans at those places that I saw.
Tomorrow looks to be much of the same. If I can squeak a visit in at one of the agencies I'll report on it. I think the first agency I want to visit is the one who recently sent me two mails without a reply in between from me. I didn't put a complaint in as I knew I was coming to Shenzhen. So I will be able to ask Cindy (the translator) point blank why that happened. Bet that doesn't happen much with the translators haha. They are so insulated from those types of things because the guys are many thousands of miles away.
Sorry for the boring report, but I am here for business too.
Oh this is for Cam. You are going to like this one. This morning I had the taxi driver take me from my hotel (Four Points) to the Sheraton in town (only about a 5 minute drive). While driving there I casually look to my right and see a sign on a building that read "7 days Inn". I just had to laugh to myself. I couldn't find them online until you mentioned it in an earlier post. I keep running into strange events lol. Now as big as Shenzhen is what are the odds I would just drive by a 7 days Inn? This has been an interesting visit to Shenzhen and I haven't been here a full two days yet.
In addition to just running into strange events. I have another one. I get back to the hotel, and decided to go into the bar and just have a glass of wine before I went up to my room. A guy and his colleague are sitting there working on their laptops. It turned out that he is from a city not far from where I live. He's been living in China working for his company for the past two years. There were some common things that we were talking about.
This kind of stuff is happening rapid fire. Almost everytime I turn around something strange/familiar happens LOL. Martin I think you are right. When I get back I will buy a lottery ticket. The planets are in alignment, but I better watch for lightening strikes too lol.
over and out
-
Great update. You do seem to have a lot of odd things happening! Maybe you don't need to buy a lottery ticket. Maybe your grand prize will be a wonderful woman who you will get to spend the rest of your life with.
-
Talking about the Lottery . Anybody winning a Jackpot that is a Member here , is under contract to foot the Bill for a Forum Reunion Party ( in a City to be determent yet ) . Anybody trying to ditch after winning will face the consequences .:@
-
Martin,
Better still, ...A shit load of money!!
That's using the Logic, ...You stand a far better chance of finding a Good Chinese wife, than you will of winning the Lottery!! ...So better having best of both worlds rather than just the one!!! Lets face it, ....Finding and winning the heart of a Chinese woman is best left to your own endeavors!!! Oh!!, and the money will come in handy too ....hahaha!!!

HaHa told you there were a couple there, I've found that as far as organisational skills go the Chinese couldn't organise a fcuk in a brothel, the girls in the office at the school/agency I work in are incompetent at best, they expect you to be a mind reader amongst many things.
Last week I was examining kids at a school in Beibei, they didn't tell me to write down the questions on the e-mail they sent me because the printer had broken down so I turned up at the school with nothing, luckily the hotel they organised for us which only changed the sheets once a week no matter who lived there (never been in anything so disgusting, pubes in the bed.... I kicked up hell when I got back) was close & I had my wireless laptop in the room so I raced back and got it, then the next morning I'm waiting out the front for my assistant to be there at 7.40 as arranged & nothing, I ring head office to see where she is & she's at the school, stupid %$*# didn't think to tell me she would meet me there, this is only a small sample of the stupidity I've come across in the first 2 weeks of being here.
-
Haha it's good to have a Chinese lady take care of all the stupidity for you. Like the hotel in her home town, the fridge was broken and there was no hot water and the Internet was down, so she went and fixed it all for me. In fact she thought the hotel was rubbish and I had to stop her finding a different one for me.
KFC running out of chicken, now that was the wierdest fcuk up that happened to me :icon_cool:.
-
Every time I've eaten KFC here I've had the trots, I think it may stand for "Kill Foreign Capitalists"
-
the kfc's are bad here i think. all 3 times it was for me now i stay out of them
better to buy a live chicken and make your own.
Cam -- mind reading is a prerequisite here in china or its chaos all
the time. just my observations living here all these years

Tell me about it. I have been through the frustrating stuff like you and number of times. I pretty much have become numb to it except for the other day when I was haggling over the accounts. At times I probably was talking loud enough over the phone that the entire bank could hear me lol. I spent 3 hours in that bank to open ONE account. My God.
-
Hahaha!! This brings back many memories, and is quite common not only in China, but throughout South East Asia, especially in Korea, Japan, Vietnam. I've found that it's basically a language thing, even though you are talking to a person that speaks/reads English well, they are often completly lost understanding the content of what is being said to them. Being proud Asians, they will not admit that they haven't understood you, and often nod the head as if to indicate they understand.
Having been caught out too many times with this head nodding, i no-longer take it for granted as ''understood'' and will emphasis my meaning till i'm satisfied they ''Have'' understood. When you hear, a long Arrrhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! you can be pretty certain the penny has dropped!! ...haha!!
Organisational skills, ...Yes, again i agree!! They can quite often add one or two levels to a simple tasks. I'm sure it's because they want to get things right the first time, and not to lose face in front of a foreigner or the Boss. Also, if it involves money, ....in this part of the world it requires god knows how many signatures before anything is set in concrete. There not used to doing anything quickly at the best of times, which can be bloody frustrating to the Western way of doing things..... Even more frustrating, you can't rush them either, if you try, it takes even longer to get something done!! ...lol!!

Ted,
Do you have KFC'S secret recipe of herbs and spices??
If so, you can share them with you Bro's, ...Right!!! ...hahaha!!

I haven’t written in a couple of days, so I thought I’d give an update.
I’ve been involved with work during the day mostly. I did contact Chen Yan and we met at a Starbucks. I did to discuss a couple of issues related to business with her. She met me after work, so since I was taking her dinner time away from her we went out and had nice dinner. She knew a place in Louhu Jia Ning Na Plaza, and the food was really good. Thanks Yan for showing me that place. I would return. I found out that I am officially the first member on the site that has met Yan in person. I hope this doesn’t embarrass her, but I have to say without question that if I could make a deal with the devil and shave 15 years off my age I would be trying hard to win her. She is very beautiful and has the personality of an angel. She is so calm, gentle, and intelligent. How do I say this? It is very calming to talk to her. She is a diamond. I can’t believe she hasn’t been discovered. Once she is discovered I predict she will be off the market quickly. Whoever wins her heart will be a very lucky man. And I’m not kidding about that or her being beautiful. She is. Hmm beauty, intelligence, and a personality to match. Does anyone have the devil’s phone number? LOL I did ask her if it was okay to include our meeting in this update and she gave me the go ahead, but she didn’t know what I was going to write haha. Sorry Yan if I embarrassed you. You are most deserving of finding your true love.
Yesterday I was able to do a little clothes shopping. I went to Dongmen Shopping Center where the Chinese like to go. Not as high pressure as the other place just down the street. Can’t remember the name. I wasn’t in the mood for high pressure yesterday as I was tired from being out late the night before haha. You can haggle down things, and the place is big. I only needed a couple of things so I got what I was looking for and left. I had a date to get to lol.
Speaking of this date I was on for two days. I got sidetracked by hormones I believe. Let me explain. When I came back to my hotel later in the day I got on the elevator with three pretty Chinese women. They were on their way to the dancing bar that had a live band on the sixth floor. I was supposed to get off the 5th floor and walk through the hall to the other tower and go up to my room on the 27th floor. Well one of the girls was a 12 and I had to say something to her. She gave a nice reply and the eye contact was right lol. Now these were not street girls by any means. I missed my floor, and I had to stay on the elevator and go back down to the 5th floor lol. I went to my room and dropped my bags and went right back to the bar. I was just pulled by this girl. Can’t explain it. We spent the rest of the evening talking and closing the bar at 2am. We met again for dinner last night and spent the rest of the evening in the same bar until closing. Thank goodness for my Besta 7000. Without it I would not have been able to pull this off lol. I am a sucker for beauty and she was a 12. Not a 10 and dressed to the nines. When we parted she wanted to go with me today. I have been looking at apartments on this trip. I didn’t contact her to go with me. I’m kind of nipping this in the bud now, because she’s quite young. She’s 22 years old. I hope she doesn’t call me looking for me. It was a moment that took me off of my plan. Now if I could have that look and add just a few years then I’m full go assuming of course that the personality traits are there.
I am deciding whether to go to Nanning or to Beihai first. I check out this Saturday, so I need to decide. There is Wendy to go back and see, but there is also Qiao that will be in Nanning by the 4th of February. Both women are from CLL. Hopefully I will make it to P608 Nanning Ouyan, but like I posted on another thread their service thus far has been poor. The jury is out of them. If I had to grade them today I would give them a big fat POOR. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt at least for me to meet them in person. I have my friend in Beihai who I’ve been talking to on MSN for awhile now. She really has been a big help regarding my last relationship and explaining how Chinese women are. You’d think at my age I would have this down lol. It is nice to communicate with her because she can both write and speak good English. When on MSN we mostly talk on the computer, and my daughter loves talking to her, but I keep telling her that she is only a friend.
Edit for an addition: I found out the Xin Xin agency is in Futian. I am in Futian. I will try to go by there tomorrow. Also I think the Moonlove agency is in Louhu.
That’s all for now. I’ll update more later.

Jeff,
maybe you said in other posts and i missed it but what type of
business are you doing in China? just curious ?

Education business

maybe a little more so than some areas just a thought
-
Ok Jeff, I think I know where we're meeting in SZ, hehe 6th floor? :icon_cheesygrin:
-
Frank - You can't have her. She's all mine. HAHA
I have a confession to make in regards to my last post.
I went down to Shekou tonight to stop by a bar where I used to live. A guy from Chicago owns it and it's called Cheers lol. Popular expat area in the Rose Garden Apartments. I wanted to go see a couple of friends there including the waitresses and eat western food for the first time since I've been here. Really super sweet girls. Fun to talk and laugh with. Well my idea of nipping it in the bud actually worked against me. Since I didn't show interest she was on the pursuit. What's the saying from that author about relationships? One of his quotes is the person who shows the least interest in the relationship holds the power. His research had to do with American society, and not necessarily of China. She text me and asked what I was doing, and I simply text back and said "In Shekou". She asked if I was coming back, and when she heard I was then she asks me can I see you tonight and will you come to the bar. She's at the bar with her sister watching the live band (which is good by the way) at my hotel. What am I gonna do, lie? So I gave in again and met her there and we closed the bar. I just got back. This is the kind of stuff I'm trying to avoid. But she is a 12 the other little voice in my ear kept telling me. By the way her sister is 32 and very sweet and has got game too with her looks. Sorry if I'm acting a little silly here. Jiao Jiao and I have been drinking this French wine for three nights straight now. I am not a drinker anymore, so it's taking its toll on me. We are planning to spend the day together tomorrow. My god someone save me. This was not in my plans. I need to shake this off and get my bearings again. Back to the bar in Shekou. I was sitting next to a guy from New Jersey. I was explaining the text messages I was getting from Jiao Jiao. He laughs and says (his girl who was sitting right next to him) they have been living together for two years he is 47 and she is 25. I just had to laugh.
-
Brett, If you have found a fridge repairman, a plumber and a internet repairman, you are very lucky. Now if she does electrical, and repairs cars and comes with a tool belt....marry her now!....:icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin: plucking chickens is a plus...ha
Jeff, yes Chen is an angel
If I ever get to china, I am sure if I meet Chen, she will keep me out of trouble.
-

HaHa.....................You mean I wasn't a drinker!!
One of the guys I work with is in his mid 40's and has had a stunning 19yo g/f for the past year.............they were made round to go around so go for it.

Haha,Frank, You are houmous also.
Jeff,I forgot to tell you,Some of the girls working there would like to ask the customer for tel and would like to "help" you no matter they know you bring your girlfriend there everytime,How brave ! And if you go to "xx bar" in Shekou, the hunter there are more younger...

Yan, I'm not as proficient as Willy though.
Jeff, Yan is right, I was going to say, 2 sisters, 23 and 32 (hmmm 9 years apart, single child policy in China, well not entirely impossible, do they look alike at least?) unaccompanied in a big Western Hotel, that might not be a coincidence.
Use the hotel safe to be sure!

They both have different Fathers. No not much resemblance if at all. I'm well aware of the game that can be played. I never said my girl was marrying material haha. I already saw the red flags, and proceeded accordingly. I play the game right back. I got game too haha. Anyway I already nipped it in the bud last night. I wouldn't get serious with a 22 year old anyway. The maturity difference is too great. One thing I do know is they are not one night-type prostitutes. For example my girl goes for the bigger ticket of travel or wanting to take English classes. She might be a 12, but I'm not going to pay the big ticket haha. Last night we had dinner and we went to see Avatar (again for me), and parted ways. That was my big ticket.
Now I was naive last summer with my ex. I went into this China thing that way. I proceeded to get burned by a Chinese princess (as DavidSo refers to them). I had red flags and didn't act on them. It won't happen again here. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me, or Watch what people do not what they say. I just hope I'm able to see the real thing when it is in front of me. Been burned twice in two years one american and one chinese. I said to myself three years ago that it is time to take some chances with love. The upside is obvious, but the downside is it can tear you up inside. It took me several months to truly get over my last one.
But Yan yes I hear you, and thank you for watching out for me. I do appreciate your concern/insight. You are a good friend, and in the future maybe I can ask your advice if your willing. I don't proclaim to know it all. I found that out last summer haha.
-
SOunds like you have your eyes open, exellent news. Avatar? I'm going tomorrow, haven't seen the 3D yet :p
-

3D is a must.
My eyes are wide open for sure. Oh I could just be a player here, and it is tempting. There is a lot of beauty here, but when I fall I lose interest in that beauty except my girl. But until then I am still single, and quite frankly I'm tired of trying. I'm just going with instinct and where the light on the path takes me. Funny though the path that was lit the last time lead me to a stunning 12 LOL.
I know one thing. I 'm not settling for someone just to be with someone. It needs to feel right...and look right lol.

Update since Jan. 28.
I leave for Nanning today to visit the two agencies there, Wendy, and perhaps Qiao who is moving back to Nanning from Germany. Both women are from CLL. Wendy is a nice girl, but without the English and only by besta 7000 it is proceeding at a snails pace. In my defense she lead me to believe that she knew some English, but that is not the case at all. Qiao at least can text with me on MSN, so I know at least she can write, but I am assuming she can speak it too. I'm fairly certain she can. If I am still there I will see her, but she arrives on the 4th and needs to get settled in to live, so it might not happen on this trip. I can't get a straight answer from her, but I think she is moving back from a failed relationship. I don't think it was a divorce, but you know sometimes you can't get straight answers from Chinese all the time. I kind of wish I didn't commit to going to Nanning, because I think between the three agencies here, and just living here I think I could have success, but I promised the two agencies I would visit them, and there is a business idea I want to talk to the owner of Yibang. We've emailed each other several times, so I have a little communication going with her, so for business purposes that is a reason to go. I will still honestly look at their databases and see what comes from it. By the way he Oyuan agency (608) is picking up the pace as far as service goes. The trans. sent me a profile yesterday and appears ready to help. That is a positive change from before.
In my last update I also talked of going to Beihai to visit my friend, but over the past couple of days it has taken a strange twist. She is acting like she likes me now, but she is only a friend to me. Anyway at the beginning she told me I was too old and she didn't want to date a man over 41 or or 42, so I changed my mindset and we became friends. She really helped me understand what went wrong in my last relationship and understanding what makes Chinese women tick. She also has talked to my daughter on MSN. They grew to like each other, and my daughter wanted me to like Yeyan, but I kept reminding her that she is only a friend. I would talk to Yeyan in the morning U.S. time, and then my daughter wanted to talk to her, so they would end up talking for long periods of time. It ended up being a girls club with those two. I didn't mind it. It was cute listening to those two and plus my daughter was learning Chinese. She's pretty good for a 7 year old. When I think about it maybe that is where I went wrong. Those two became close and now Yeyan likes me and doesn't want me to go to Nanning. She is a nice good looking 24 year old girl that can speak and write English, but I just don't see her in that way. So on qq yesterday she got mad and told me we won't talk anymore if I go to Nanning, and to take her off my contact list. Now I know Yeyan well enough she doesn't mean that, as she has pulled this little temper tantrum before when she doesn't get her way. I actually was attempting to fix her up with someone last month. She is ready to settle down and marry. She would give 110% to who she is married to.
I made my reservations in Nanning until the 4th, but it is a fluid situation. Like always if I feel that chemistry then that date changes. I will fly back to the U.S. on the 14th, and return at the end of Feb., or the first week of March. At least I know I have to live in Shenzhen for business purposes, and at this point leaning heavily on the Futian district. It lies between Louhu and Nanshan, so it is a good place geographically. If I don't find a place for an office then the second choice would be Louhu. Plus there is more happening here than in Shekou. Shekou for me is too far outside the city center. Maybe a lot of ex pats, but I'm not here to live close to ex pats.
That all I can think of now. Sorry for not a lot of substance, as it relates to this site.
If anyone knows the address of 606 - Xin Yuan Xin Yan in Shenzhen let me know. I got the addresses for the other two agencies here from a thread in the "ask an experienced member" section. Thanks
bye for now

Sorry for the delay in responding to you. I saw your post, but forgot to respond. A senior moment? haha
Oh yes Guangzhou is on my radar for sure. Not only ESL but other programs I'm developing that have a huge demand.
-
Jeffm-,
living in guangzhou i have seen a huge market for ESL which if done properly
would be very lucrative here for someone. i have attended many of the schools
here to observe and my first impressions from the visits are not very good. i
think that the market is wide open for someone to expand and develop. would
like to speak with you on one of your visits here or when you relocate about
this market.
-
Okay 32 that sounds good.
I'd like to talk to you about the possibilities. You are plugged in there, so you have a feel for what is going on.
Yes I've seen the same thing on the first impression when walking into a school whether it be for Chinese or ESL. I will say that Wall Street does it right and the plan is to deliver it much the same as they do. Very professional but relaxed at the same time. Not too cold an atmousphere.
-
looking forward to it when you can manage to arrive here.
pm me and i will give you my cell phone. tues, wed, sat, sun
i am booked solid with sat,sun all family time only so i hope
we can arrange a time

Update in Nanning.
Okay I might be off the market. I met someone tonight through the 608 agency, and my translator Castle might have pulled through. I went into their office today. Castle wasn't there, but she was on her way. Another girl and I sat in the membership office with a second girl. She pulled up the girl's profile. Castle already sent a profile and her Chnlove pictures the day before, so they knew I wanted to see natural pictures. This girl was telling me that Joanna (my girl) was prettier than her pictures. I'm thinking to myself yeah right. They already look good by professional photography. So she showed me natural pics, and she passed the look test on photo. I thought okay that issue seems to be taken care of. She then took me over to the translator office, where they all sit and do their dirty deeds to us guys lol. Bunch of nice young people in their early to mid twenties. All women except for two guys all in the same age bracket. All had smiles and were really nice. Two of the girls were pretty nice looking maybe three, but who's counting lol. I would guess there were a dozen of them. They have more, but work different shifts. They are open 7 days a week. Their office is on the 18th floor, and it isn't the greatest working office. The translator cubicles are tiny as h*** that would challenge the comfort of a chinese body. Really small. The two offices in general were not the cleanest, but I'm sure the lease was a good price. I found out from Castle that Yibang Rose 512 just moved into the same building, so if anyone is going to visit both agencies it will be a piece of cake. Outside of visiting Yibang for business purposes I might be off the market if this works out between Joanna and myself. That includes the Shenzhen agencies I planned on visiting when I return there. I told you my situation was fluid, and timetables could change. This might do it. It is early, but I am hopeful. I'll steal a line from Cam in another thread that Joanna is perfection on legs. Castle and I met her at a restaurant to have dinner. She was sitting on a terrace, and while we walked toward her I could see from 50 yards away she was nice looking. We get to the table she stands up to greet us, and I'm thinking "oh yeah". She's 32 and looks 22. Now we sit down and the first 15 to 20 minutes I was stammering and nervous. I'm thinking to myself get a hold of yourself man lol. The 12 I met in Shenzhen didn't do this to me. For me that is a good sign. Hell it was work again to use chopsticks. That's what this girl was doing to me lol. She has the intelligence to go with the appearance. She teaches business courses in a vocational school in the morning, and in the afternoon goes to her clothing store/shop and runs her business with the help of her mother. The girl has a business mind, and I love that. The downside is she doesn't speak English, or so I thought. Later during the dinner Castle had to do to the bathroom. Joanna starts to speak a little English to my surprise. She knows more than what I thought she did. Could be a confidence issue, or didn't want step on Castle's toes. I don't know. I remember her profile on Chnlove some months ago, and I kept her in my favorites for a long time, but never wrote. She didn't hesitate to put me on the spot and point that out to me. I had to think quick for a reply lol. In truth I have at least 50 women saved in my favorites lol, so I just didn't get to her. I didn't tell her that LOL. In a way though I'm glad I didn't, because it didn't cost me a penny to meet her. Boom go directly there and meet. That is the conclusion I came to in regards to writing letters and getting bled to death financially.
She wanted to know if I wanted to meet again tomorrow, and the reply was obvious to me. Oh by the way I was settled down and relaxed again. I was back in control lol. Got my game face back on. We're going somewhere. Where I don't know yet. I didn't care. Then after some time passes we talked about renting a car and driving over to Beihai (about a 2 hour drive) the day after tomorrow. I was actually the one that wanted to check out real estate there. So the next two days are planned. By then I should have a pretty good idea if this is it for me. We have common interests, and she does have a business mind although she did say that she is not interested in being successful just a good wife. Kind of a contradictory statement, but she might not want to give the impression that money was a driving force in her thinking. She is ready to find someone it appears. I had to ask the question why no guy has taken her. She said she doesn't get that many letters from Chnlove. This is the only area where my past experience kicks in and I'm thinking please the agency would have to be making money on her. I can't be nieve, so I hope it's not a play on me. I will sniff it out if it is. But so far it's looking good.
It has been nice to be here with no rain. The temperature has been 75F. Now that I can venture out without an umbrella like last week I have to say that there are a ton of beautiful women in Nanning. I went to the mall, which is very close to the office, and my jaw was dropping the whole time, and the thing of it is they love western men. Jeez.
Oh when I checked in last night a young guy at the front desk was cool. Spoke English well, as we talked for awhile he wanted to take me to a couple of bars. I asked if one of them is Soho, and his reply was yes and the one next to it called the bird's nest. Reading this Cam? I laughed and said I heard about the Soho, and he said yeah many nice girls there I can introduce you to lol. At the time I said I'm in deal the cards. Now I'm not sure if I will make it, but it sure sounds tempting lol. I have to keep reminding myself I'm not here to play. Anyway I wouldn't envision meeting my future wife in a bar. I can tell you that if the place is anything what I saw at the mall or on the streets then it's got to be a good place. Everyone I've been in contact with are friendly in this city. Is it that they think all westerners are rich and want a piece, or are they just this way? Something to ponder.
-
Yeah that pub next door has nothing on the Soho but the drinks are 5rmb cheaper, not as friendly for some reason either but make sure you go to both as it is worth the experience, best time to get there is around 11.30pm so you'll have time to say goodbye to the lady then head over, prime yourself on a few 6rmb big bottles first, you'll save a fortune.
They say the Chongqing women are the best in China but I don't think they are a patch on the girls in Nanning but they both crap all over the girls in Changsha, after spending 3 weeks there about 6 months ago I rarely saw any that were over 35 that didn't look like they slept in a bath of brown vinegar every night whereas here, Nanning, Shenzhen & Shanghai seem to have a good proportion of nice over 35's........not that I really want one that old haha.
I finally got my 12month residence permit approved the other day with unlimited exit/entry........pity I have to stay employed here to keep it.
If you're thinking of starting a school send me a PM.
-
Hehe Jeff, concentrate :D
-
my residency permit doesnt require me to work??
i wonder why? because im married maybe?
-
Jeff must be off the market, no post for two days ... :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:
Are we still meeting in SZ or are you stuck in Nanning?
-
I just came back to Nanning from Beihai and Fangchenggang with LiNa and the translator about an hour ago. I'm too damn tired to make my post lol, but will post tomorrow.
I will make it back to Shenzhen, but waiting for the boss's, I mean LiNa to let me know what we're doing next lol. She's very organized. My guess is a few days.
-
Haha OK, going well then? Wrapped around her finger?
I'll land in GZ first, SZ then a few days later I guess, but it's a bit in the air ...
-
sounds good so far that its working out well
-
Going well so far yes, but not wrapped around the finger haha.
So far I planned to check out on Sunday the 7th, but not sure yet if it gets extended a day or two. I do need to finish some things in SZ, so I will be back there.
-
hows all that traveling around going at this time of year?
probably masses of people at the airports
-
Ted I think so. My flight to Nanning from Shenzhen was delayed for over 2 hours. Maybe it was because of the air traffic, but Shenzhen airport does need to be expanded to support a 10 million population.
-
my god i just had a long post to update my trip and it just dissappeared. Mods is anyone else having this issue or is it just my computer? I will try again another time. Hello all
I did try to put a post up a couple of days ago, but as I was finishing my information just vanished into cyber oblivion. It took the wind out of my sails, and wasn’t going to start over at that time. No word back from the mods, so I assume it must be my computer.
My last main post was a week ago now.
February 4th and 5th. In the morning trans. and myself went to LiNa’s clothing shop and met her and her Mother. Very nice lady and I think she approves. So I passed that test lol. I bought a few things for my daughters and then we left. LiNa and the translator then went to Beihai to look at apartments. LiNa knew of some places to look and she has a friend who also was able to show us a couple of places. The drive to Beihai was good. LiNa rented a car for a couple of days. Her driving sucks lol. I can’t tell you how many times she did things so out of the ordinary that blew my mind. If she made some of the decisions she made in the U.S she would have been pulled over New York minute. One example was she accidently got off of an exit and then stopped. Now she didn’t pull over and stop she just stopped lol. I had to look back to make sure there wasn’t a car going to ram us in the back. She then puts does a U turn on the exit ramp and starts driving back onto the expressway instead of backing up or just getting off the exit.. A van was exiting and all I could think was omg I hope this guy slows down so we don’t have a head on collision. He’s flashing his lights and honking like “what the h*** are you doing”. That was just one example and I’ll leave it at that, but I think you get the gist of my meaning. The expressway was a toll road going to Beihai and periodically we would come up to a toll booth. She would hand over the card that was given at the beginning so they could scan it and tell her how much to pay. The interesting part of that I found out is when they scan that card it also measures the time it took to go from one booth to the next. If you arrived at the next booth too soon then they would give you a speeding ticket. If you were 5 to 10 mpg over the speed limit then you pay a 200rmb fine. It keeps going up the faster you go like any other speeding violation. Just a little of the big brother control this system has. I really don’t like that. LiNa did say the people with money don’t care and will just pay the fine at each booth. The drive and scenery were nice and most importantly we got a lot of communication in. We arrived at Beihai late in the day, but were able to take a walk on the beach. Nice beach with silver sand. Went to a big old restaurant close to the beach. The seafood was outstanding. I guess it should be, because what you have to do is look at the many aquariums and pick you dinner, so obviously the dinner is fresh. We went into town and walked through an old street in Beihai with bars mostly. Sleeping at night with the sliding door open and listening to the waves gave me the best sleep I’ve had in a long time. The next morning we looked at several apartments and villas with her friend. We went into town and ate more seafood outside at this restaurant. Again great fish of all kinds. We then drove to Fangchenggang to look at properties that LiNa said we priced even better. Newly build places also on the coast. Took about an hour to get to. She explained what the government plans on doing with FCG. Apparently they are going to build it like they did Shenzhen 25 years ago. It has already started. The grand plan is that what Shenzhen is to Guangzhou is what FCG will be to Nanning. We then drove home. Got back late about 10pm. Really good time and I was able to see LiNa’s personality.
Feb. 6. Back in Nanning LiNa and I spent the afternoon after her work hanging out and went to watch Avatar again. I have now seen it 3 times in 3D. I’ve had enough. The Chinese love that movie. The next day we hung out all day walking around. Her Mother made her take a dumpling rolled in big leaves. She spent a few hours making this and against LiNa’s wishes she made her take it. So that is when I knew that I must have her Mother’s approval lol. We ate it in my hotel room for lunch. It was outstanding. Sunday was pretty much the same. We took a nice walk around Nanhu Lake. It is a park surrounding the big lake. It’s a quiet place in the city. It doesn’t feel like you are in the city when in this park. One thing about Nanning and China in general they will live in smaller simple places generally, but they care about having nice parks. I’ve been to several in this country, and you can see the investment they put into it. It is an important part of their culture. Nanning has really grown on me. I like that city very much. It not the gigantic over populated city that Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, and HK are. Not too big, and not too small. Just the right size for me, and there is enough to do. With about 5 universities here there are so many beautiful women. All I can say is wow. If you live in China you don’t need Chnlove, CLL, and Blossoms. You can just meet them during the day. I left Nanning Monday the 8th. LiNa and I keep in touch now on qq. She only knew a little English when we met, but it seemed like her understanding of the language got better each day. Intelligent woman. I let her keep my Besta so she could study with it while she was at work or at home, but had to take it back when I left. Hey we don’t know if we are a couple yet, so don’t call me cheap haha.
About P608 Nanning Ou Yuan Information Consulting Services Co. Ltd. – They have about 270 women in their database. My feeling is they will try to match you up with a woman, BUT they did not have any of the women available that I asked about. The reply was that they are either talking presently with someone or the age difference is too great. Both can be true, but I doubt not one of the several I listed were available. On the other hand some of those women don’t exist and are the ones they make a lot of money on. They are nice to deal with, and will go through the database with you to look for women that interest you. The trans. was very helpful, but I could read between the lines that she was out to make the score. She was doing her job and the nice part, is she is just being professional, but make no mistake about it she is out for success which means money, and in her words makes the agency look good in having successful marriages. The business is what it is. The more marriages you can do the better it makes your agency look. Nothing unlike in any other business. After softening her up on the trip to Beihai she flat out said that she would not be as accommodating if she thought two people were not going to have success in marriage. I don’t agree with that approach, but that is her way. She’s considered a veteran in this business. She’s been doing this work for over two years. In an earlier post I mentioned that the agency doesn’t charge their girls for meeting a man, however when I was alone with LiNa she told me that if she told the agency she was happy with me then she would have to pay 2000rmb. So there is a catch to the “no charge meeting”. It does come with conditions for the lady, so naturally I told LiNa to tell the trans. every time she called to see how LiNa felt to tell her that she still didn’t know, because it was too early. She told me that the agency charges 27000rmb for marriage. I can’t recall what she told me about what the initial membership fee was. She pulled her profile back in November out of impatience really. She only joined in July. I will ask her what she paid initially.
Today in Shenzhen I planned to go to P606 Xin Yuan Xin Yan but I decided against it for now. They didn’t have anyone I was interested in. It appears their database is small. I might visit if I don’t have any luck with the others. Sometimes they have women who are not on their list through Chnlove.
I did go to P670 Shenzhen Moonlove Information and Consultancy Co.. They have close to 300 women in their database. A bit difficult to find and it is right in the middle of the rat race in Louhu district. On the 12th floor the office is simple and small much like the office in Nanning. I saw about 12 to14 translators. I met Cindy who was translating letters for me before and most recently to two women. I met and sat with the owner and talked a while. Initially I sat with Cindy and told her why I was there. She kept trying to get me to keep the communication going with one of the girls I was writing to, but she lives in Baoding, and I told her that it was turning out to be too impractical for me to go there. I kept trying to tell her I want to see the women in Shenzhen, and she kept trying to keep me in the loop with the girl from Baoding. She tried to tell me that writing a few letters are best to see if the woman wants to meet. I spun it back to her that the girls will send the guys admiration letters by just looking at a guys profile, so I said the same thing can be done here (Oh and by the way the agencies can see when you place one of their girls in their database into your favorites. That is why you will all of a sudden get an admiration letter). I am in Shenzhen now and show them my profile if they are interested then we can meet. I went on to say that a man and woman don’t know if they have chemistry until they meet in person. I said that if their women are serious for marriage then they will want to meet me. I should not have to write letters first if I am here now. She finally relented and agreed to show me profiles in Shenzhen, but first I wanted to talk to the owner. I asked earlier to talk to the owner and when he returned we went into his office along with Cindy. His name is Peter and his English is limited. I would guess he is in his thirties. Nice guy, but also a businessman. He seemed sincere in their philosophy of finding matches for marriage, but I watch what people do not what they say lol. I asked Cindy earlier if they charge their girls to meet a man, and she said they don’t. I took this with a grain of salt, because of my experience with 608 in Nanning. When I asked Peter the same question he said they didn’t, but it could have been selective ignorance of they don’t charge the man. Chinese are good at this, and I’ve seen it before, so again I read between the lines. I followed up with how much they charge if two people get married. He danced around this question at least three times and the last time I asked he said that they leave the decision up to the couple. Now I know he was talking sh** now. I asked him to elaborate and I received rhetoric with a follow-up laugh. Earlier in our meeting he recommended I find someone within about 15 years of my age. I told him thank you, but I know what I want and the gap is a little more than that. After our meeting Cindy and I went back into the office and sat at a computer and went through their database. There was only one girl I was interested in, but she was engaged according to another translator there. I say according because I didn’t feel like they were totally honest and want to tell YOU who to match with. I didn’t like that feeling. I will admit I am pickier than the average person. I am sure many guys would like some of the women in their database. So I was left with the girl I was writing in Baoding. They said they would call her to see if she would be interested in flying to Shenzhen to meet me. We will see how that comes out. I asked who pays for her to come, and they said if she wants to meet you she will pay for it herself. I highly doubt this will happen, but Cindy said the girl is sincere and likes me. We will see. Personally I would be shocked if she wants to come here.
In summary I would not trust the Moonlove agency. Cindy was a sweet passive girl, but some of the other translators I could tell they would take your EMF money in a heartbeat. The owner wasn’t as forthcoming as he should have been. He shouldn’t be hiding what they charge for marriage. What I read into that is it is based on how wealthy a guy is and will charge accordingly. Again not good. I also didn’t like how I had to be insistent on seeing their database. At first they were reluctant to do so. If they are truly into it the right reasons then they should welcome you to look on the first request not several. The good agency in Changsha would have offered their database to me before I would have to ask.
The Nanning agency I would trust a little more, but you CANNOT be naive guys. They will take your EMF money too. If this doesn’t work out with LiNa I would return there. I would have liked to have pressed them about the other women. I will talk to the trans. more on qq and try to get more information. The other girl in the office was sincerely helpful too as the trans. was with LiNa. It was her first recommendation to me after the other women were not available. So she hit on the first one. That was good. If you ever work with her make sure you get what YOU ask for and not what she or any other translator thinks you should have. It is about you and your happiness. Do you think any of them would care if you ended up in divorce, because you married who they said you should marry? You decide.
I think that brings me up to date guys. Happy to visit these agencies for the team. Tomorrow I will visit the Oriental company here. I have a bone to pick with that translator who shot two mails to me in a row without my reply. I want to see the look on her face when I confront her on that.
Until next time
Jeff in Shenzhen

Jeff, First for the disappearance of the post? It only happen once and it was an admittance of the poster of making a mistake. So I couldn't give an answer. I have no idea what happen?
Toll Booth, Obviously you never driven the eastern seaboard of Interstate 95. In New jersey for sure they do the same thing. Your given a card and the time is stamped on it. Going to fast? I don't know the outcome, I always stop for coffee to kill the time so they don't get me for speeding.... Suckers. :icon_biggrin:

Okay 32 that sounds good.
I'd like to talk to you about the possibilities. You are plugged in there, so you have a feel for what is going on.
Yes I've seen the same thing on the first impression when walking into a school whether it be for Chinese or ESL. I will say that Wall Street does it right and the plan is to deliver it much the same as they do. Very professional but relaxed at the same time. Not too cold an atmousphere.
Hi jeff,
I actually visited the 3 top ESL schools some years back to propose some business deal. That would include Wall St amongst others. I would say the other 2 were quite paternalistic or condescending, and I speak good Chinese + English. You are right, you or me can easily do better than them.

Yes to tell you the truth i really think it is my computer. This would happen doing a letter in Chnlove, so after one or two loses I learned, but got complacent doing the letter her. I don't think I'll make that mistake again. I had to do some venting after spending a good hour on it, well it felt like an hour lol.
I did not know that about the eastern seaboard. Stopping for coffee is fine to kill clock, but if you are trying to make time then you can't. I've been saying the past 10+ that we're getting more socialist by the year, so I am not shocked.

Hey 007,
I visited Wall Street here in Shenzhen. They seemed to run a first class operation, but I have to say the recruiter was condesending. Took me by surprise. If my recruiters did that I would correct it with them or they would be gone. How much revenue can be lost by that attitude. I smell complacency. lol

The trip on the NJ Turnpike is only a few hours (2 I think with that system?). It's about 1100 miles from NY to Florida I've driven it many times, more then I have fingers and toes? In cars, trucks, whatever. So that short time on that road traveling is nothing when stopping for coffee. Not even drinking it there but on the road is enough to throw the time off. Have the same thing down here on the Florida Turnpike. But nothing is done if you clock in sooner then.
-
i just got off of qq ing with my Nanning translator for the past couple of hours.
I did find out about the list of profiles and why I didn't hook up with any of them. She told me that I have a keen eye lol and picked their most popular girls. They are looking for a prince with money haha. Some didn't like the fact that I did not post my income in my profile. So there you go. These are the Chinese princesses. They're not looking for marriage, but looking for dare I say a surgardaddy? They are out there, but it shouldn't be surprising. Oh and one more thing they don't have to pay a membership fee. These girls make them money, and many letters from around the world come in for them. I wonder what percentage would they account for of the total EMF revenue. Hmm.
-
jeffm,
What sort of age range are you actually looking at there in China??
David....
-
Yeah Jeff they're out there. Some agencies pull this off but at what percentage of them? I don't know. Besides, I NEVER gave my income from the start. Keeps them away... :icon_biggrin: I could stay right here in the US and get that all day long.

Actually jeff, I met the Wall St guys in Beijing. The top brass were all Americans, and did not put on any airs at all.... long story short, they actually offered me some sort of nice post, for which I am grateful, but wasn't my intention at that point of time. They were also very open minded in discussions, and can think out of the box. The stuckup ones were New Oriental and Global (although I had moles planted on the inside). The Principal of New Oriental Tianjin is a pompous scumbag. The Beijing top managers are okay, but not into rocking the boat.
-
Wall St guys? I knew a few. My cousins husband was one, left it years ago. Another was in the movie "Trading Places" on the stock market floor standing right behind the actors, short guy blond hair. I always laugh at that screen. Just I knew him well.
-
jeffm,
What sort of age range are you actually looking at there in China??
David....
Hey David
26 to 32
007
Actually it was the recruiter. The GM is an Australian and didn't come off that way. I talked to him a little. He was professional and forthcoming with information of their school. The manager was also professional the same way. A Chinese/Western woman. Both gave a good impression. I bet they don't know the recruiter comes off in the way I mentioned haha, but it will filter to them eventually. Especially if her numbers are not making quota haha. Yes I'm also familiar with the New Oriental school in Beijing. I didn't get a chance to visit Global while in Beijing.
Today my plan is to visit the Oriental agency here. I'll post what I learn from them.
It's called "taking one for the team" here.
I really hope the information I gather helps everyone and most especially the new guys. They are the ones who can get taken to the cleaners so to speak. I came into this largely naive, and took my lumps, but learned a lot from it. I could have saved some money if I was on this site earlier last year.
I need to start posting some of my pictures.

jeffm,
There are a lot of those ''Chinese Princesses'' in that age range, especially those that have never been married, and are under 30. I'm sure there parents want to unload themselves too and as quickly as possible ...too much of a drain on the Bank of Mum and Dad!! ....haha!!
Best of luck to you!!....
David......

Yes I bet when their daughter gets into the second half of their twenties the parents are looking for an out haha.
So you are the one that coined the phrase "Chinese Princesses"?

I just came back from visiting an agency.
Shenzhen Oriental Love Consulting Co. Ltd. - I was greeted by their team leader who listened to why I was there and immediately without hesitation took me into an office where we sat down and we went through their database. I felt very comfortable right from the start, and never had the feeling that they were hiding something lol. She answered all my questions. She wasn't exactly sure how many women they have in their database, so I tried to help her, so I said "300, 400, 500?", and her reply was yes she believes so lol. She did say she wasn't exactly sure out of wanting to give me an exact number more then anything. They have about 20 translators of which only about 6 or 7 were there as the others are away in other towns with their families, so if you guys have not recieved a letter reply from a girl in this agency then that is why. They are short staffed and will be until after the holiday. They are open Monday thru Sunday from 9am to 6pm. They get a ton of letters as she said they are always crazy busy. By looking at their database I could see why. They have many beautiful women. I didn't even finish as there were too many for me to write down. I didn't have to stay there very long. Regarding the fees they charge. Just recently she said they don't charge the ladies an initial membership fee and invite them to look through the Chnlove site and thier own web site Eastloving. If they are interested in a guy then they can meet them. If they like the guy then they kind of leave it open ended for them to pay the agency something. She said generally they charge the lady about 7000 rmb to sign up. She said they stopped charging for a marriage and leave it up to the couple of give what they feel is fair. She did say they do charge for using a translator in town. She said it is 200rmb but I would guess that would be per hour. Not really sure. I was surprised about their fee charging and asked her about that and how other agencies charge a lot more. She said they have been in the businesss 9 years and have learned that they actually attract more ladies and more business with their fee structure.
Outside of the good agency in Changsha this agency most impressed me. I would highly recommend this agency and the Nanning agency 608. I felt like I could visit this agency any time. That's how it should be.

I think it would beneficial to create an agency reviw thread without free posting, maybe only mods who could collate individual reviews, a one stop shop for newbies so to speak. What do you think guys?

Yes, good idea. That is why 2 days ago I created one based upon my ongoing "experiment". But I invite all brothers to post freely. I consider this a sort of Wikipedia effort. Or in honour of Willy, Willipedia. 2 other threads also existed but are closed to new posts by the mods, with periodic summaries.
But why no free & open posting? I would say, details of why a good or bad rating was given would be of interest to noobs. Sometimes, like in the case of Rob, a case study will be very helpful because it may not be clearcut whether an agency was innocent or guilty.

Yes true, but the threads become long and messy. This forum is a goldmine of information in many domains, but the information is always cumbersome to find. Another solution would be a forum section specific for agency reviews with one thread per agency ... where everyone could post freely ...

thats a good idea Frank. but based on dealings with the agencies directly not from
meeting your lady. you know emails direct to them or visits to them. (agencies)
talking about were you met your lady is frutal as some have met a good lady at an
agency that isnt the best. and if someone gets a writing from one of the poor agencies
then maybe reply; im sorry but based on the agency you are with i decline to write you
as they are not of good standing with our rating system. just a thought?

I met Frank last night. In fact while I was making my last post he called to let me know he was in the lobby of my hotel. His taxi driver must have special skills because he made it to Futian from Louhu pretty fast and right when rush hour was starting. I was going to include in my last post that we were going to meet and give Yan a call to have dinner with us, but didn’t have the time thanks to his great taxi driver lol.
While sitting in the lobby talking we both had the idea of giving Yan a call to have dinner with us. The three of us had a nice dinner in Louhu. Frank was a bit giddy over his most recent meeting that I’m sure he will share with you. We laughed and good time and gave our own accounts of agency experiences. After dinner we walked around talking and then we walked Yan back to her hotel. Frank and I then sat at a starbucks outside and talked about our own experiences of China well past midnight lol.
Yeah the agency review list would be good. What I post about my first hand experience inside an agency might be contrary to another feeling for that agency. I say "feeling" because maybe that person had a bad experience at the agency with a translator or even a woman. If it is merely because a woman now then emotions are dictating the decision of that individual as the agency then is not at fault. Emotional decisions are what will skew the results. Personally I stayed objective in my posting about the agencies I visited. I really had a bone to pick with the Oriental agency, but quickly found out it wasn't as bad at that agency as I thought. Now I could have been emotional about it and tore them up but I didn't. The Moonlove agency was the one I thought I would like, but I didn't like the way they operate so I tore them up lol.
The agency review will be good, but IMO it needs to have a sliding approval score or something that can move/change over time.
This is about the new guys. All the agencies in China are not bad. You might not like the business model, but on the other side of the middle man (chnlove) there are a very large number of good genuine women. We just to keep getting more efficient how we can meet them or write them directly as soon as possible. Chnlove wants a lot of EMF's and we want as few EMF's as possible. There are the other sites without the "middle man" such as CLL and Blossoms, but most of the time the players on that site vastly outnumber the legitamate ones. On Chnlove the number of players are much lower and mostly the reason for that is the ladies have to pay fees. Personally if I send out 10 letters I can reasonably expect one reply. That is a 10% hit rate which is not guaranteed either such as Chnlove.
In summary I would call it pick your poison.

Ted set me straight what you meant, but I was baffled as to why you made it until I looked back at my post and saw that I wrote "walked you back to your hotel". I misspoke/written it. Sorry about that.
Your last point of "when I bring my seller" to China. I don't get that one lol. After that I'm good. lol

Hey guys
Have been doing some work and staying in touch with Li Na. A little development happened yesterday in my communication with the translator and Li Na. I was talking to the translator on qq. Li Na contacted her on qq at that time and asked the translator for a translation of which she then asked me what I was trying to say. Long story short I told her that was not mine, but it must be from someone else contacting Li Na. The translation was referring to “compromising the relationship”, so that is why the translator was asking me for an explanation. When she determined I was the wrong person to ask she gave me an apology for the mistake. Now I don’t know if the translator truly made a mistake or was playing dumb and letting me know what was going on. She has become a friend of mind, so I know she plays it straight with me. It intrigued me, so I qq’d Li Na about it (she didn’t know the translator told me this) and asked if she contacted the translator for a translation. Li Na’s reply to me was “no”. That was an eye opener. Then she texted back and said “oh yes” after a pause from her previous answer. She then went on to tell about the contact she got from a guy who has been writing her, and trying to send her a gift. Several days before she was to tell the guy that she is seeing someone else and please don’t send any present, as it is her birthday tomorrow. She thought I might be mad about it, but I told I was not, but I know where we stand. So you see why I keep my options open? I am not saying this will not work out with Lina, but as I said before I learned not to put all my eggs in one basket. As time passes if it works out with us then I will want to marry her, if not then at least I won’t be starting over like before. She felt I was not jumping up and down over the event and sent me an email explaining fully the situation. It seemed to be a sincere letter, so I accepted her explanation and we are not talking about that anymore. We’ll see how it plays out. When I initially found this out that day and learning from my past I immediately called up the Oriental agency and asked if she would contact one of the girls we picked out when I visited. Long story short the translator emailed me to let me know that one of the women could meet me the same evening after she left work for the day. So I met Nancy over in Louhu and we went to have a dinner. Mind you I have not sent one letter to this girl. So no EMF money spent lol. Anyway her English was just good enough but not quite totally, but I still had my Besta that I kept when I left Nanning. I would have been kicking myself if I did not have it with me, but learning from past mistakes is paying off. If you’ve read my previous post in Nanning you would know I almost left it with Lina. We had a nice talk and I found out about her family and her plans on marriage and children. She is a pretty girl also. Don’t want to leave that out lol. I think what I like about her most is that she is so calm. She just naturally puts you at ease with her personality. I really like that. That was two nights ago and I knew she was busy all day yesterday preparing for the holiday, so we were not able to meet. I don’t think I will be able to see her (if she still wants to see me) until I come back. I leave tomorrow. I left a message to the translator if she heard from Nancy and if there was any interest on her part. I have not heard back yet, but it is the holiday, so nothing is happening as usual right now.
On another note I have been in contact with a girl I met here back in August. I didn’t meet her on any of the services chnlove, cll, blossoms, etc.. I actually met her in a Starbucks one morning in Shekou. When I live here I am totally less dependent on the services and their games. I can meet people easily, so it isn’t an issue. I just moved into my apartment at the time in Shekou and I didn’t have a coffee maker yet, so I would always get up and walk about a quarter mile (as the crow flies) and get there when they opened. The Starbucks is in the sea world area. I am sitting in there by myself at about 7:05am relaxing and waking up with my coffee. This stunning looking girl comes walking in with her laptop and sits in a different section. So I went over and asked if she would mind if I joined her to chat. She accepted. She is from the Philippines and is a teacher over in Zhuhai and was off on a break for a few days. She spoke clean near perfect English, which was a relief. Quite intelligent. Had a very nice talk and stayed in touch through email and skype. We wouldn’t talk often because we had conflicting schedules so the connection was extremely fragile and could easily have went the way of never talking again at any point. We just didn’t talk much, but we still barely maintained our communication how little it was. We have been in contact on my trip a couple of times only because she went to Thailand with her parents for a couple of weeks. We both do want to meet again. I think she senses what I am that we have hung on this little communication and want to see more if this means anything between us. I don’t know why I kept in touch other than a couple of skype conversations of her telling me where she is in her life. Who knows could this be the woman all along and I just don’t know it. When I return we both will see if this means something or nothing.
I leave to go back tomorrow. This trip was not a failure by any means, but a building block to finding the lasting relationship that I seek. I am looking for that spark again. Like the one I had last year. I’m a little protective of getting emotionally involved. I’ve been tore up and as some of you know yourselves it is not pleasant. I am fortunate enough to be able to do it this way, and it is the best way other than living here full-time. To live here for long periods of time and integrate into the culture, one is able to really meet special people who have something to give in their own way. Not just women but people in general. Business contacts and the whole feeling of the culture. I hope to bring my 7 year old daughter with me this summer while she is off of school. I return to Shenzhen March 2nd , so I will only be gone for a couple of weeks. I plan on staying here for the entire month of March and a little of April.
I would have tried to post pictures of my trip, but my computer’s permissions seem to be blocking me. I don’t understand it, because I can send pictures in any other platform except this one for some reason. A phenomenon lol. When I figure out the solution I will do so if you guys are interested. I have many lol.
That about covers it.

One important side note that I left out in my summary.
The Brother that I mentioned I ran into at this hotel after over 3 years not seeing him ended up being an important meeting. We had a major falling out when our Mother died in 2006 and had not spoke since, and our Father died in 2004, so it was our last parent we lost. This meeting went a long way in repairing our relationship.... God truly works in mysterious ways.... The chances of meeting in a 10 million populated city in a 2 billion populated country are rare. I think the chances of getting struck by lightening or winning the lottery are better. It did make me step back and reflect on life....and the meaning of this unexpected meeting. There was a message in this trip, and if for nothing else a part of your family gets repaired then it is a good thing. He lives in San Diego and I will probably at some point go there to see him and the prospects of moving my home office there, in addition to the other cities I have on the list including Austin, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia.
