Title: dinner and fun 2- 27 -2010
Post by: ttwjr32 on February 28, 2010, 04:47:04 am
Hello Everyone,

Well there was another dinner and fun in Guangzhou among members here. My wife and i met up with Carnegie  (Sean) over at Shiaman Island
here which is were he was staying. We first met at Lucy's which is a very popular western restuarant here in Guangzhou. We had a lite snack
there, a beer and chatted for a little while. We then went over to Bejing road which is across the highway and is really old Canton as Guangzhou was called way back when. We proceeded to a chinese reatuarant and had dinner and loads of fun with 2 servers as you will see them in the pictures. I was trying to get them to marry Sean but of course they didnt understand a word i or we were saying except what my wife spoke to them about and the 150 words of chinese Sean knows. also my 3 or 4 words lol. But it was a lot of fun as we laughed our a**** off and had
quite a good time. Upon leavingthe driver made a wrong turn to Seans hotel onto a one way street so he got out and walked a few blocks back and on our way home which is about a half hour drive on a good day and no traffic he proceeded to take a wrong exit and after that it was on with my wife literally ripping his head off. She was nice but stern with his mistake with Sean so i guess he thought he could challenge her.
well needless to say he deducted off the fair 10 rmb which got us to 34 rmb for the fair and normally it is a 37 rmb drive so i guess we saved 3 rmb lol. The dinner we had 10 items plus the tea and it all came to 75 rmb and we were on the 4th floor of an original Canton restuarant from way back when but newly remodeled. Fun ight filled with laughter.

Ted,

I think you and your wife are fast becoming the Forum's official welcoming committee for Southern China... haha!!!

This is good, especially for those that have never been to China in the past. You can pass on some face to face facts and advise based on your own, and others there experiences....

Sounds Good to me!!!

David....

They do seem to be the official gwai lo welcoming committee, don't they?  Perhaps, if this job off I've got solidifies, I'll be the Northern China one. :)

As far as eating in Guangzhou, I think Ted and Sisi will back me up on this one, don't eat on Shamian Island.  It's *really* expensive here.  I ate at the German joint tonite for almost twice what it cost three of us last night at the buffet-esque joint last night.

Had much fun last night and it was good to speak nothing but English with someone which hadn't happened much in the previous two days.

Word of advice for those coming to China: if you don't speak *any* Cantonese or Mandarin, you might be in trouble.  I speak more than most gwai lo do and it's nowhere near enough.

No Chinese - no problem - If they do not understand I shout louder in English.

Probably know about 10 words more than I did when I arrived here in June 2009.

Maybe I can persuade Brett to come here and teach me what he knows.  I think if I taught him what I know he would really benefit from it.

Sisi and I enjoy meeting people here in GZ when they make there trip to China.
It is enjoyable to meet and speak english with the members and Sisi enjoys
listening to the stories about the meetings with their ladies and of the problems
with the agencies. I think next up here is Oiler as he is do into GZ soon.

now if someone can teach me how to resize the pics for here to post or when
i post that would be great. maybe i should ask Vince as he seems to work wonders
with the pics.  Vince can you resize these and then tell me how to do it in a pm.

Ted
Carnegie,

you did have the girls smiling with the words of mandarin and cantonese you were
throwing out at them. The restuarant wasnt a buffet but in GZ they have many
places that show the dishes that you can get on each floor. we were on the 4th
floor ad if you went to the other 3 you could get different foods. kind of unique in
that whatever your hungry for you go to a floor and see what they are cooking there

Dang Willy,  I almost ruined my computer drinking coffee when I read your post. LMAO.  You are too funny. Fortunately I turned my head at the right moment and it went all over the floor.  The first time I have mopped it since I moved into the new place.  I have experienced the talking louder and slower and more succinctly in Mexico.  I can imagine the look you get.  As they yell back in their language, "I do not understand the loud freaking white boy."

As far as the other comment?  Many have tried.  Good luck.

Ted, I am with Sean with the official gwai lo welcoming committee.  Just from reading what you are doing on this site I would like to second his nomination.  Everyone who agrees say "I."

30 days and counting.
