Title: How hard is it for her to get first Chinese passport?
Post by: Irishman on March 12, 2010, 02:00:39 pm
Sunny lives in Guangzhou but her home town is in central China.
She doesn't have a passport and she thinks she may have to go to her home town to apply for one.

So does every home town have a passport office or how is it done?

Can she apply though a travel agency for one in Guangzhou?
If she has to go to her home town, how long will it take to get the passport before she can go back to Guangzhou?

I'd really appreciate the answer to this if anyone knows, we are planning to go to Hong Kong for a romantic weekend next visit to pick enga[/u]gement rings out etc..and of course for the honeymoon and eventually moving to Ireland she will need a passport too.

Irishman   tell Suny to go to the PSB building which is by Haizhu square
i think its the 5th floor and they will help her or at least be able
to direct her. as far as hong kong she will eed her passport and
visa to go there which can be done online with about a 20 day window
before she recieves it. of course she will need her passport first to be able
to do that. have her call Sisi and she will direct her to the right place

Irish yes Sunny will have to go to her hometown to apply for the passport. She will also need her family book and her citizen card.It can take 2 weeks to 2 months.depending on the wait time.My wife says she went to the police station in her home town to get her passport.

As Ted said Sunny is going to need a visa to go to Hong Kong.If she wasn't born in Guangdong province. If she was born in Guangdong province she doesn't need a visa.

My wife applied for her passport 11 days ago but she had to go back to her home town in Hunan to order it.  It arrived yesterday by courier which was exactly the ten days they said it would take.  The Entry/exit permit to go to Hong Kong is due to arrive in another 10 days.

Willy,

That's about right, the Chinese can normally get a passport in 7 to 10 days, ...if they submit ALL the correct documents. It's just this crap about having to apply in your home town!!

David,

unless they are a citizen of the city they work in. Sisi has been in Guangzhou
and is what she calls a city citizen. she applied for that many years ago when
she bought her house. i think the only requirements are a good job with good
wages, medical, and a house they then apply for the city citizenship.

now she can do everything from here rather than go to baotao were she is from
and were here parents live. she came here for college and never left. just another
book she has here in China
