Willy

So Willy when you know what comes off.....Does that mean I'm a Wonkarette.....:icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:
-
How the hell did this become a post of it's own, it was supposed to be part of another post ???????????????????????????????? Maybe my computer playing tricks on me:huh:
-
Ahhh clever those computers....sneak right up on your data....lol
Wonkerettes are the small people who make the choclate, taste so good....now I know where the eggs are going.....:icon_cheesygrin:
Next thing you know there will be Wonka bars everywhere. God I'd
hate to see Willy Wonka bars stamped "made in China" :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:

Wonkerettes
The little people who made the chocolate in the Willy Wonka story, also known as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" were called Umpa Lumpas (or singular Umpa Lumpa)
-
How in heavens name did this become a thread in its own right. I have lost track now how we got on this course.
Is someone trying to clean up the forum - I mean do housekeeping on it?
Willy
-
speaking of Willie Wonka for those of you who are thinking of coming to
China i just want to suggest that CHOCOLATE makes for a very nice gift
for the freinds and family. I live here and i cannot believe how much these
chocolate makers mark up their product here. so chocolate would make a
nice gift because it is like a splurge for most people here to buy it not exactly
something they put on their shopping list but for the most part they do enjoy
eating it. just a thought:icon_cheesygrin:
-
I'd suggest you also bringing your own coffee, Italian spaghetti, breakfast cereal, margarine (seriously) & cheese because the stuff they make here is about as tasty as wax..........especially if you are going to a smaller region because Walmart won't help you much (it's Chinese).
Might actually be worth a new thread like this one appearing from nowhere about what is hard/impossible to find here and worth bringing.
I smoke roll your own ciggys and nobody here has ever seen them but they are as cheap as dirt on the internet i.e. 25rmb for a packet of Drum 50g & it's excellent quality English stuff, 10 packs + delivery (2-3 days) is 260rmb, I pay 150rmb at home for one pack.:icon_cheesygrin:
-
Cam,
so true as i have been all over China and your right in the smaller regions
there are few and far between things from home to buy. i am very fortunate
living in Guangzhou as i could get anything i want at different parts of town
and the prices are not to bad either. with the exception of chocolate, pistachios
and some ice cream. yes some might say 'but your in China' but i enjoy my uniqueness
and some of my family here are really enjoying the western foods i have introduced them
to when we cook at home.
its funny we have a movie night each week were we watch movies and make popcorn
and roast marshmallows while we watch the movies. well actually about every 10 days we
do this and now in between they are doing this with their neighbors and the kids just love it
when we have this night a really fun and enjoyable time had by everyone.
try this with your family and freinds if your living in China and even in the western parts
with your Chinese family
-
I think that this is a good thread. What woman doesn't like chocolates? It is an excellent idea to bring some with you as a gift. That might be a good idea too. A thread on what special things to bring with you to china. Things that are more commonplace in north america but hard to find in china. It would prove very usefull to someone that has never been to china.
David S,
The first movie was "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" I seem to think it was Marty Feldman that starred in it. I may be wrong. The re-make starred Johny Depp and was called "Charlie and the Choclate Factory". I never watched either movie but I did see parts of the original. My sisters watched it over and over... I think you are right about them being called Umpa Lumpas, at least in the original movie. But I like Willys name for them..... Wonkerettes. :icon_cheesygrin:
-
The first Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) starred Gene Wilder... Haven't seen the Johnny Depp one, but they say it's good. I liked the first one...just from the pictures, it sounded like a much lighter movie.
And they were called Oompa Loompa...
-
I've seen both & yes they sing the oompa loompa song in both also, Depp is fantastic in everything he does and like in Edward Scissorhand he plays a great part in this too, but much weirder than Wilders character. I hated it the first time but enjoyed it the second & third.
If like me you can't have caffine (palpitations) you definitely need to bring de-caff, the bloody MSG drives the old ticker crazy too & makes it hard eating here because they stick the stuff in just about everything.
-
That MSG is bad stuff, it's a heart killer. And for my money, Gene Wilder was a better Willy Wonka although Johnny Depp
comes in a close second. I like the orginal movies, because someone always thinks they can make it better. For instance
how about "the day the earth stood still" The orginal was the best, and they screwed it up with a very bad re-make. :@
By the way, who needs Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp, we have our own Willy Wonka right here! "trying to make the world taste good"
-
Darn David S. ... that Photo of myself and the rest of the Mod's and Martin was not to be shown here yet . Oh well .. at least I look good and centered .:icon_cheesygrin:
-
You look just fine Arnold....dashing and dapper....:icon_confused:
-
For my 2 cents, I still like "Wonkarettes". :icon_cheesygrin:

Isn't that what they would call the old corn starch candy cigarettes that they used to sell in the little boxes to look like a pack of smokes if they were made by Willy Wonka? I remember they even had red food coloring on the tips.
-
David S,
I remember them things, ....I don't know about there in the States, but in the UK, they were made by ''Bassets'' the same people that made ''Liquorice Allsorts''
I doubt if they are available now mind... hahaha!!
David....
-
David ... yes you can still get them....
Got some last week for one of my grandkids...teaching her young
-
I remember those, nice candy, used to eat a lot of them. My dentest recommended them (he needed the work..:icon_cheesygrin:)
-
I remember they banned the red tips here so they weren't so realistic but I doubt you can buy them now..... they were called Fags hahaha

In Canada, they call them "Popeye" cigarettes. As a kid in the 70's, I used to smoke/eat them. :icon_cool: It's still available.

THATS what they were called!!! I was struggling to try to remember what they were called! I used to get them too. I haven't looked for them for years. Me it was as a kid in the '60's. HAHAHA! :icon_cheesygrin: Now I have a memory of making tie-dyed t-shirts and eating those things on a hot summers day when I was a kid! Thanks for sparking that memory for me Chong. Damn I'm getting old!
Dave C
-
Chong,
I thought ''Popeye'' smoked a pipe!!! ....Well he did when i was a kid anyway...haha!!
But i think your right, ...pretty sure they were called the same in the UK too....
David.....
-
I even remember a supermarket selling "Popeye" brand spinach.
As a kid, my favorite cartoons were UnderDog, Bugs Bunny, Felix The Cat.
My favorite fighting heros were The Flash & Wonder Woman. When Lynda Carter played her character in the tv series ... Wow Wow Wow !!!

You could actually still buy DVD sets of those Lynda Carter series - all 3 seasons, or just watch online.

Not to break the thread, BUT, Bee that is the best avatar I have seen yet, can't help staring at it, and staring and staring, it is
hypnotic. I hope you didn't take that live...:icon_cheesygrin: as Shaun thinks why he didn't open the shade on his window on his
trip....haha lol

Rocky,
Got that in an email from a very good friend. It was entitled..."When it is ok to say the "F" word" Thought about using it for a desktop on the notebook for the plane. Don't think the people sitting beside me would feel comfortable enough to sleep on that long flight after seeeing it though!! Hahaha! :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:

Don,
I was in a drug induced state on the way over and on an afterglow on the way back. I wouldn't have noticed another airplane coming at us. I barely remember the food and movies. I did see avitar, then went to sleep. I think I may have halted avitar and took a long nap.
In the immortal words of a country singer, the name I can't remember, "I'm so lonesome I could cry." I have really been missing Peggy today. It's killing me.
Shaun
-
Not killing you as much as opening the window shade (window seat) and seeing that come at you. Even if it missed, you would
have had to stand in line for the restroom as people changed there pants....lol
I know how it is to miss someone. Don't worry, you'll be together soon enough...
By the way, since I have all your attentions: Today on CNN Headline news, China after paying a huge amount for a study of the country, Has found out that people are not
having enough babies. So there is a big push for people to have more children. Look out guys, now love is not all she wants...lol I'm investing in diapers in china...
Number 2, since the governor of Arizona signed that nasty law agiansed immigration, the government (obama and friends) are getting off their asses and reforming
immigration for everyone. Wouldn't it be nice to just show your drivers licence and get your lady here ?? or if your married, she can come right on in to live with
you with only a passport (and probably some sort of quickie visa). We will have to watch this one carefully. Thanks to the govener Jan Brewer of Arizona for signing
that bill.

Shaun
it takes time to NOT miss her, it will get better...:icon_biggrin:
-
You know, if anyone wanted to make some money, you could make those cut out widow shades with that printed on them.
for people flying who would like to have a little shade, also for cars, trucks, gosh just about anyone.
An idea was formed, remember you saw it here first folks.... :)
-
Willie's version of Umpa Loompas.....now called WONKERETTES... ::) ;D ;)
Just kidding Willie, we know your married...wink wink.....
-
Rocky...NOW thats my kind of Umpa Loopas... ;D ;D
Now if only they were Chinese :o ;D ;D

Rob,
So when is this NOT missing her begin to get better?
-
When you can roll over every day and see her beautiful smile looking back at you. When her smile is the last thing you see at night and the first thing you see in the morning.
-
The american version would be, standing over you with hair in curlers and a big frying pan in her hand, ready to give you
some sort of head trama, because you didn't take out the garbage last night.
The chinese version...standing over you, hair done up, frying pan in hand, ready to cook you some eggs and bacon. Has already
taken out the garbage the night before.
;) ;)
Rob, if you were buried underneath those Umpa Loompas, you wouldnt care if they were Russian, Greek or from lower slobovia, let
alone China...LOL
-
Shaun, since you were in a drug induced state, did anyone complain about you smoking that stuff in the Plane....LOL :o ::) ;D
-
I was smoking? I do not remember. I thought I took an Ambien.
-
Willie's version of Umpa Loompas.....now called WONKERETTES... ::) ;D ;)
Just kidding Willie, we know your married...wink wink.....
Just catching up on things. Especially things that my Wonker persona would love. 51 views of the picture. Ok own up who looked at it the the other two times.
Imagine having them all in bed at once! It would take me at least 4 hours to get them all tucked in.
Willy
-
Only 4 hours willy? We will have to change your name to "Willy Rabbit", unless your wearing a super-hero outfit and your
name is "the flash"... ;D ;D ;D
I think you would have to resort to "shift work"... ::)
-
My hat is off to you Willy. I would not know where to begin with those wonkarettes.
Dave C
-
Looks like a Chevy, never could carry their weight, I suppose he should ether get the wood hauling kit with overloads or learn how
to cut a tree down. Don't let a canadian play with a chain saw, get adult supervision.... ;D ;D ;D LOLLOLLOL
-
That is another one of those pictures from when it is ok to use the "F" word Rocky.
Dave C
-
Hung Chow calls into work and says, "Hey I no come work today, I sick, headache, stomach ache, legs hurt, I no come to work."
The boss says, "You know something, Hung Chow, I really need you today. When I feel like this, I go to my wife and tell her to give me sex. That makes everything better and I go to work. You go and try that."
Two hours later Hung Chow calls again. "I do what you say, I feel great. I be at work velly soon..........by the way boss ....You got nice house."
Willy
-
Why does that doll that got crushed have : "if found return to Willy" on the bottom...LOL LOL
-
Is it on the bottom or is it on her bottom? ;D
Dave C
-
Where do YOU think Willy had it stamped on her body.... ::)
This is the part where you the public get to see if you know the secret place where its stamped...go ahead venture a guess....
-
By the way, that doll is Willy's version of " Rent a friend " which is becoming popular. The reason the guy jumped out the window
is because he owed Willy "overdue" fees... ;D
