Title: Stuff to do in Changsha?
Post by: Irishman on August 11, 2010, 08:21:19 pm
We are going there after Zhangjiajie for a few days during the national holiday in October then taking the bullet train back to Guangzhou (totally looking forward to that!!!)

I know a few of you bros have been to Changsha so have you any recommendations to do there?
I read that The Biggest Chinese Restaurant in the World (http://chinese-food.suite101.com/article.cfm/the_biggest_restaurant_in_the_world) is in Changsha so that is a must but apart from that all recommendations welcome.

I figure we should be there for about three days.
So brothers, what did you like in Changsha?, any stuff that sucked there that you recommend to avoid?

Check out the provincial museum. There is a 2000 year old dead lady there.

That is a good place to visit. I love Changsha. Great city.

Ronan when we went to the museum , we went about 9am you line up for tickets which had a time on them , I think it was about 11.30 , so we walked next door to the Martyers Park for a couple of hours , but you could spend longer as it has a huge lake in the middle and lots of activities all around , and then went back to the museum for our allotted time , as they only let so many in at a time and have a guide with you to answer questions , was also very interesting and a couple of hours well spent , regards Sujuan and Robert .

Ronan,
climb Yuelu mountain, eat some stinky tofu, walk along the riverbank (both sides), catch some street opera, dine in one of the cheap restaurants, hire a boat in Martyr park, check out the vibrant markets, visit the Changsha Love Bridge agency (just for a laugh). If you have time, take a short trip south to Nan Yue mountain, one of the 5 sacred mountains of China, with its impressive temples. The best thing about Changsha is the ordinary, everyday life - it isn't a flashy city, but my best times there were just doing ordinary stuff, meeting people, sharing their hospitality, eating spicy Changsha food and walking around with my wife. Chairman Mao studied in Changsha, so there are quite a few places to visit related to that, though I didn't get round to it.

Which reminds me , Ronan , there is a day tour which encompasses a lot of Chairman Mao's life , including his original house , set in a beautiful park , and lots of interesting places including a nice lunch stop , regards Robert .

Don't forget to check out the old city.  It is somewhere in the new city.  It is a beautiful place.
