Hi guys. Do any of the Canadian brothers know of any satellite providers that offer Chinese programing? I know all the satellites offer Omni, but that isn't just Chinese...it covers a lot of Asian countries. Do any offer CCTV, or exclusive Chinese channels...preferably something more than just a news channel?

direct tv did that when i was home also dish network i think but i had direct tv

Dish Network offers CCTV here in the states. Personally I would stay as far away as I could from Direct TV. They are crooks. They promise all of this stuff including low prices. When you get your service you do not get what they promised and when you get your first bill it is at the regular price not the introductory and good luck getting it change.

If you had Rogers, you would have about 20 chinese channels (give or take) mostly from China (but there are a few from here) called the great wall package... Bell only has two - Fairchild (mostly cantonese) and Talentvision (mostly mandarin)... Starchoice has one (Fairchild)... Omni usually has chinese programming on the weekend...usually during the evenings.
One other possibility is this thing called kylintv. They've been hanging around the chinese supermarkets trying to drum up business... from what I can tell, it's chinese programming over the net (IPTV). Don't know how good it is, but I'll take a look later.

kylintv is ok it is not great Chinese TV,the way it works is you sign up for it.pick the package you want.They will send you a box.With a remote.you hook the box up to your TV and your Internet.Enter the code they give you and your all set.
If you don't have wireless Internet. You are going to have to buy a wireless router.Then call your Internet provider.To get them to upgrade your service.Then it should work.If the picture stops and freezes.Your internet isn't fast enough.You can either live with it.Or call the Internet provider.And tell them it needs to be faster.
4 out of 7 days.my Internet can keep up with the TV.The rest of the time it frees es up.I pay around 30.00 dollars a month.My wife has like 20 channels.Some in Cantonese.Most are in Maundering.

Maxx I see that this KylinTV is available in Europe too, how fast is your internet?
What kind of speeds does it need to be, I was looking it up but don't seem to be able to find a a good answer.
I have 30mb is that enough?

Irish 30 mb is fast enough.We run around 25 mb here.On a good day

It's not the speed that's the issue. It's the transfer limits. Good quality images take a lot of space...and here in North America, they're really clamping down on it... In Canada, the average is 60Gb (give or take) a month. After that, they'll charge you something like $4 a Gb until you hit $50...

I don't know if you have Dish Network32.99 there but there is a Chinese package for $32.99 than you can add to the package. If you already use a Satellite TV check and see if they have a special International package. The one Dish offered was called the Great Wall TV package.
