Well I became Big Dave from suggestions of some of the brothers here.  There were several David's and I am a large guy so
it made sense.  But always remember it takes a heavy hammer to drive a long nail!:D:P

Big Dave
Title: RE: Nick names for the guy's from us
Post by: Vince G on May 28, 2009, 11:24:46 pm
Well Dave as I remember it wasn't your body size but actually your photo size. It was cropped so you took up the whole frame. Which wasn't a bad thing but not to common so it was outstanding in a way. I could pick your photo out from across the room. :D So Big was for the photo. And it became Big Dave.

Title: RE: Nick names for the guy's from us

No problem. It related only to religion anyway. (father)
But I have to say, you can not take the bible word for word. First this was written many years after and to remember every word said 50 years or more later? Second the bible has been translated so many times before it came to english? Most words are not the same, only close to the meaning.

Moses had Honor thy mother and father. Jesus was jewish. For him to change the words of Moses? wouldn't happen. Look at it this way. If it was translated from chinese? It could have said, Honor thy horse and father?

It's debated whether Shakespeare wrote or edited the King James Bible? Either way it was written hundreds of years after. So how actuate are the words? Even in Shakespeare's days the english words meant different then today.

Post by: Arnold on June 15, 2009, 12:38:49 am
That's why I thought it was safer to call him Pastor Mike , because he is right , there is only one Father and we are all his Children . That's why we are all brother's and sister's . Now if we could only speak one Language and praise only one Father , how would the World be then ? But since this will never happen , we must find some other way to live in Peace . But that will also never happen , so what's next ? Each of us can lIve only with what we believe and make the best out of that . But since that 's never going to happen , we are in for some hard times , but to have the Lord on your side , made it alot easier for me . We start out in our little corner , but we can only spread our Love so far .
Sorry , I know it's the wrong Threat for this , but sometimes one just has to let go of some things .

did I miss something. How did this turn into a religiose thread
Title: RE: Nick names for the guy's from us
Post by: shaun on June 15, 2009, 06:37:35 am
I thought I would throw in my 2cents.  Vince, or hhmm, Uncle Fester, we would have to start a whole new website to discuss the origin of the bible and as hard as it will be for me, I will refrain from any other comment about it here.

But as I was reading the thread and seeing how Mike didn't like the Father handle I thought Friar Mike might be a good handle.

Just a thought.

Is this thread meant to be related to nicknames and to religion too?

We could say "Allez Louya" in French if someone would be called "Louya", but... it's not a name at all ^^
(in fact, everyboday know what is Halleluiah, right???? :D)

So....
Just one thing if someone would like to give me a surname or so on : it's not because I can like eating frogs and cows and cornflakes that I have to be assimilated to all that ^^

Well..
Let's see

Sylvain if anything your nick name would be Frenchy. I can't think of another name?

Mike and any others see you at the religion topic.

Mine has already been given by Bong and Dinger, Sarge.

OOOOOPs.:s  My mistake.  Thank Mike.  Sorry Martin and Vince.  I'm still trying to get used to all of the names and personalities in this community.  Forget the fact that I am old and my children say I am forgetful.  I can't remember their names either.

Again sorry for the nickname error.

Since I ride horses, own the hay burners, feed squabbling chickens, dogs that bring home god knows what and leave it on the doorstep, cats that think their dogs and often not only bring home dead things but leave them on the floor of the house as a prize to be shared with the guy that feeds them (suprize for the china wife), goats that will eat anything including the taillights off your car, a few crazed roosters that are strung out on viagra and a few cows that could care less if the sky fell and know only that the grass is greener in the horses pens, which leads the horses to think the cows are terrorests and should be locked up somewhere far away.
So, ok if you can think of a good one for me lets hear it.  I thought of "starvin marvin" because of my (ahem) eating habits which I picked up from the goats (eat anything and often) - remember there are starving kids in Africa so clean your plate (mom's quote) .  You should have fun with this one....:fi_lone_ranger::icon_cheesygrin:

or writting it under your name? (instead : Registered user)

Your right Rob , I alway's do hear those Bagpipes playing with my Ear's , wherever I go . But Fish and Chips are sometimes hard to find . Arnold, (1)

YOU Wish!!

MM,

France don't like anyone who don't speak French. So no problem!!

Mike,

Who the hell wants Ireland, .....It's more trouble than it's worth!!
Scotland had a bit more savvy than Ireland, they knew which side of the bread was buttered!!

Rob,

I don't know where you got that information from, If you ask people in most countries about Scotland, they wouldn't know what the hell you were talking about !! lol!!
The English are the most traveled nation per capital of people in the world, .... The Scot's just come along for the ride.  Yeah i have to admit about the louts who travel to Spain and thereabouts, but there are a fair few Scot's among them too. you can't mistake that Scottish drule '' I see you Jimmie ''  ...which translated means, ...another punch up comming!! ...hahaha!!

Arnold, (2)

We don't buy our tea from China, we tried it once and didn't like it. All or most of our tea now comes from India and the surrounding areas....
Now come on.... give me Fish & chips any day of the week over that drone of bagpipes, ...they bloody give me headache!!

Food for thought ..... That Tiny little country called Britain your all knocking, ...Had an Empire that stretched across the world, The sun never set on the British Empire. Remember,  that Empire also included America.
Hell most of Americas population at that time were British. Then you went and got rid of us, ...and let every tom, dick, and harry in, just like we did!! ....Look where that's all ended up ...hahahaha!!

David...

I don't know about being the best, ...but it does make you think, from such a small Island, It's language is the primary languge used in America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and as a Second language in too many counties to list. On top of that, it's used as a template for international laws and contracts, Is spoken by more forgein nationals than all other languages combined, and it currently has more people learning English as a forgein language, than all other languages combined. That little Island just off Europe, hasn't done bad for it's self when you think about it, ....has it??

Come on Willy don't let them talk aout England like that.

I am used to the English bashing now.   A few years ago it was the smokers who were the villains in films - now it is always an Englishman.

I am also old enough to remember when England ruled a good part of the world and it was only when King George decided to give independence to America that we were relieved of a mighty load of future problems.

We kept Canada a while longer but could see no possible use for the lands below it so we just gave it up. Of course we had to put up a token fight to make it look as if we wanted to hold onto it.  But that was just a ruse to get rid of it.

As for Australia and New Zealand well they were just too far to travel  to for afternoon tea.

But it always the same in this world, the previous servants attacking the former masters!

Willy

Then we get former Scottish gentlemen who decide that being south of the border is far better than living to the North.   And this was after we gave then their own Parliament,  but ieven that failed to entice many of them to return to the Highlands.

At least there are no Welsh on here to have a go at us as well.

And do you know why the USA was the 'best country in the world'  it is because we gave it a good foundation during our rule.  Now look what has happened!!!

You might be fooled by the Aussie flag on my profile...but I was born in Wales...so let me say that all you "other" Poms are only a mongrel mixture of all the barbarians and no-hopers from Europe...while the Real English people, the original Celts ,all decided to retreat to the West of the Island ...to get a bit of peace and civilisation !!!!

Even the Romans couldnt conquer us lot !!

Hey David5o, have you listened to an American lately? I won't call most of it English.

Willy, what are you talking about?, your Chinese.

From what the English say what was left after the Americas were founded was shipped off to Aussie land :icon_cheesygrin:, but then again, the English haven't been able to hold on to much of thier Empire.

MM,

Yeah he was funny in his day, ...Always Original!!
But we had quite a few Good Comedians, around that time, thinking of the ones in his era,  ... there was Tommy Cooper, Ronnie Barker, both just as good in there own right... Funny though, i can't remember any more names, but i know it was a golden era for UK comeadians for around 10 years...
Then there was the TV comedy series, you must of heard of ''only fools and horses'' , another was ''Till Death do us part'' ..you Yanks copied that one, ( think you called it ''Archie'' or something.) then there was ''Steptoe and Son''

Try Googling them, ...haha!! Especially the Only fools and horses movie length episodes that were released as Xmas specials every year. If you find them, look for the superman one, now that one was funny.....

David, for some reason today was a very easy day, we cought 3 bad guys today, I think it is because it was almost 99 degrees  here, to hot for them to be out running around so we found all three of them at thier homes we were done by noon today, woof woof, tomorrow should be just as good, it will be 101 they are saying, but I meant I have nothing to do while the wife and kids are gone.
