Title: Marriage question
Post by: Chad on December 29, 2010, 08:51:43 pm
My lady friend (Kerry) and I have discussed marriage a little. But we both want to actually meet and see what happens. I will be visiting her for a little over three weeks in March, she lives in Liuzhou. My question for those in the know is since I was married and divorced in China last year (2009) what kind of documentation do you think I will need should we decide to get married? I have the red divorce book from China. Do you think that will be enough?

Chad , I'm not sure .. but I would think you would need the Single Certificate from the Embassy all over again with Passport . But take the Divorce Book with you , but this might not be needed with the Cert. . Again , your Lady Friend will need to call the Registry/Marriage Office and ask this question for you and at the same time .. what she will need .

I would say the single cerificate from the Embassy will be needed to show that there was no other marriage following the divorce.  we all know how officials keep to the letter of the rules and regulations.

There is a form. Marriageability Affidavit. I cant remember where I got it but I have a copy if you need one. It comes from the consulate in Guangzhou.  Fill out the form and take it along with your divorce decree to the consulate. They will issue you a notarized copy to take to the Chinese marriage breau.
