Hey, guys and girls.
I am going to China soon and was searching the net for handheld English-Chinese translation computer. I found so many I am totally confused on which one to buy. Does anyone here have experience, like, can you tell me the exact type you use and where to get it?
I know there have been discussions about this here in the forum but I could not find it again, so it might be enough to point me to the thread.

Yes buy a Besta. But buy it in China. That is let the lady buy it she will have better bargaining skills.
If you check on Besta website you should find a list of all sellers.
I had a minor problem with mine and it was fixed and returned to me in no time and not cost even though it was more than a year old.
It will also help with learning the language as it speaks the words on request.

I used my cellphone one. It is an offline translator called "Hanpig Chinese Pro". It is available for android phones at least, that can use the "android market".
It could translate everything I wanted. And we used it a lot, especially when talking about more complex/difficult topics.

Google translate is available on the Android phone also.
There is a program called retranslate for the android phone that translates to the other language then back again.

How about spending less times on forums and more time learning each others languages and dialects!! ;D ;D

Thanks ... oh, my ... I don't think I will ever be able to pronounce Chinese. I started trying to learn Mandarin on my own with online lessons and it gave me an insight, but to speak the language is a whole other thing.

The google is what I use now. First off don't waste your money on ECTACO their stuff is crap and very expensive. I went a little different route. I bought a NETBOOK. Found one with a 10" screen for like $200. Now i had a really good translator and a full blown computer and it is really small. I did get the systran translation software for it. It was the only one I found the worked without an internet connection. And when you do have a connection it updates itself pretty regular

there is an App for Android called "Tourist Language Learn and Speak". It translates from English to Simplified Chinese and speaks the phrases as well. It seems very accurate to a Chinese lady. What else matters? Though I do wish for a masculine sounding male voice. But what the hell, you can't have everything.

Skip where did you find that app online?

Have a good trip Iceland starting today.
Just hope the Iceland Volcano does not close European airspace again.
