A Troll, an internet Troll

An occurrence arose with the word Troll. The question came up as to DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS? So this Poll was made and please answer truthfully.

The definition: What is a Troll (From Wikipedia)

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

A Troll is a mythical "nasty" that usually can be found lurking under Bridges, waiting to catch and eat unsuspecting Children....mythology that is about 600 years old !!!

The Internet has stolen this original version for its own purposes !!!!

troll

Cannibalistic Ogre from mainly Scandinavian Folklore. Hairy, longnosed, brutish and Bug-eyed, they may also have multiple heads or horns. They come in all sizes, and either burst or turn to stone when sunlight hits them. They lurk in gloomy forests and dark caverns, and especially like to devour small children. However, they are usually pretty thick and can be outwitted with clever tricks.
The Females of the species are generally kinder and more intelligent, but still fairly hideous.

Gretir fought one.
Moomins are nice versions.
Gonks are sometimes called Trolls
Billy Goats Gruff are well known Troll Slayers.
To get past one guarding a bridge, just tell them someone grossly fat is waddling the same way about half a mile back. Gets em every time.

Discribes the members of this forum perfectly. :P

1.
a. To fish for by trailing a baited line from behind a slowly moving boat.
b. To fish in by trailing a baited line: troll the lake for bass.
c. To trail (a baited line) in fishing.
2. Slang To patrol (an area) in search for someone or something: "[Criminals] troll bus stations for young runaways" (Pete Axthelm).

As in, trolling for a response.  But yeah, don't feed the trolls.  Blow them up with intense UV light. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLEo7H9tqSM#ws)

I love this...we could have used this a few times over the past few years.  Vince would have loved it when he was sparring with a few trolls from another web page.

In addition to the definition posted from wikipedia, I would like to add a second variance of the word.

Troll:  one who stays in a chat room and attempts to engage the members, usually female, in explicit sexual discussion.  This activity when participated in mutually is often called "cyber sex".  The act of doing so is sometimes referred to as "cybering".

As opposed to "rodgering"...only Willy will understand that (I think)  ;D ;D

Roger and Wilco David.

Or to give the correct phrase 'Rodgering by Willy & Co"   Ah Those were the days my friend.  I thought would never end - But alas they do.

Married life certainly has certainly put an end to that.  Still as they say 'Better late than never'. In my case it was much better it happened later. At least at the age I now am then I am confident of being faithful to the end.

Willy
