How long does it take for you to go through customs, etc.?
Hongping is picking me up at the airport, and she can't park and wait for me, so she is trying to figure out when to arrive. Any information on the length of time it may take would be very much appreciated. I'm arriving at Guangzhou airport.
-
Not sure about Guangzhou but I have never been held up going through customs and immigration into China. The longest wait if to get your baggage from the reclaim carousel.
That takes a while as the handlers have to go through the luggage before putting in the conveyor belt.....! :o
Just joking of course. ;D
I have seen someone off from Guangzhou and the hire car was not allowed to wait but found a place nearby to park but we did have a cell phone to call him on when we were outside waiting to go home. It may be hit and miss as she could drive round a few times and arrange for you to exit from a specific gate.

Completely un predictable when the plane touches down let alone how long to get from plan to the exit.
Customs is not the problem unless they are short handed. The problem will be in fetching your bags and whether on not they lost one (which GZ is prone to do). I'd say about 45 minutes if nothing goes wrong.
But there is bad weather air traffic backups and the like that would put you at the gate much later than expected. Fiona has at times waited 3 hours to get me.
Here is Fiona's suggestion . Discuss it with Lisa and see if she agrees.
Drive her car to the subway and park it in the subway parking lot. (lots of parking at the station in Shunde)
Then take the subway to the airport to wait for you.
Take you back to the car on the subway.
Fairly convenient I think. You?

Gerry, does the subway run regularly all night long? My plane is supposed to arrive at 11:55 PM.
If that is not a problem, I think that would be a great solution, for a number of reasons.
Willy... thanks for the information. I appreciate it!

Crap.
They shut down starting around 11:00 and are completely shutdown by 11:30
There's always an airport shuttle. I came in about the same time as you and Fiona always came to get me on then airport bus. Comfortable and air-conditioned. It is a private company not a city bus. I don't know how to catch them in Shunde but in GZ they are located behind the China hotel (marriot).
That could be an option. Park her car at the China hotel for a few hours. The bus ride is only about 35-45 minutes.
Fiona said that the Bus runs to all cities around Guangzhou but didn't know where to find the bus in Shunde. So I think that parking her car at the China hotel is a good idea.
WAIT ! Fiona said that if you buy her airplane ticket she will hand carry you to Shunde. hahahaha

My flight from Hong Kong to Xiamen is almost always delayed betweent 15 minutes and 4 hours, due to military exercises in our flight path. Apparently China has some issues with Taiwan. haha
Like everyone's said, the longest wait is to get the bags, depending on the size of the flight.

Neil, I'm coming from Seoul so hopefully I'll be fine :)

Tell Fiona her flight leaves Philly international at 7:55 AM July 12. ;D ;D ;D Also, tell her I'm just over 200 pounds.... I hope she can carry me 100 km to Shunde ;D

I cringe at the thought of carrying luggage on the subway in Guangzhou. I'd rather take a taxi and they do operate at that time of night.
But then again I've never been to the airport in Guangzhou. I understand it is quite a way out from the city.
When I go to Guangzhou I fly to Hong Kong then take a train to Guangzhou. It has always been cheaper for me in the long run.
-
After some discussion, and research, she still prefers to come pick me up.
Thanks to all for the information provided. Knowing how long the debarkation process will take is very helpful.

A taxi ride from the airport to the city is close to 200 rmb. About 125 rmb from the Guilin
airport. Those are the 2 cities I fly into because of my lady and business dealings.
It is also why I am quite partial to these 2 cities. I am very familiar with them from all the
flights and dealings I have had there.
Hi ChinaBound. You sound as if you are involved in a lot of business in China and make a lot of visits. How about a few pics of the lady you spend so much with and so much in visiting. That's if she will allow it of course. I am sure the folks on here would be interested in hearing more.
