Hi all. We all come from very different backgrounds. All from different walks of life. We come from different countries...sorry guys...not all of you are lucky enough to call yourselves Canadian.
I thought it would be fun to see what everyone does or did for a living. Don't feel obligated to tell us if you don't feel comfortable with this. I am just curious. We are all different, but have all come together because of a common goal.
I am a long haul truck driver. I am a team driver (two drivers in the truck...goes 24/7) who runs expedited freight between Toronto/Montreal to all points in western Canada.

I'm an electrician in a sawmill. Apprentice actually - I have one more stint in school before I become a journeyman. I had always wanted to go to school for electronics or something in that field but instead married and had kids. I went to work in the sawmill when my wife became pregnant and 3 years ago I won the bid for an apprenticeship.

Hi guys,
I am a retired geophysicist in the oil business. 22 years. Since then I went back to school to study religion. Over the past 15 years I have been a pastor, worship leader, courier, dispatcher, hr recruiter, and a lazy bum. Currently I drive a school bus for Middle and Elementary schools and own a used furniture store in a flea market.
I'm looking real hard at teaching English in China. Looks like a challenge and I need one right about now.
Mike, love the Mr. Diety videos. Maybe that is why I am looking for a new wife?

Hi all,
Sorry for my absence, been about 3 weeks since I've been to the site (and it looks like I missed a LOT.. yeesh O_O) . Life just got away from me, busy with work and keeping up relations. I'm an applications engineer for a startup in silicon valley, essentially in a glorified support role but I love it. I'm a young'un so my history doesn't go back so far, but I have my own rich history, coming from a "melting pot" family before Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt jumped on the bandwagon.
- I'm 1/2 filipino (birth mom is filipina), my birth dad was some kind of eurasian mix but no other information I have, name's not on the birth cert.
- I am 1.88 m tall
- I was adopted (along with my fraternal twin brother) by an American military family when I was 6 hours old, transported to the base hospital to keep me alive. was premature and weighed 3 lbs when born, you could hold me in one hand
- I have a German last name, fluently speak English and Spanish, and can read (but not speak much) broken french, portuguese, italian, and learning to speak/hear (but not read) mandarin at the moment
- My older brother was also adopted, 100% Japanese from Okinawa
- My sister was AA - African American, also adopted, and passed away a few years ago from cancer
- My younger brother is the biological son of my adoptive parents - kind of a miracle in itself. My adoptive mom had 3 miscarriages and was told she could not have kids, hence all the previous adoptions. Lo and behold, she popped out a li'l blonde, blue-eyed german/irish kiddo
- I'm pretty much an open book - I'm only 30 have experienced more than some people twice my age have gone through, so feel free to chat with me any time
-
I am a research scientist working for Pfizer. I do drug safety evaluations on newly discovered cancer compounds before they are used in human clinical trials. I am from the USA... though only the second generation born here. Both my sets of Grandparents immigrated here from Scotland. So Scottish Rob perhaps I am a distant cousin!:icon_cheesygrin:

My dad said I had to get an education, so I got my degree in engineering, bought an old VW split screen camper and left the country!
Picked grapes in France,Apples in Normandy,Worked at the Heineken brewery in Amsterdam, ran a coffee bar in Athens as well as working in the boatyards around the islands. Ditched the camper and got a job in an orange juice factory in Israel, deckhand on the Voice of Peace pirate radio station off the coast of Israel. Built my house in India and started my own biz exporting rugs from Nepal,India, Pakistan and Afganistan into the Uk. Just an excuse to wander about really, never made any real money but it funded some great trips, and a bicycle hire company in Rajasthan.Well it seemed a good idea at the time! Crewed oil tankers round the gulf for a few years. Moved on to S/E asia not much work done there! Volunteered to help organise the first elections in Cambodia after pol pot and taught English there too. Worked at a few refugee camps on the Burmese boarder and had a share in a guests house in Lao.
Kids slowed things down so I ran a sea food resturant on the south coast of england then became the general manager of a slot machine and video place for 12 years, it was only open 8 months of the year so a few trips could be squeezed in. Had to leave there before I started killing Teenagers. Build manager for a teak furniture company.Capacitor winder and a hundred bar and sweeping jobs in between. Now I'm doing maintenance work at a holiday park and getting ready to move to China in November. Occupation errr.....:icon_cheesygrin:
-
Wow Paul, sounds like you've fitted enough in there for several lifetimes!
-
Most impressive Paul. The life that a lot of us only dreamed about.

Not done yet, I'm only 50! :icon_cheesygrin:

JimB, every thing we do in life is important, it makes us who we are, if we did or didn't do some thing then we would be different people, we wouldn't be us :exclamation: , I think? :-/

Well I been impressed with what I have read here! What a group, I must say my hat is off to Alex for what he is doing. I am a farmer, row crops corn and soybeans. Been doing this since early high school. Along with this worked in factory operating printing press, worked in glass business, and most recently drove a truck over the road in the off seasons. Back to full time farming now. I will go one step farther my future plans, keep reading this site and become a computer wizz kid like you guys! Yeh Right I Wish

HI, Im a self employed bathroom fitter, carpentry, plumbing, ceramic tiling and electrical work, complete room from start to finish.
Sold accident insurace once, hated it. did some holiday rep work in Lanzarotte once, loved it, women like holiday reps, haha.
Its not what you do that defines you, its how you do it!
-
Agarn, Bathroom fitter, here it's called remodeling. I did the same (still do). Over 100 baths and over 50 kitchen remodeled. Also did anything else in homes and businesses, windows, doors, wood decks, siding, roofs not to mention whole houses. Wish I still had that energy I did then? :s
-
Vince, I wish i had the energy from 20 years back, i`d make a killing, these days its a late start and early finish.
Plenty of remodling in florida after nurricane season, haha
Which part do you live?
-
Fort Lauderdale. I've only done a few down here, majority of the work was in New York.
-
Vince, didnt think you were floridian, to smart! NY makes more sense.
Dont get me started.
-
Agarn, you must have been here. :-/ Florida is like the home base for all the con artist and scammers in the country. This is the reason they don't like New Yorkers here. We don't fall for their scams.
-
I think I have the least impressive job.....cleaner for a movie theatre hahahahaha....ahhh crap... I need to /wrist or something :-/ j/k of course. The future will get better after I'm together with my lady in Guangzhou :icon_biggrin:
-
Josh I worked security in a movie theatre for a short time. It's not fun but someone had to?
-
Yes Vince many times, mainly cocoa beach, port canaveral, never met so many empty heads, you just cant get anything done, pretty much a surfs up, lets go attitude.
I know its not good to generalise but a friend of my brothers there has a business there and employs around 20 staff, none of these workers are florida born, all are outsiders such as your self, he just will not employ them anymore, what does that tell you?
Is there a job you havnt done????
-
Yeah Agarn I understand. I have seen some winners here. I'm further south but the attitude is almost the same. It was just like Cocoa Bch and Daytona Bch here, but it has changed in recent years. They decided to make it a middle/ upper class family living instead of the past party, beach area. They put up condo's and very expensive places to live which now sit empty on every plot that was empty land? Even where I live they were pushing people out so they can clear the land for condo's. It's on hold now because nothings selling (people are moving away and less moving down). Dumb move on the Towns. They got greedy and lost.
I worked for a contractor a little north of here few years back. Cabinet Design and sales. I got a call from one of the installers one day. Saying he broke his finger nail off and had to leave the job? I said what did you do? Are you going to the hospital? (I thought he like ripped his whole nail off?) He said NO He "CHIPPED" his finger nail? I was stunned for maybe a minute....Couldn't believe what I just heard. I told him to go back to work or he's gone.
In NY surfing isn't a big thing? There are some, waves are avg. 4-5 feet so it's good to learn on. Down here? avg. is 1 foot? they think they are great surfers. I can't help laugh at these surfer dudes. Oh yeah another quick story speaking of surfers. When working designing cabinets, I went to some kid about 20 yrs old that wanted a new kitchen and Daddy was paying for it. OK who cares? The kid was a surfer and with getting to know him some I found out his father is the road manager for the Rolling Stones. Cool! lol
-
Vince, funny thing that, Ive been at cocoa beach at different times of the year and not seen decent surf, but they do have a 24 hour Ron Jons, lol
You know those condos you cant give away, well i own one, talk about a bloody mill stone around my neck. Im thinking insurance and petrol, haha
-
Vince, it's not so bad working as a cleaner at the movie theatre. My best friend is the supervisor. :icon_cheesygrin: So we sometimes sneak in DvDs and watch them on the big screens during the occasional night shift lol The last couple of movies I brought in were movies that were in the theatres not too long ago but we didn't get a chance to go see. Eagle Eye and Bangkok Dangerous. Both very entertaining if you're into the action movie genre. I highly recommend both to anyone. Bangkok Dangerous had some very attractive Thai ladies in it too if you're interested. :icon_wink:
-
Now now Josh you're spoken for son, lol.

Hey brotha, I can still admire another lady's beauty. (Look but don't touch) :icon_cheesygrin: Do you remember that lady you were going to try and get involved with? You sent me a picture a little while ago. This lady is in a black dress and black high heel shoes and her legs go on forever haha. I think you remember which lady I'm talking about... I recently sent Jessie some money. Yes, I sent her some money. Please don't badger me over it lol. I trust her. She's currently unemployed and she was down to her last 10 rmb for traveling expenses for interviews. I sent a lot more than she needed but for a purpose. I asked her to buy herself some sexy clothes and send me some new pictures. Anyway, back on subject, I recently sent that picture to Jessie because the shoes she bought look identical to the shoes the lady was wearing and I wanted to show her that haha. After receiving the picture, she told me the lady was very sexy and asked me if I thought she was sexy too. This is how I replied to the question:
Jessie11:25:38 PM
do you think she is sexy?
Jessie11:25:39 PM
wow
Joshua Smith11:25:59 PM
those shoes look similar to yours. haha
Joshua Smith11:29:31 PM
I was organizing some of my pictures and saw this photo....looked at the shoes and thought to myself that they looked a lot like yours that you just bought.
Jessie, I would be lying to you if I said I thought she wasn't sexy. And i don't lie to you. Of course I think she's sexy. But I'm not interested in her. You're the only lady for me, baby. I promise. I really hope you won't worry about what Rain told you about me coming to China and leaving you for a prettier girl. It won't happen. Rain only said that because she doesn't know me. You do know me. I won't ever leave you.
Joshua Smith11:31:37 PM
If you still have doubts about it...I'm not sure what else I can do or what else I can say to make you believe it. You'll just need to trust your boyfriend.
Jessie11:34:26 PM
i trust you.
