Obstacles for an Expat in Asia / Re: Farewell
« Last post by shaun on April 11, 2022, 12:01:52 pm »
My wife finally found You Yan's phone number.  She called.  I'm sure I am butchering the spelling of You Yan's name but she appears to be doing well.  She went back to work full time just to keep herself busy.  Apparently Willy knew the end was near and prepared her with all of the things she needed to know.  She is grateful for that.  I am working on getting an email address for her so that others can share their simpathy and encouraging words.  I'm sure they would help her some.

I wanted to visit him when I was there in 2019 but didn't.  Now I wish I had.  We did talk on the phone.

All of you already know this but Willy was a great guy.

Had a strange dream last night, where a few of us were logged into a kinda like zoom meeting. Rob had us seeing Willy' home page for this site with his profile pic and in a silent moment of reflection, we watched it being removed from this site as a final farewell. My most remembered post of his was when he mentioned the reason why he always had his shoes with tips highly polished. Almost like being a Kinsman, "Manners maketh man."

Anyways, I thought to share this dream from last night.

Sad to hear the news about Willy. I was fortunate enough to meet him in Zhongshan (with our wives) and in London (where we had lived for most of our lives). He certainly found the life he wanted in China with the person he wanted to be with.  You can't beat those Hunan girls. Rest in peace, Willy.

Location: Guangzhou, Guangdong Province

Event: The U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou has received a report that several individuals, including a uniformed security guard, verbally harassed and physically assaulted a U.S. citizen on March 14 at a temporary COVID testing center located at the Zhongshan Residential Community Center on Jinyang 1st Street in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou.

As local authorities strengthen testing requirements, and with the COVID situation remaining uncertain, the U.S. Consulate General advises U.S. citizens to remain aware of and comply with local COVID control measures and to consider going to established medical facilities for COVID testing and to exercise caution when testing at temporary facilities.

If you believe that you are experiencing discriminatory harassment or abuse by private or public institutions based on your nationality, race, religion, gender, and/or sexual identity, you may report it by calling the police by dialing 110.

If you choose to report, identify yourself as a U.S. citizen and ask for an English-speaking officer, if needed, then report the discriminatory harassment or abuse you are experiencing and ask them to respond.  Do not leave the scene unless you feel you are in danger, because police might not respond if the aggrieved person departs.  After reporting the incident, please contact the American Citizens Services Unit, using the contact information below, to inform us of the circumstances and resolution.  The U.S. Consulate General continues to track these incidents and bring them to the attention of the authorities as citizens request and circumstances warrant.

Obstacles for an Expat in Asia / Re: Farewell

Thanks for posting Jerry.  I had been trying to get in touch with him for a while now.  I'm saddened by this.  He was a good friend and wished I had stopped to visit him in December 2019.  I was recovering from an auto accident and movement was quite painful so it wasn't hard for my wife to talk me into staying home in Shaoguan.  Willy was a great guy and I will miss him.  I hope his wife is doing well.

It is with a heavy heart that I break the news that our long-time friend Willy has passed away.
Willy passed away on October 11, 2021, with his wife by his side.
Willy lived life to the fullest and was an inspiration to many of the men here that came seeking help and advice. I only ever met him once but I had many conversations with him and joked and traded cultural insights with him on this site and private communications.
I have missed his comment and remarks.
I hope you will join me in wishing him a well-deserved farewell.

"Still happy to be living in Goungdong Province and witnessing what is taking place here .

Willy"

Epilogue ... Patrick turned out to be a cheating weasel and the marriage fell apart because of him.
The good news is that Lisa moved on and is now with a really good man.

Ask An Experienced Member / Re: Single Chinese Girls looking for husbands.
« Last post by Pineau on March 15, 2022, 10:39:55 am »
I have a friend in Guangdong. She lives about an hour from Guangzhou.
She is 45 years old. She is divorced. Has 12 year old twin girls and a 6 year old son.
I have only spoken with her on wechat and have not met her in person.
She seems like a very nice person. She smiles and laughs a lot.
She is wanting to find a NON-Chinese husband.
Anyone interested in pursuing a friendship/pen-pal with her can add her as a friend on Wechat.
She is the lady in red in the group photo.
Email  me and I will share her contact information. vpatrol4@outlook.com

Come on guys! Are you shy? where's your sense of adventure? 200 people have read this post since I posted it and nobody has the nerve to strike up a conversation with a sweet  Chinese lady. Its easy. wechat has a built in translator. you can write in English and she will understand. You can translate her Chinese response in an instant. She don't bite. What's the worst that can happen?

If she doesn't peak your interest then there are a few other ladies I know and can put you in touch with.
