My wife's friend here in Toronto uses a phone service called "italkbb".

In short, this company transfers your existing telephone number from your current provider. On their system, you pay $ 25 per month [ similiar to your monthly bill ] but you get unlimited global long distance calls at no additional charge.

Apparently, US residents can get your "China" telephone number that Chinese residents can call you, in the USA, at no charge to them.

I signed up today so I'll update on how it works.

I have been using Italkbb for about 2 months now. it works great. You can also forward it to your cell to get the calls.

My lady can call whenever she wants and it goes to my cell phone. No problems with clarity and sounds like she is right next door!

So far so good. My wife connects with her family`s telephone line on the first try. Whereas using other companies, there are several tries and then static throughout the conversation. Like David wrote, the italkBB connection is very clear.

I joined during a promo, so it`s $ 8.99 per month ( for the first 4 mths, $ 24.99 per mth thereafter ) and unlimited LD.
