One for Canadians
« on: August 21, 2012, 07:18:00 am »
Myself and Scottish Rob are engaged in Heir Hunting.

We have a lady named Doris Crewdson born in 1909 in UK and who went t Canada and she died in 2009 age 100.  Her son Gordon died before her. However we do not know the ladies married name to write her out of the equation.

Any genealogist on this forum from NICE Canada who can assist?

Of course it was Vince. They are English stock. 8)

We thought that the mother may have married in Canada.

We are searching Shipping records at the moment.

There is a TV show that does this tracing with famous (actors/entertainers/sports) people called Who do you think you are? The tracing is done on camera so you get to see how to, where to go, etc. A good way of learning. Starting with ship records is a good start but you have to know about the age she went to Canada? Then you can check the English records and backtrack from there.

Having a Mormon uncle, I'll just jump to it. Ask a Mormon. The whole group is obsessed with geneology. I have to remember to get as much of Yuan's as possible before returning home.

The only place I know they have trouble looking, is within tribal records. That being native American Tribal records. If you ain't tribe, you ain't looking.

I have been involved in Genealogy for more than 20 years.  We chase the heirs of people who have died without leaving a will.   Less than a  third of people dying in the UK each year leave wills. So lots of business available.

In this case we know from a family member we traced that this one died in Canada 3 years ago at the age of 100 which ties in with her birth certificate. But she does not know her surname only knew her as Aunty Doris!

So I guess its back go the searching here for a marriage so we can follow to clear this one obstacle in this one.

I'm actually surprised it's only 1/3 of the population. They are doing better than most yanks in that respect. Ironically, before coming over on this trip. I was talking with one of dad's "friends" at a veterans service organization (VSO) office. They said that over 90% of US military vets have wills, or instructions tied to any possesions, insurance, etc. Whereas compared to the rest of the country, less than 1/3 do anything at all.

People wonder why Washington ensures they get their cut? b/c you leave it in probate and their want to get paid for doing so...

20+ years doing Geneology, that means either you love it, or you get paid well enough. Of course it could be both. I have a great deal of respect for anyone who is in that field. I know you can come across some interesting hurdles.

The Crown Jewels! I also saw Tutunkamans Tomb there and the Eiffel Tower - now just how did they get them out of France and Egypt?
