sharing about police reports
« on: August 21, 2009, 02:00:15 pm »
I was reading some old forums and came across this one so i will share my 2 cents on this. first of all i live in california and will be moving to china (guangzhou) to be with my wonderful lady. so what i am saying is this applies for everyone in usa if u think of doing this. to reside there when from the usa you need to
1-- be married
2-- live together (hahaha)
3-- have report on background

here i had to send to the doj (dept of justice)  they said it could take 2 to 8 weeks and yes u guessed it i started mine when i was almost 5 weeks from leaving  guess i am glad i didnt book my tickets. they did i lve scan of my fingerprints and sent to doj  so find someone who does live scans and start early   hahaha  u dont know how slow the govt is here.  after i get the report i will then leave for china and have all with me.  they run my prints and as long as your not arrested or they dont match on unsolved crimes your good to go . they are looking for felonies
and the only thing i have on my record and it will probably show up is i had a dui 30 years ago when i was young and dumb but that will not effect me. they are looking for  robbery assualt violence anything like that.  it will still be a process when i get to china but it will be all worth it when done. so i hope this will help if your thinking of residing in china and you have enough money to live untile you figure out what you want to do there. i plan on opening a retail store in the first year there. have a few ideas but i want to nose around first because i dont want to do what everyone else is doing   something unique.  well i hope this will help someone down the road who is thinking the same as me.
good day to everyone and i would like to hear from members living in china already maybe they could share some stories with me. my email is posted and if i could be of any help when living there please dont hesitate to ask

Could you detail the steps to apply for this from the DOJ?

Nik,
what i had to do was find a place that does   "live scan"    thats were they do your prints with a machine
and it is on a computer. they (who does the live scan) then sends it to the doj in the state that you reside at
then you are at the mercy of someone in our govt to pull the report on you and mail it to you at your place of
residence.  you would think it should only take a week or two but they tell you up front it will take anywere from 3 to 8 weeks
hope this helps. by the way it was 45.00 in california for this.

Maxx  no if your going to work there then you can apply for the residency thru the job. you see i am just going over to reside with my lady. she has 5 more years until she can retire and recieve a pension. so
i will love to live there for 5 years while she is finishing that.  i will live off my money when i get there. after that 30 days is up    NO IM JOKING
but i will live there and i hope to eventually start a retail business to keep me busy. only 53 so i am to young to retire and to broke  hahahaha
but i could also find a job teaching if i would like to do that and my residency visa will be intact when i apply for those jobs if i do. its just another way to or should i say procedure that you could do

Ted, does this apply to only US citizens? Getting a police report from the Irish government would be problematic to say the least!!
I'm planing to move there in the new year and have to start researching all this myself now too.
I think maybe a FAQ  section on the visa forum would be worthwhile once we figure out what's real and what's rumour.
Become the change you want today, or all your tomorrows will be like yesterday.

   Irishman,
Yes it is for usa citizens that want to move there and reside with their lady. you see im going there and not working but eventually would like to start a business. so it just applies for people who are going there to just live and not work.  already got my form back and i am ready to go next week.  hope this helps
