Here is an update.  The woman went home bandaged up. She came back today.  She had a broken pelvis.  She apparently "tripped" and went through a door.  The door did not hold and she went down the stairs with the door on top.  Broke her pelvis. This poor woman is going to end up dead and no one will do anything about it.  The surgeon is trying to help her, but he is running into dead ends every where he goes.  My wife is just sick about it.  I wish I could help her, but I am doing all I can for my wife and step-daughter.  Plus, of course the woman is not going to do anything.  She is too afraid.  Sad Sad story.

A man burns his wifes feet. Terrible as it was for the poor woman but does not something worst than that happened almost every day in our own so called civilised countries.

Lets just remember folks that is one story out of 1,500,000,000 million people, a quarter of the worlds population.   Just try and tell me that things worst than this have not taken place in your own countries.

Do the women know what they face in our own countries when they 'escape' to the freedom. The freedom of risking being robbed, raped and murdered is far greater in our countries than here and in some areas you just do not leave your homes after sunset.

Ok we have centres for women to go to, why, because there is a need for them.  And when do they go there - AFTER they have been beaten and abused and almost killed by so called civilised men in the western world.    Many do not survive to get to these places - because they are killed in their own homes.

The guy may go to jail in our countries - but does that remove the pain the lady has suffered for maybe years, of course it does not.  

I get fed up with reading random stories about China that get built up into 'that is why'.  

In the UK we made owning handguns illegal after a nutter went to a school a few years back and shot dead 16 five and six year old kids and a teacher.  

Hungerford in UK another nutter goes through a quiet market town shooting people dead with a rifle.

In other countries in the world people go on killing people with guns.  The lists can be found on the internet.  This week random drive by shooting in Washington.

So do not let anyone tell me that it is safer to live in our Western CIVILISED than here in China.

Unlike the western world People in China know what penalty they face if they break the law.  It is hard and fast.  No mamby pamby business here - that protects a lot of people here from crime.

it is right Willy  random violence here in China is a little rare but
domestic violence needs some work on as it continually happens
and as long as no one dies for the most part it goes unanswered.

the gangs you see here are the kids getting out of school to eat or
go home not like in the USA were they are trouble looking to happen

Even in my "civilised" and modern city of Perth, there are some places I will not go, especially on a friday night !!...when the lunatics are about filled with booze, drugs and hate.

Remarkable that we have these "no-go" areas and the Police cant do anything to fix it. I imagine many Bros have similar issues in their home towns.

I have only spent a total of 15 weeks in China , in 7 trips, but never did I feel any fear about strolling about anywhere at any time. I guess if I stayed there long enough, there would be places to find that may be dangerous.........I dont know.

I was always impressed by the basic safety of the place and the ever present Police, who seem to be everywhere but dont seem to be obtrusive if you get my drift.

You would cringe if you really knew the Stats. in the Western World for voilence to women within marriage or relationships...it is far more widespread and insidious than most of us realise. Most of these unfortunate women dont report it, or if they do, they keep going back to him and they get another dose of violence....strange but true.

Too many people consider China to be an archaic and primitive society when compared to our "enlightened" attitude to crime and punishment.....we prefer to beat criminals with a wet bus-ticket...China prefers to give them some real punishment for crime they commit.

We should learn some lessons from this.

with all the help at least in the states the domestic violence incidents
should be limited to one time if only the women were smart enough to
get out the first time. i know some of you will post all kinds of reasons
as to why but like i said there is a lot of help out there and it should be
used the first time it happens.  thats not a IM SORRY HONEY type incident
that should be allowed to happen nor even give them a second chance to do it
just how i feel about it and there is nothing that should stop them from getting
help

including --- the kids,i love him,wont do it again  ALL crap in my eyes

Domestic violence in China needs more than a little work on it, ...it needs a whole makeover!!!
Some of the stuff i've heard about, and seen myself, is horrendous!!

I personally can't handle seeing a grown man knocking buckets of shit out of a woman, and have on more than one occassion (maybe foolishly) jumped in and given the same treatment back to him... To the applaud i might add, of all the bystanders that were just standing there watching the spectacle!!

All i can say, at least in the Western world, there is recourse against such violence and personal injury, such as JimB described. Where there is little to none in most cases in China....
It's one thing to feel safe in Public in China, ...it's a completly other case to always be safe in the privacy of your own home in far too many cases in China!!!!

Well what bothers me is the fact that many woman who are mistreated and beaten, even though you put them in a shelter, or
provide counsling, or police action, tend to return right back to the husband (or wife) that was beating them in the first place.
I have often wondered about that, and have met many in my life that have been mistreated like that and worse, and when asked
why they want to return the same old silly answer comes up "because I love him".  Now that is plane stupid, but thats what
they think.  For the life of me I can't figure out why.  I know I would not love the persone who beat the crap out of me for no reason,
so why do they do it?  If any of you have an answer to this, please write it down, because it really confuses me. :huh:

Don the only reason I can think of is that long before the beatings start the husband tells her she is no good, worthless, in desperate need of his help and cannot do anything right.  I've seen it for many years.  The women are verbally abused into thinking they need him.

This poor woman cant walk the SAFE streets. she has a broken pelvis from her UNSAFE home.   Abuse is abuse doesnt matter where it happens.     We as a society are at least trying to do something about it unlike China at this time.  i know you like living there but that doesnt excuse this crap. This is just one story but it is not uncommon. Hell, no society is perfect.   You are right, in Beijing I dont worry about walking the streets anywhere at 2 AM, unlike Detroit, LA or New York.  But at least if she was assaulted in the street there would be a massive manhunt unlike it happening in the house by her husband where no one seems to care..  There is a lot wrong in the US and the UK so that makes it right to abuse your wife in China? I dont understand your reasoning.

Jim i am not sure on your last post who it was directed at but if it
was ME i was mearly saying that yes China is pretty safe to be in
but i DO NOT in anyway condon this behaviour. just that the govt
doesnt do anything about it unless there is a death in the incident.
thats a very bad thing and i hope that one day that will change as they
make the many changes they are doing. its to bad that your voice cant
be heard here to make changes as the way that it can happen in the states.

just this past week i saw 2 ladies on the subway who had black eyes and my
first instinct was to tell them to get out of that. just disgusts me when i see
that.
