I am shocked and dumbfounded.. While doing an online search for an old document of mine I ran across a website with tons of information about me.

The most disturbing of all was my personal account information at Amazon.com.  My wish list was Public. If you care to look you would have found a pump I was going to purchase for a home plumbing project and a book whose title I wont mention and did not care to share with the entire internet.

The web site in question is http://www.yasni.com I don't know how or why they managed to access my amazon account but they did. I never gave them permission. All I did was do a google search. and they somehow got enough information from my computer to find and read my amazon wish list.

All these websites are sharing information and they are not being very careful about it.  If they can get my amazon login information then what is preventing them from getting my paypal login too. You can sign into many of your accounts using the login information of some other unrelated account that you have. Have you been asked to sign into your hotmail or gmail account using your Facebook login credentials? What does that imply? did you just give hotmail permission to use your Facebook login?

Here is another example. Something interesting happened when I was looking for tourist attraction in Zhuhai. The website trip adviser grabbed my Facebook ID and used it to access all of my contacts back home. (without my permission) Asked me If I wanted to see where my facebook friends had been and what they were planning or browsing for their next trip. And the information was there at my fingertips all I had to do was look. I resisted the temptation. Id rather not see my 75 year old cousin planning a trip on a clothing optional cruse to Cozumel. Nor do I want my searching and browsing history public for everyone to look at

I guess if they can do this with your Facebook account they cant grab your contacts from Hotmail and you account balance from your bank. I did not know this was possible until now. And possibly if you have auto logon in some of your online accounts the information in you cookies could be used to log in for you. This is scary shit.  stay away from this website.

Eventually some underpaid computer tech is going to hack into all this valuable information and sells us all out.  Where are the internet police.

I  am very careful with what I put out on the net. I checked that site. They don't have anything really on me but they have a bunch on my Canadian cousin with the same name but nothing of a personal nature. I clean out the cookies and malware daily if not multiple times a day. An advantage of having a Mac. You can pick out cookies without deleting all. Good thing you caught this. Now you have to find how to get it off the list?

There are 5 pages about me on that website. Some are people that are not me but share the same name.

Amazon owned up to it in an email this morning.

Seems the default setting for your wish list is PUBLIC.

Gerry, I checked mine.  There was info on me but nothing critical except that it still has me married to my ex-wife.  I'm wondering if there is a way to update it to my current wife.  I'm sure that the American consulate doesn't look at that site but you never know.  Any ideas anyone?

The funny thing is on the Amazon part I was being told to update my wish list because someone was wanting to buy something for me.  Yea, right!!!

Also of note I was warned to be wary of anyone who used to live in McAlester, OK.  What is up with that?

Anyone in the UK this next two weeks?

Word of warning, tomorrow, my wife and I,  leave for two weeks in the London.  Going to meet up my sisters, maybe drop in for a cup of tea with the Queen, have tea at Simpson's in The Strand, a bit of Shopping around Harrods.  Maybe pop into the American Embassy in Grosvenor Square and tell then that I will try to fit in a spot in my calendar for whoever wins in November.

So if you do not want to risk meeting up with Willy and Mrs Willy then you have 24 hours to get out of town. Scotsmen excepted of course as one Scottish man in particular is making the arduous journey south to have an audience with us in London.
