I just watched it. It was really good. The fight scenes were mostly "believable" .

Speaking of the evil empire. I saw some of the aftermath in Dalian last fall. There is a prison there that was run by the Japanese. Its more like the Nazi death camps. It's hard to describe what went on there. We were not allowed to take photos in certain sections. The death room had a noose strung over a beam and it hung over a hole in the floor. On the next level down below the hole was a small barrel waiting to catch the body when it was cut loose. They have dug up a lot of bodies stuffed into half high barrels and buried in the courtyards. I saw it with my own eyes. I also saw grown men crying after viewing what was there.  I can't blame an entire race for the atrocities that took place during the war but I can certainly see why the Chinese have a hard time forgetting.

This is the only photo of the place I will share. Take a close look. Do you think it ironic that a device obviously devised for torture and suffering is fitted with a cushion for your head? Maybe it was placed there later.

Vince there was a Spaniard back in the 1700.He came to new Mexico.And inslaved the Indians.When they refused to work in his mine.Or in his fields.He would chop of part of there foot.And beat them and send them to the mines.The Indians Finlay rebelled and hacked this guy up into little pieces.

About ten years ago a bunch of Hispanics.Petitioned the government.To build a statue.Of this guy.After the statue was finished and put on display.Somebody came by.And hacked the foot off of the statue.So the police are called to investigate.While the investigation is going on.somebody destroy es the statue,Steals some of the parts.Of the statue.And throws the rest all over this little plaza they had set up for the statue.

The governor is outraged the latins.Are ready to go to war.The rest of NM is laughing at all of this.When reelection time came around.Nobody voted for the governor.He faded into obscurity.The statue was never rebuilt.And the latins never mentioned building another statue.

Pineau if you get a chance.There is a museum just off of Tinnamen square in Beijing.It is well worth the time to take a look. We spent a couple of hours there and didn't see half of it.They have a good display of what the Japanese did to the Chinese in WW 2 .They have some Japanese weapons.And a few uniforms.Along with some pictures of what went on.

Neil have you seen the movie the rape of Nanchang ? I was told that it is a well made film.That is a true depiction.Of what the Japanese Army did in Nanchang.If you have seen the movie tell me where you found it at.I'm real interested in watching it.

When Xia and I were in Beijing we went to a bookshop and it had an English section and I got a copy of a book called the Rape of Nanking, it was so enthrawling that I read it in about 4 days.  When I say enthrawling it was also appalling what people can do to each other just for fun, like having beheading contests between officers and then putting the results in the papers back in Japan.  When the war was over and they had some war trials for Japanese (another bug bear of mine and something the American Government has a little bit to answer for - but that is another issue) the two officers in question said they did not do anything, but when the newspapers were produced as evidence they were found guilty and hanged.  Just desserts.  But then again the Japanese have a lot to answer for during WW2 and until they can accept it and put it into their history maybe it will repeat.

I will get the name of the author and post it, I have lent the book to mum at the moment.

Nanjing fell in late 1937 and at that time China was allied with the Nazis. I think Germany switched sides in 1940. In my opinion Germany was aligned with whoever best woul protect their financial an industrial investments in Asia.

Where is a China Unicom office where I can get a sim card for my phone and a mobil broadband device to travel with?
 
I am in Baiyun  and using China Telecom. They suck. The connection drops out several time each hour. Some days I cant stay connected long enough to check my email and other messages, let alone read the news. Calls to the local office are met with apathy. Suggestions like turn off your router for 10 minutes and try again. I wish I had a dollar for every time I rebooted my router. The problem is not in the house. It is in the network and I cant get any kind of service over here to track down and fix the real problem.
My one year commitment is over soon ( I paid a year in advance) so I am looking for alternatives.  I know that China Telecom and Unicom are the only real providers. But occasionally I see signs posted on the door for ISPs (Greatwall broadband to name one) Anyone have any (good) experience with these other providers?

I have a program that monitors internet connectivity and logs the problem when it occurs. I am doing this so I can show the log to the ISP and they can't deny it. So I was looking for a local host to connect to so I know I am only using my ISP and the Guangzhou internet.  Guess what. The Chinese don't trust this network either.  The last three business servers I check were hosted someplace other that China. One in San Francisco, one in France and another in New Mexico. I finally found a couple on Chinese soil.

Man, I looked all over the site for this thread. Thought I would never find it!
Ok, i am trying to find a thread where someone (I think Jimmy) listed the time frame of getting a US Visa.  How long it takes between each step. I received the letter saying the paperwork had been sent to Guanzhou  (or however you spell it). This was last month (September).  So now waiting on her to receive the P3 papers.  Can someone direct me to the right post or can you just tell me the time frame?

Last night was a very long night. Horrible pain, fever, pain in my muscles. No sleep at all and hallucinations all night. It hurt to move. My fever was still 100.7 this morning.  I have been trying to figure this out and the only thing I can think of is I ate something rancid at the market yesterday. All I had to eat yesterday was a peanut butter sandwich and a piece of fried bread dough. Big mistake. I don't know what I was thinking. I know that the cooking oil is recycled here and sometimes is dipped from the sewer. I wonder what industrial waste I ingested.

My fever is down to 99.7 but I am dealing with the gastric aftermath.

Fair warning. Stay away from fried foods in small restaurants or street vendors. You don't know where the cooking oil came from.
