It's about time you lot went metric, like the rest of the world..... talking about being out of step!!   hahaha!!
I think, but not sure, that even Canada is using metric cable sizes!!
So what's the big deal with sticking to your antiquated AMG??

David....

They tried back in the Jimmy Carter days to go metric.  I think the people didn't accept it.  Plus your one to talk.  Wasn't England the last one to convert?  It hasn't been that long.

The only thing I do not like is that I keep two sets of tools in my shop.

Shaun,

Electrical wire /cable sizes went metric in the UK in the middle 70's, that's over 35+ years ago!!!
The point is that now, The whole world, except the USA, and it seems Canada too, ... is Metric...

As it happens, i've just been looking up the latest NEC tonight, and see that you are still using what we used to call ''Screw-it'' wire connectors everywhere. These things were banned in UK over 40 years ago, and probably longer in parts of Europe. I've had lots of experience of the NEC from working on overseas projects where the NEC was initially the projects electrical standard. It caused nothing but trouble. It's standards are out of date, vague in important areas, nitpicking in others. And sometimes completly incompatible with equipment and materials from countries outside of the USA....

Canada actually uses both.  Not sure about cables and wire, but we sell gas by the litre, food is sold at both by the pound and by the kg... height is given in both cm and feet, cans are ml...speed is in kph (although we do have mph on our cars)...distance is usually in km...

You can't flip just like that overnight, especially beside someone who is not using the same system and is bigger than you...

modern world? outdated? i think if you really got down to it each
and i mean each and every country has its good and bad points and
always will. its what makes the world a unique place. so its nice to
love your country but i would have to disagree with you that everything
is not perfect in each country

All the other countries use wierd voltages, except Canada and United States.  We use 110 and 220 volts and get along just fine.
So all you other countries MUST CONFORM or else....haha  :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:

Or else we will give your country financial aid from America and send our political carpet baggers to administer it.  YOU KNOW what will happen then.

As for connectors we use both now screw on and push in. Most newer services have the push in. Sorry but we Americans are stubborn and refuse to change to metric. Let all you others convert to our way. (just kidding I can feel Dave 5o's fingers itching for the keyboard).

Uh! I wonder if this red button works...  Oh damn!!!  :icon_cool:

I remember it was carter who tried to convert us to metric.back in the 70 nobody knew anythng about it so it didn't take. They tried to teach us a little in School. But it came and went real quick.I think now in schools they do teach the metric system a little more.

Maxx your right about they teach it now. A few years ago i had to take a test for school on a computer. Some of the questions were on metric. I jokingly expressed that I didn't learn the metric system when I went to school. I think I was older then the teachers. :-/

They converted here I believe late 60's. I still think of people by ther height and weight in feet and lbs. Short distance in Yards, but for car travel I think in metric.

Actually we do have the metric in some places. Some cars have a double indicator mph and km. Tools for metric screws and bolts and also allen wrenches. Soda bottle is in both liter & gallon, etc. Even the auto tires are metric now.
