Probably so David...but Ted is looking for something to do...

Ted,

Maybe you get yourself off to the marriage market and be a "broker" for Western Men...you have a potential list of many clients here on the Forum...could maybe make a good commission on the side :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:

DavidE,

They have these things in every city, and in several locations within that city...

I think there bullshitting about the 50,000 dollar pay-off though, That's for the very rich of China, and they wouldn't be seen dead at such a place. But it's real interesting to watch these gatherings, which are normally seen in the public parks and open spaces...
It also depends on the woman/man (child) if they are willing to marry the person the parents find at these places....

David....

US$50,000 was definitely the figure mentioned.....you surely are not telling me that TV Interviewers tell fibs are you ???????...next you will be telling me that there is no Santa Clause !!!!!!!!

Hahaha...David

DavidE,

I think, ...more like wishful thinking on the part of those old guys being interviewed, and the TV interviewer believing them or wanting to believe them!! ..haha!!

Hey, I saw that show.  He isn't kidding, as they stand on the walkways with pictures of their kids and work deals. Although I did not see any young people around, mostly old folks and family like moms trying to hawk off there kid to someone.  Did you see the part with the two older lady's sitting on the park bench making deals with each other over the kids?  Those kids have no say-so in this ether.  I would guess as the announcer put it, that they introduce the two and if the chem is just right all is good and more negotions take place about the wedding, how much etc. etc.
I think the announcer was saying that since China put the stops on having girls, that the boys had to look harder and there would be fewer marrages for a while now because of that.  So they are allowing more girls now.  I think there is a blog on here somewhere about that....:icon_cheesygrin

It's all Willy's fault there are fewer girls...:icon_cheesygrin: not to mention all you westerners who marry over there.  Your taking all the women...:icon_cheesygrin:

It was a sales pitch. Telling the interviewer how much makes him look rich then women seeing the show run down to meet him. Good move.

Ted,

Normally you'll find in the bigger parks and open areas of the city and normally of a weekend. There is not just one place, there all over the different areas of a city. Some of these parents even travel to another city, if they haven't had any luck in there own one....

Just look for gatherings in parks, and then look for parents carrying/showing blown-up photo's of the child they want married off. It can get real interesting at times, as sometimes negotiations can get, ...let's say, quite heated ..haha!!!!

Your probably right, in fact you said the same thing Lucy said about the 50,000. Her words who can pay this amount of money?? Then said, even RMB, this is still big money for majority of Chinese families....

One of my QQ friends who speaks quite good English , told me that there was 40,000 us$ awaiting the man who marries her , and she does not necessarily want to move from China , although it is an option , so yes there is a lot of money floating around , regards Ying and Robert .

Robert,

Easy to say 40,000 US dollars, far more difficult to come up with it!!! Unless of course she comes from a wealthy Family that is!!!

Ted,

I'm not up on the latest Dollar/RMB rate, so just how much is 40,000/50,000 Us Dollars these days???  All i do know, ....it's far outside your normal everyday Chinese families means to give away for a marriage....., hell, it's outside of a normal UK family means too, and i wouldn't mind betting outside of  typical US/Canadian family too....

Average Canadian income is around $30k to $50k per year.  That's a pretty hefty sum to have sitting in an account ready for some schmuck that wants to marry my daughter.
...as irresistible as chocolate
