Seeing that Chinese New Year is less than two weeks away, I thought I'd try to lighten things by posting links to some Chinese New Year music... Some of it is traditional, some of it is modernized.  I'll post one or two a day and hopefully have links that everyone can access... Hope you enjoy them...

I've watched most of the videos.  It seems the gesture of making a fist with your left hand, covering it with your right hand, keeping your elbows in and low and your hands high then shaking your hands has some kind of meaning, yes?

You're thanking them (at least in this case).  I remember there was some history to it, but I don't remember the details at the moment.

BTW, just in case anyone is interested, if you're visiting any chinese families who do celebrate Chinese New Year, remember to present them with a pair of oranges (mandarin oranges preferrably).

lots of events going on near and on the pearl river delta here in
guangzhou for the new year celebration so any members here that week
we should go with our ladies and check it out

Mandarin oranges are symbols of wealth (since they weren't cheap back then) and properity.  So you are giving them wealth.

bring some oranges      and i might say orange prices here in china
are going up each week so they will appreciate that  :icon_cheesygrin:

When you present the oranges, give them with both hands.  Depending on which city you're in, it might be acceptable to give it to them in a gift bag (mini-shopping bags).  Just don't give it to them with one hand (or worse yet, toss them)...has to be done respectfully and tastefully.

(not that you would do it otherwise, but just trying to cover my bases)

During the Spring Festival, there are thousands and thousands of little mandarin trees, complete with little fruits for sale everywhere. Everybody buys one and keeps it in the home for good luck during the festival...then they chuck them out into the rubbish !!

Maybe good idea to buy a little tree with fruits...shows you know a lot about the Spring festival :icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:

those trees are popping up all over Guangzhou for sale. they are all
about 4 ft tall. as is all the chinese new year materials for decorating
the house or a business
