Vince might not be to far off.  I use a wireless system at home.  Peggy had DSL and the person who installed it used my computer since Peggy didn't have one at that point.  They put in a phone number and I have not been able to find it to remove it.  Every now and the pop ups come up wanting to re-connect so I imagine in the background it is still looking.  I also used Ninja Cloak while I was there.

Guy's I'm really sorry I hijacked this thread for my problem.  Maybe one or two comments and my problem will be solved.  My computer problem that is.  :D

Then I'm guessing that person who used your computer installed something that tries to call home...  Ninja Cloak is usually harmless...but there are some people who will install what they want on someone's computer without asking for permission.

I would go through some of the steps (clearing the cache and then doing spyware scans) to see what those can find.  Spybot and Malwarebytes (with latest definitions) are my prime tools of choice to scan first.  Once those are cleared, I'd install a firewall to see what else is trying to get out of your computer.

When you get a dial home window, is there a chance you can capture a screen shot and PM me?  Then I might be able to come up with something for you.

I've run spybot a couple of times and Microsoft Security Essentials once.  I am trying to avoid CCleaner, I do have it and have used it in the past.  I know it will really clean things up but this new issue doesn't seem the same.  I know it happened in China.  I didn't notice it until after I took it out of Peggy's house.

It has to be something embedded in the ethernet protocol but I cant find it.

I am beginning to suspect QQ so I am deleting it then cleaning the system to see if things change.  I installed QQ while I was in China.

Computer stuff? Mike's reinstall of QQ reminded me of all I have to do. I am in the process of getting a Mac laptop (for travel) and be able to do things online as the desktop I have is to slow for mostly everything online. Runs fine, but videos are choppy, no webcam available, etc. I have a 22 inch monitor that I was planning on using with the laptop when home. I've been hoping for a Mac pro to fall off the back of a truck.  ;)  A little to expensive new.

I have boxes of electronics, Hard drives, wires for everything, I even still have floppy drives. I call it the just in case stuff. Recently upon getting the laptop I was having a electronic garbage guy come pick up everything.

Well yesterday the monitor stared losing it? It has like static lines across it and it's only 3 years old almost to the day. Bought it 7/26/2007.

I hooked up the old 17 inch monitor to make sure it wasn't the computer, it wasn't. So now it's like should I wait till later for another 22+ monitor? or get it now? I have to backup all the stuff to transfer to the laptop. I wrote down what I had the resolution at when I first set it up. Wrote it down before I switched the monitor yesterday, two different resolutions. And when I set it for either it's off (to big to small for the screen?) Computers are such fun aren't they? I guess I'll just hang in there for now. Can't do anything till next week anyway ($).

Not sure about down south, but up here, monitor prices are dropping... I have two 19" monitors hooked up (productivity issues)...the 4:3 ones (my preference).  Unfortunately if I want bigger, I'm going to have to go to the 16:9 monitors and I'm not too thrilled about that...but if you can hold on, you'll see more price drops...and remember...back to school season is coming soon.  Bargains to be had.

Yeah I've seen already the difference in prices. This one is a 22 inch widescreen, I paid $250. for it. A new one, same size with speakers built in (mine doesn't have) $170.

I have to call my brother. I think he may have a spare 22 inch? He got a larger one recent. He had the two monitors hooked also.
