400RMB per day is the going rate for a translator in Guangzhou per day in my experience so 1200 for three days doesn't seem to be excessive.

Great account of your trip Shaun, delighted to hear that it was so great. Maybe I'll meet you over there one day :) I'll wear a Hawaiian shirt too to mark the occasion!

My wifes best friend in Wuhan set us up with one for 3 days and paid her 2000 rmb, to be quite honest she wasnt worth it.  When I found out how much I had a fit also.  Because half the time she just talked to me and did not translate to the people.

i would venture to say how much time was spent by the lady translating
would determine the price paid. and always negotiate before hand here in
China to eliminate these kinds of issues and hard feelings

Thanks Guys.  I had a blast and I am very happy.

4 Some of you may recognize this as a sign in the bathroom at the Yu Feng Hotel in Guangzhou.  It is close to where our Ambassador lives.

What a trip.  Hope to get back in July.  It rained most of the time I was there but I really didn't care.  I was more interested in getting to know Peggy.

I briefly web cammed with Peggy this morning.  She was crying because she missed me.  I was crying because she was crying.
