Though these holes may not be cause by man they could very well be caused by man too.  For many years governments have tried to clean out sink holes and use for massive storage.  They always fail.  It would not surprise me to discover that is what was happening here.  You know like nuclear stockpiling.

No No No you are all wrong.  They are specially constructed by the Chinese.

The purpose of them is to bury the 'ego's' and 'misconceptions' that many foreigners come to China with.  That is why they are so large. ;D

My hometown also has a similar hole.
Too many horrible thing happen about the nature.
Here are the photos about my hometown Nanping Fujian,
The rain haven't stop for the past two weeks and will continue  the next week.
Due to it is moutain district, mudslide has take many lifes.
I have totally lost contact with my parents today because of the signal and power failure.
And the railway and highway to home all stop.
But I have talk with them last night ,only my mom's cell phone still have last power,
knowing that they are safe,I feel better, although my mom's 30 years old grocery store have been wash away.

Hi Yan,

The other guys are right.  In any disaster, the store can be replaced.  The people who work in it cannot.  I hope your parents and other relatives stay safe.

Hi Yan,

I too hope that everybody remains safe there. Just remember that material objects can be replaced. Better yet, think of it as an opportunity to make the store better when they rebuild. I looked at weather.com here and their forcast is for rain the next ten days, but the chance drops from 100% on monday to 60% for the remaining 8 days.

Yan, that is a very bad thing to happen.  I am assuming that the overflow was from the river as the pictures suggest.  I am sure
the store will be bigger and better than ever, when it dry's out.  I think perhaps it is the monsoon season there perhaps?  It will
start here very soon, in fact it is late and I am working very long hours to get my roof built and shingled (dryed in).  I am ever so
glad your family is alright.  I feel badly that they were the ones that got hit by the flooding waters.  I am sure as many of us here,
feel the same way.  If we were there, we would pitch in and help you clean up and rebuild.  I hope all goes alright and the rain
stops soon, everything dry's out and the sun shines agian for you and your family.
