Well it was a sitting on the fence subject if she meant by herself as in no partner? or some of the original story was false? Sometimes you read into it to much so I wanted to make sure I'm not.

It's just the translator writing 'Filler' material to keep content in the letters.

Sometimes a guy will ask something. He already knows the answer, but the reassurance is always good. And I have found when you are real busy with all kinds of stuff, having your friends double check things for you is always a big help. Help make sure you did it all. Forgetting something small is easy, and can stop an entire project.
