Canadian Food?..... Back Bacon, Maple Syrup, and would you believe it....Ginger Fried Beef! Ginger Fried Beef is from Beef country Alberta. And an other Canadian invention? " This cocktail was invented by bartender Walter Chell at the Owl's Nest Bar in the Calgary Inn in Calgary, Alberta in 1969"

Any of Bill Bryson's travel books are a good read with some cultural aspects from an Englishman living in America and married to an American.  He has written about a lot of western countries and has some humor as well.

I wonder, Chinese Knot, maybe a good Canadian book that also has a heavy debt to the people from your land that gave up their life's blood and sweat in its creation - The Last Spike " by Pierre Berton

cocktails?  Then who invented the cocktail napkin?

OK.  So, if yogurt has culture does that mean it goes to the opera?

Martin, if a Canadian falls in the forest does he make a sound?  Only if Bob and Ted hear about it or only if he hasn't been drinking beer.

Americans aren't the only ones that add to Western culture?    Really Martin, you had to go there?  But really I thought they were talking about meaningful contributions.  :o ;D

Yes now I feel better.  Just had to get it out of my system.

Interestingly enough napkin like serviette are both French in their origin. A tablecloth in French is a nap.

there is a supplier in Guangzhou for some fancy cocktail napkins  16 pieces to a pack and they are 2 cents
per pack.

minimum order is 1 million packs

so for home use that would be a lot of cocktail parties :) :o ???

What is Western Culture?  Is there such a thing?  The English Culture has been diminished greatly by the influx of too many immigrants both legal and non legal.   Even the European countries are suffering from this other than maybe Spain and Greece.

The USA has never really had a culture since the country was taken from the native inhabitants and it's present roots are from every country in the world.

Thanks Willy.  I think I'll hijack this thread in another direction as well.

A coworker was telling me how he thought we should send back all the Tamils that recently landed in Western Canada by boat.  According to him, all the immigrants should be sent home because they cost too much to integrate into society.  I mentioned to him that he is Italian.  We are all immigrants here in some form or other.  Canadian culture is very much an amalgamation of all cultures.

My brother married a Nigerian girl.  My coworker married a Korean girl.  I know an Italian man that married a Philippine girl.   My neighbors are Chinese.  We had a man living in my building who was half French and Half Belgian and spoke like a Californian surfer dude and was only here to ski and party.  There are more Australians in town during the winter than there are Canadians (it seems).

I disagree that immigrants diminish a culture.  I think they contribute to it's culture.  Well, they definitely change the culture, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
